"That is entirely possible. I think one of them got shot at some point." She's not looking at anyone at this point, her attention on the disassembled gun in her lap, "Deflected it into my lungs. That was not a good day."

"That sounds painful." Ladashwy said with a wince.

“I can sympathize,” Kelsier said. “Not that I remember it particularly well, but apparently I was stabbed through the chest once.”

He didn’t remember it at all actually. He’d been rather startled to discover the fact after he’d begun paying attention to the new religion that had formed around him.

Not that he hadn’t been perfectly happy to embrace the spear imagery as his personal symbol.

She looked at him. "That doesn't exactly seem like something you would want to remember..." I know I wouldn't.

He shrugged. “You’d be amazed how often I’ve been asked about it. Might be nice to have an actual answer.” He chuckled suddenly. “You should have seen Spook’s face when I asked what the spear was all about.”image.thumb.jpg.5d7dcda751e9339ab48cfc6f20d27f6b.jpg

"That does seem fairly irritating." she said thoughtfully.

“Occasionally,” Kelsier admitted. “More often amusing. I really don’t remember much between getting my skull crushed and tripping over my corpse in the Cognitive Realm, but that generally isn’t what my followers want to hear.” He grinned brightly. “Of course, the next thing I did was a punch a god, so that makes up for it a bit.”

"Wait... You did what now?" She was thoroughly baffled at this point, and it showed on her face. Did I hear that wrong?

I stopped reading around the end of page 85.

"Hi, Vaallal." Zola waved.

Kelsier grinned. “I punched Preservation in the face. What else do you do when you meet your god?”

”Give chocolate?” Eryn suggested dryly. “Works on you.”

Kelsier threatened Val until she kind-of acknowledged him as a threat to her well being. Then he started being nice again. Chaotic neutral at its best... (What? I keep saying he does what he wants, not what I want him to do!)

“Sure you do,” Kelsier replied grinning. “True, fainting doesn’t have quite the same flair, but it definitely works as humor.”

”Stole my chocolate,” Eryn said dryly. “Chased him. Sat down hard when he took off mask.”

"I was literally barely awake at that point." She grumbled under her breath. "And I had just learned about Hemalurgy. And the assassin had just tried to kill me." She was still grumbling. It wasn't my fault! I normally would have handled that better. I didn't have the mental capacity at the time to process that information.

Kelsier smiled. “I’m not blaming you, Sage. Probably a good thing you didn’t punch me. I doubt I’d have taken it quite as well as Fuzz.”

Eryn sighed exasperatedly. “Likes to startle people,” she explained. “Thinks is funny.”

"Who's Fuzz?" She paused. "Also, I don't think there would have been any possible scenario where I would have ended up punching you." She pointed out.

Ladashwy has started letting her guard down. Yay! She can show her actual personality!

That was the idea. Kelsier wants her to be more at ease.

“Don’t underestimate yourself,” Kelsier said firmly. “You’re as capable as you believe you can be.”

Eryn nodded in silent agreement.

"Uh, okay then. What is the Cognitive Realm, and what the rusts has been happening in it that I don't know about." This was thoroughly confusing her.

“Going right for the big existential questions, I see,” Kelsier said smiling. “Good! That’s how you learn.”

”Other realm,” Eryn explained. “Land of mist lay over all.”

“The land of the mind,” Kelsier nodded. “And of concepts and ideas.”

Kelsier laughed quietly in her mind. Do you really think I’d risk opening myself to Sazed’s well-intentioned control?

Point taken. Adilie started storing her Connection to him so he couldn't hear what she was thinking. She should have seen it coming, didn't Eryn say her additional powers were not from Hemalurgy? Maybe she should ask her latter, she'd probably not answer though

"Right now if I met a God my reaction would probably be GOD BEYOND NOT A THIRD."

Adilie often forgotten that most people in Scadrial didn't know about the four Realms, of course that would confuse Ladashwi. "So, everything exist in three Realms, the Physical Realm which I think you've already heard about, the Spiritual Realm -where your soul is- who is just plain weird, apparently things there are perfected but also everything is at in the same point which seems contradictory but somehow is not. Finally there's the Cognitive Realm, where your Mind is, it's... weird to but less, the places where the ground should be solid are exchanged with the ones where water should be, on Scadrial everything emit Mist or is Mist but it's unique to our planet, Roshar for example you just have the Cognitive oceans made of glass-like beads while the solid parts look like obsidian. There's a fourth Realm in which no part of our bodies currently are, the Beyond, the Afterlife."

Technically, he’s hijacking her Connection that she just strengthened.

She hadn't strengthened it enough that they could communicate without words, that would not have been very smart

He’s been keeping his Connections to everyone strengthened slightly. He does this with everyone around him as he finds it makes him more empathetic. So when she strengthened her Connection it pushed things enough that he could talk to her. The threshold is lower for stronger Connections.

“Or you could go for a more technical explanation,” Kelsier said, acknowledging Adilie. “Though the Spiritweb is not exactly the Soul, assuming you believe in the concept of an immortal self. Which is not a requirement for working with me,” he added, “nor is believing in the Beyond.”

He looked thoughtfully at Adillie. “Distance doesn’t really exist in the Spiritual. Time does, but it’s... complicated. The Spiritual realm is the realm of Connection and our Spiritwebs are exactly that: giant webs of Connection tying us to everyone and everything and everyplace in our lives. The ties to our past are there too, and there are ties to our possible futures.”

A mournful expression briefly crossed his face. “You’re Connected to everything and everything is Connected to you. You ARE everything. Even when it’s gone, the echoes of those Connections remain, a memory of a memory of what it was like when you were.”

She, being Ladashwy, took notes. "Okay. That's good to know." She looked at some of the notes she had taken during earlier conversations. "What's a Spren? What does it do? How are you supposed to get to other worlds? On how many known worlds is there sapient life?" She forced herself to stop asking questions. She had too many to be asked all at once.

"Sprens are being that have a Spirit and a Spirit Web but no Body. They do a lot of different things depending on the planet, for exemple on Roshar they influence the fundamental laws of nature. To go to other worlds you first need to go in the Cognitive Realm by using something known as a Perpendicularity, the Well of Ascension is one, then well, remember when I said the Cognitive Realm was weird? Well there planets are flat instead of round and if you walk beyond the limit of the map you end up on another planet. As for hte number of planet well, er..." She hesitantly turned toward the Survivor "I don't remember all my grandmother told me but I think... At least seven?"

"Huh." She wrote that down. I guess that answers my questions for now...
