She, being Ladashwy, took notes. "Okay. That's good to know." She looked at some of the notes she had taken during earlier conversations. "What's a Spren? What does it do? How are you supposed to get to other worlds? On how many known worlds is there sapient life?" She forced herself to stop asking questions. She had too many to be asked all at once.

“A Cognitive entity, like me,” Kelsier answered, raising a hand and ticking off her questions one at a time. “They build cities, create civilizations and have children, like other Sapient beings. Non-sapient Spren are like animals.

”You get to other worlds by walking through the Cognitive Realm. Or by traveling through the physical space between stars.” If he couldn’t figure out the other way, Kelsier had every intention of attempting the latter. Eventually. When he had time.

“As to how many worlds have sapient life...” Kelsier smiled. “Well, that’s a secret I haven’t discovered yet. Dozens, most likely. Possibly even more. There’s only one in the Scadrian system, which seems to be typical. Roshar has three, which is less common, though one is only barely habitable. Sel, Nalthis, Taldain, Threnody, Obrodai, Vax...” He glanced up, to where the stars would be tonight, visible only to his left eye. They were far to distant for steel sight. “Far more than we’ll ever know, I’d guess.” He couldn’t quite keep the note of longing from his voice.

How could you travel through the stars? What about gravity? And there are that many other worlds?  "Wow." She said, awed.

Adilie startled in confusion, traveling through the space beteween stars? But there was no air there and the distances were insane! There was no way to survive physically going there, right? Maybe he meant... no that was far to weird of a way to say things... But still she had to know "Do you really mean physically being in the emptiness between stars or did you just do the weirdest description of Aon Tia ever?"

“The former,” Kelsier said. “I’ve been there, you know. It’s beautiful.” Not that he’d stayed long or gone very far. He’d been more curious than anything.

From above Scadrial looked like nothing so much as a blue and white ball, with tiny specks of light here and there where cities were. He’d watched the planet turn for hours before he’d finally let himself fall out of orbit. That part had been a lot of fun.

"Hi, Vaallal." Zola waved.

"Hello!" Val looks up from cleaning her gun to try and figure out who said that, "Call me Val please."

She messes with the trigger assembly for a second, then starts putting the rifle back together, "Do you think if I fired a bullet straigh up it would reach one of those other planets and hit someone?"

"I'm not an expert on all this stuff with other worlds, but I'm pretty sure gravity would come into effect long before the bullet exited the atmosphere." Ermin's shock had mostly worn away, but it was still strange to be talking to a Kandra. Life had gotten very strange, very quickly.

“Nope,” Kelsier smirked. “It wouldn’t have the force to get high enough to hit atmosphere. I could push it, but then it would melt on the way out. Even if it did get offworld, it would still need to break orbit. At that point momentum and lack of friction would keep it going until it did hit something, but it’s a three dimensional space. The other worlds aren’t directly above us. There’s also an asteroid belt in the way.

”And it takes a long time to travel that way. Millions of years. Our sun could very well die before that bullet hits anything.”

”You never answered me,” Kelsier noted, turning back to the lawman. “Why arrest someone if no crime has been committed?”

"Er... Basically there are people on Sel who can use ideograms of their languages to do magic, Tia mean travel so they can use it to teleport object or people, even from a planet to another."

Do we have to have a discussion on realmatic theory right now?

Nope. Depends on how the conversation goes.

“Then why are you looking for people to arrest? No crime was committed.”

"What do you mean? Meens and his men were massacred. Even if you think they deserved it, it's still a crime."

Adilie had an idea to solve toe problem

Hello Harmony, since the Survivor is the king of the South and the God of more than half of the population, doesn't he have some kind of diplomatic immunity?

“Not according to Spook’s laws.” Kelsier smirked. “Kid put in an act of gods exception to criminal law. Murders committed by any of Scadrial’s acknowledged deities or people acting under their direct orders are not crimes. Nor are thefts, cons, assaults, kidnappings, or anything else really.”

Quote

Spook: it’s either give you a permanent ‘get out of jail free’ card or starting a war by arresting you. So here’s the card.

Spook may have been slightly exasperated. He also knows Kelsier well enough to know that legalizing the Survivor’s criminal activities will do more toward discouraging them than anything else.

Ermin frowned. "Even if it's legal, it's still not right." Plus, the survivor wasn't really a deity. Sure, he was a mythical figure, but that didn't put him on the same level as Harmony.

"Well they had to be stopped." She said bluntly. "It's worse to let them keep murdering innocent people who are just trying to live their lives."

Spook actually specified “Harmony, The Survivor, and Ironeyes” in the law to avoid exactly that ambiguity. The point was to discourage Kelsier from committing crimes by taking away the challenge and to ensure no one in the future would be stupid enough to actually put the Survivor on trial. It also protected the Kandra and Marsh, which he’d wanted to do anyway.

Kelsier shrugged. “Pretty sure part of being alive is deciding what’s right. From my perspective what Marie and I did was completely right.”

”Is legal in South, too,” Eryn noted. “And Sovereign king of South. Not like much if maskless ones arrest him here, ja?”

Adilie cocked an eyebrow "What's not right is the fact you hadn't already taken care about it" She normally wasn't in favour of vigilantism, but they were in the Roughs so even the official lawkeepers were kind of vigilantes.

“That reminds me.” Kelsier took out a Coppermind and handed it to Eryn. “Meens was taught by a hemalurgist. The memories are in here.” He tapped the medallion, making it sway. “You have one for me?”

Eryn nodded, removing her Coppermind and handing it to the Sovereign. “Have the spikes also.” She waited patiently as her master tapped, stored and compounded the memories before returning the metalmind to her. She tapped it eagerly, glad to have her memories back.

Eryn sighed exasperatedly. “Likes to startle people,” she explained. “Thinks is funny.”

"It is funny!"
