Did anyone read magic tree house?

YES! They were honestly probably the books that gave me my love of reading. And the fact that they used books to travel through history and the world... I was (and still am) so fascinated with that concept. I use books to travel out of my world.

What were your guys's favorite books in elementary school? Mine were Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Septimus Heap, Fablehaven, and The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel. (This was a genuine list I had, by the way.)

Percy Jackson, Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, The Hobbit (I didn't get into LOTR until later in life though), Epic Order of the Seven, and Narnia.

Not a complete list, but just the ones I can think up off the top of my head.

(Trying to keep the conversation going, because this is great...)

What Sanderson character do you guys find is the most similar to you? I'd personally have to say I'm a weird combination of Elend and Shallan. (Edit- Elend in tFE and sort of in tWoA.)

*realizes how awkward that was*

*is glad to have a place to post stuff like this where everyone else is in the same boat*

Well, the first appearance of Elend actually resembled a scene I intended to write with a character based on me. I can't really say more than that, and it definitely doesn't mean I'm very much like Elend.

I'm Renarin when I'm at a social gathering or around people I don't know, but when I'm around people I know well I'm a weird mix of Lightsong and Syl. So basically at school and parties I'm incredibly awkward, but around friends and family I'm pretty compassionate and have a weird/witty sense of humor.

Shallan and Elend are definitely two characters I relate to, especially Shallan. My personalities don't manifest in quite the same way as hers, but they are still different personalities for different situations and needs. A couple of them have names, but they are mostly just coping mechanisms for being in awkward situations I don't feel like can handle (which is pretty much any situation that isn't sitting in my room reading or doing art, if I'm being totally honest)

Elend at the parties is me at parties. Bring a book and hide in the corner.

And then add to that Vivenna, for reasons.

But mostly Shallan. I relate to her on a level that might be unhealthy.

Welcome, xino!

Hmm, maybe we should make a list of people who've joined.

I'm going to be busy for the rest of the day, but if that's something you'd like to do, I can put it on the first post.

I guess we'll have to do it some other time, then!

Yep, and when we do it'll be good.

Should I change the name to the Socially Awkward Bookworms Club? Or guild? Or clan? Or leave it as is?

I think the Socially Awkward Bookworms Guild sounds neat.

Although, acording to the google definition of guild, we are not a medieval association of craftsmen or merchants, often having considerable power. But we do align with the second definition in a way. An association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

I mean, anything works for me.

That's very helpful for me, you know. :P

I do need to go now, though.

Er, yep. Another socially awkward bookworm here.

People are scary and my brain likes panicking. Mostly with people where there's an expectation for me to get along with them. People who I will never see or interact with again, I've found that I'm more likely to be unintentionally overly-cocky(?). Which is weird. Because normal I'm qualifying my every statement and planting in statements in case I need to backtrack.

I relate with Jasnah and Steris. Jasnah is, of course, infinitely more intelligent and capable, but a girl can dream to be that cool. Steris takes in stride pretty much anything without sticking out so much. She's just...calm. Guess these weren't really necessarily similarities, rather aspirations. Oops. ^_^ Maybe I can claim some combination of a much younger Jasnah-Steris?

I like socially awkward bookworms. Period. But, whatever works for you.
Im also Elend at parties. Except that I’ve never been to a party. But I would be Elend.

wish I could be Elend at parties. Unfortunately they’re always too loud or too dark for me to read properly, and there’s never anywhere good to run off and escape. It’s mostly fine though, since I don’t really get invited to them anyway :P

I relate to Kaladin a bit.  It's the older sibling instincts.  And I relate to Elend (because books), and Steris.

What about other author's works?  Who do y'all relate to from those?

Being around people in general makes it too loud to do anything...

I've never been to what would qualify as an actual party, though, so...

I can't read/write/do homework if there is people noise or music, but I'm just fine with the random noises my bird makes. It can be a little distracting if he starts going crazy, but other than that, I can generally tune it out really well.

In Mistborn, though, I think the parties would be far quieter than most modern ones. The music would likely be instrumental, and the talking probably wouldn't get too loud. In fact, I think Elend's balcony would be the perfect reading spot. If only it actually existed.

I remember reading Kingkiller Chronicle and relating to Auri. She's kind of a strange character to relate to because she's honestly really weird, but there's certain aspects of her character that remind me of myself.

I know this is a manga, but I also relate to L from Death Note. It's actually for the most stupid reasons ever. I too eat unhealthy amounts of candy, get way too little sleep, wear the same outfits all the time, and hate socks. I identify with this dude so much and I seriously wish I was joking.

What I've learned right now from typing this out is that I am a complete weirdo. I'm concerned now.

I’ve never been to one of those massive parties like you see in movies with all the drinking and dancing and people everywhere, but the ones I have been to were still... not great, so you’re not missing out.

The only parties I like are the ones where up to ten people get together to play board games. Other parties, I'm just in it for the food. :P
