For once, Snowy was silent. Not even a peep. It felt wrong not to estatically bounce around.

But not as wrong as... those things.

Phaedrus wrapped herself tighter around everyone, holding them close. She slowed her breathing, trying to contain her panic.

Then, two black figures swooped up the mountainside.

Tangerine looked up, squinting.

They circled overhead a few times, the same raw screech sounding again. The figures slowed, then descended, landing on the mountaintop. They looked like massive ravens, as large as a teenage dragon.

On their backs, however, were four more black figures; two apiece. These black figures stood on two legs, and seemed to be made of black metal.

Ollie whimpered, shying back. "Phaedrus, you said that the Ironclads were a myth!"

Snowy still was uncharacteristically quiet. He didn't know what Ironclads were, but they sounded not very friendly. Maybe even a little mean. Snowy didn't look up from the snow, and kept himself buried. Phaedrus would protect him. Phaedrus was a dragon, they were good at that kind of thing.

Emi looked over and spotted Wind sitting on the tree. As soon as they made eye contact she yelled. “WIND I SEE YOU!”

Phaedrus's eyes went wide when she heard the scream.

"Everyone, get over here!" Her voice was panicked. "Now!"

"Stay close. All of you."

Ollie huddled by Phaedrus, stroking one of the baby dragons to soothe herself.

The screech could be heard again, this time much closer.

"EMI!" Ollie called. "Emi, get over here!"

“What happened?” Asked Emi and then she saw the creatures. Her ears flopped and her eyes opened wider. She wanted to move, but her legs were paralyzed. “WHA- WHAT IS THAT?” Small kippy asked with pure fear.

"Emi!" Ollie looked around, scared, then ran over to her friend.

Phaedrus growled at the ironclads. "Your war does not extend to here. Leave us be."

One of the ironclads looked around, seeming amused by the terrified kippies. "Now why would I do that?"

"I will headbutt you!" Chasm leaps to the front of the group and sees the ironclads looming overhim
"eek" he jumps back into the group and tries to hide

Pia stared, terrified, at the Ironclads. They weren't supposed to be this far, it was supposed to be safe up here! If it wasn't safe here... was it safe anywhere?

"Shh! Phaedrus will keep us safe."

The Ironclads' leader stepped forward. "Alright, boys... you know what to do."

They all unsheathed their weapons.

Snowy's curiosity finally won over. He poked his head up to look at these 'Ironclads'.

And immediately dug himself in the snow again. I shouldn't have looked, I shouldn't have looked... what if I never get food again?

Pia's back arched, her fur puffed out, her ears lowered, and she began to tremble. It was so hard to keep from running away!

Combining things that cats and dogs do when they're scared. :) Did you know that cats also purr when they're scared? So if they're purring, they're either happy or scared.
