Rushu42 she/her Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Well, here I am at last! 1,000 posts, after 2 years on the Shard. As per the time-honored tradition, I figured I might as well make it an AMA. So ask me anything! Points for creativity. I do reserve the right to refuse to answer something, but I don't really anticipate that being a problem - I'm willing to answer strange questions. 1
Chasmgoat he/him Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Is @Spock's Left ear better or is @Knight of Iron's left ear better? Is a goat more manly than a sheep? I assume you have read hitchhikers guide to the galaxy based on your name.... according to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, what alien race is this precise shade of blue?

I don't think I have the context to properly answer this question... but Spock the fictional character has pretty nice ears, I suppose. 2 minutes ago, Chasmgoat said: Is a goat more manly than a sheep? Well, it depends on the respective goat and sheep. As a general rule, perhaps? Sheep imagery commonly focuses on the ewes rather than the rams, from what I've seen, while goats can be either (both male and female goats have horns). 5 minutes ago, Chasmgoat said: according to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, what alien race is this precise shade of blue? Oh man, you've caught me - it's been years since I've read that book (although I obviously loved it when I did). Maybe I'm due for a reread. Is it the Hooloovoo? (I confess to internet research on that one).

If you're looking at traditional ideals of manliness, then I'd say yes. But really, I don't think that "manly" is well enough defined at this point.

But if I had to pick one, I'd say astronomy. I want to be an astrophysicist someday.

I actually considered choosing a profession-based on that. And besides that, I can be a nerd about space stuff. I love it. Edited January 24, 2021 by Aspiring Writer

I'm going to be honest, I don't know a ton of exoplanets off the top of my head. That question prompted some really cool reading, though, so thank you! I may have to go with HD 80606b, just because it's such an extreme planet. That orbit is wild. Honorary mention to PSR B1257+12 (or Lich) and its planets for being the first discovered orbiting a pulsar, though. 1
Bearer of all agonies he/him Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 What’s your favorite Sanderson book? What’s your favorite rep title ever?

AonEne he/him Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 What's your favorite candy? What's your favorite fairy tale?

Nice chocolate, ideally with around 70-75% cacao. 2 hours ago, AonEne said: What's your favorite fairy tale? This is a difficult question; I've never been a big fan of fairy tales in general, to be honest. Maybe the Emperor's New Clothes? I do have to say that I've always hated Cinderella; she's the least active protagonist I've ever seen. From my memory of the original story, the only action she takes on her own initiative is crying.

Agreed on all counts - to me, fairy tales are best when people reimagine them and build on top of the original idea.

Exactly! A well-known premise can lead to some really interesting trope reversal if done well. I remember really enjoying the book Ella Enchanted as a kid, which reimagined the Cinderella story but gave the protagonist a personality. And worldbuilding, too. (The movie adaptation was awful, though.)
mathiau he/him Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 (edited) More of a question for everyone else here than you, but am I the only one who's confuse whenever I read about Rushu in SA ever since I know you? Edited February 8, 2021 by mathiau

Sorry about that . . . . When I picked the username she was a very minor character - I didn't expect Sanderson to actually give her a role in the story.
