Twice steelran up to the group. "Hey there. Might be an assassin or something of the like coming here pretty soon. Or I could be wrong. But Meens doesn't like you very much. I hear about a fire? Sad I didn't start it. I don't know if you wanted me here. Regardless, I am."

At the blur of steel, Marie jerked back, making a noise halfway between a growl and a squeak. Recovering her composure, she said, "I'll start one with you some other time. Why are you here?"

"I owe that rusting jerk a punch in the face!" she said angrily.

"I'll see to it that he recieves that," Twice said with a wink.

"Oh, the gunshot. Figured it had to do with you guys, and I was just itching to shoot somebody. No one you know's dead, then? Sad. But by my best guess, sticking around you guys is my best chance to shoot someone before the night's out."

Glancing at the door, she started coughing into her fist to hide laughter. "I wouldn't say that..." She said it while trying to keep a straight face. She kind of failed. "I guess it depends on your definition of 'dead'."

"Well how dead exactly is this person?" asked Twice, now curious.

"Only mostly dead," said Marie, amused.

And mostly dead is still slightly alive!

Ladashwy laughed for a minute. "Well, this person died years ago. But I talked to said person today."

"Well now I feel like you're making fun of me. Clearly, this situation needs to be reversed. I guess you've got a friend who died, and then came back. Kind of. I might like to meet a fellow like that, get them to tell me the secret."

"I'd say he died and was replaced by a copy who think itself as the original. But most importantly where is the fire and who go tell the innkeeper?"

Her eyes flicked to the door for a second. She tried to keep herself from grinning, but it was hard.

"'Friend' is debatable," Marie muttered.

"He is my Employer." She said with a grin. "And don't ask me how it works, because I don't know."

Marie edged forward. "I am as well." It had been some time since she'd watched a human structure burn. The last had been...mmm, five years ago? She'd viewed a burglary from afar.

"Well, I'll figure out who exactly this guy is sometime later, then. I am interested in how far that fire's gotten, though."

"Yeah... We should probably spread out and look for the location of the fire or something."

Kelsier has been burning it the entire time. I’ve been waiting for you to show the guy setting the inn on fire.

Kelsier abruptly stiffened as his tin enhanced ears caught the sound of a bullet. A moment later Ene soared threw the window. “You saw it?” He asked.

”No,” the Seon said, “but it came from below.”

”Follow them,” he ordered. Ene bobbed in mimicry of a nod, then soared off.

He nodded. “Ganache,” he said, speaking in her own language to avoid upsetting Zola further, “there’s smoke in the building. I’ll go take care of it, but be ready in case you need to leave.”

Eryn nodded, abruptly alert. “I will be.” She turned to Zola. “Do not be afraid, child. Sovereign take care of fire. Drink chocolate, now.”

The Survivor smiled before leaping out the window. “Good.”

Then he burnt steel, landing lightly on the ground below. He switched to tapping, racing through the inn faster than the eye could see. He used his steelsight to find the hidden cellar, the one that shouldn’t have been in this building. Smugglers, he thought in amusement.

He burnt Bendalloy, slid the hidden door open, and entered the basement, shutting the door firmly behind him.

The fire was burning nicely he noted, as he entered the cellar, consuming the body of a man he assumed to be the arsonist. Fortunately, there were ways to put out fires and this cellar wasn’t essential for the building’s stability. Oh, and Scadrian soil had a lot of trace metals in it.

He flaired pewter and tapped iron and Pulled,  mist swirling up around him before dissolving in the heat of the fire. The walls buckled, then collapsed under the wait of the soil. The fire abruptly went out as it was smothered beneath the dirt.

Kelsier grumbled under his breath as he Pushed the dirt away from him and off him in a wide circle. He kicked out a few flames that had managed to avoid the initial smothering, then Pushed most of the dirt back behind where the walls had been.

Then he went looking for Ene. Zola had been in this building, along with many of his innocent followers. Well, relatively innocent. Either way, whoever this Meens was he was going to pay.

Kelsier smiled and there was nothing joyous about it at all.

And this is what was going on while you guys were panicking. Also why trying to set fire to an inn with a Fullborn in it is an exercise in futility.

Yes. Like I said, an exercise in futility. Now, where is the guy who shot  the arsonist? Edit: he can’t be far because Kelsier put out the fire in under a minute.

Well we can't let Kell have all the fun!

Marie started heading down the stairs when she heard the ground crumbling. A few feet from the door, she abruptly stopped moving. Annoyance crinkled her brow for a second, then she turned again and yelled up, "The front door's wide open..."
