Jasnah and Wit?!?!

In chapter 17 Navani implies that there are rumors about Jasnah and Wit being together. Thoughts? This is one ship I hadn’t seen before.

I think it's natural such rumors would exist given how much time they likely spend together. Add to it that we as readers have a perfectly good explanation of what they're really doing (talking about Serious Things) and it's an obvious wink to the readers through a less informed narrator. Same as Adolin and Shallan wondering what Nalthis and Scadrial are without ever getting even close.

This came up in the in the chapter discussion too. I'll summarize some theories / what people want to be true. They basically run the whole gambit of possibility.

1. It's totally true, and canon.
2. They're Friends with Benefits 
3. They're just talking Cosmere stuff, and Jasnah is letting the rumors go in order to dissuade anyone else from trying to court her
4. They're just talking Cosmere stuff, and they don't care about the rumors

I think we all like to believe they are sitting and discussing Cosmere related information. M

but in my head they are sitting in rooms together coming up with hilarious insults for the high princes

I'd go with 3 and 4. I don't see Hoid being interested in anyone under 5000.

I think it's totally a scholarly thing. She's a historian and he's been alive for thousands of years. His info is way better than anything the heralds are giving her. That's not to say they can't develop a friendship, but I have a hard time seeing him become close with anyone

Definitely not 2, Jasnah is asexual, implied in work and confirmed by WoB. 2 would really only be of active benefit to Hoid.

Yep, we know that now, but I don't think we did at the time of my post. I know Brandon posted about it prior to the actual release of the book, but I think there was a period of time that all we knew about were that there were rumors. I was definitely in the #3 camp at the time.

Honestly, were it not for the annotation by Brandon, I would have bought that Wit and Jasnah were friends with benefits after reading chapter 99. It's probably just because we don't get a lot of chapters from Jasnah's viewpoint, but the way their relationship was written felt very casual.
