"You will," Ellis said, sheathing his sword. "One day."

"It's been years, Ellis," she said, standing from her stance. "I don't think I'll be able to tell the story. Not for a long, long time."

"Hey," he said, taking a step towards her. He put his arm around her. "I believe in you."

She still tensed while she was being touched. Her blade evaporated into smoke, trailing away in the wind. "Just because you believe in me does not mean that I'll be able to tell, let alone heal," she said softly, turning away.

"Doesn't mean that you won't either, though."

"Yeah, but it doesn't mean that I will," she said with a hint of stubbornness. "I don't think I'll ever be able to heal."

"I think you can." Ellis said. "If you try to heal."

"I've tried. Ko'ad forbid, I've tried my best to heal. It only ended with more pain and scars and a solid reminder of what my past is."

"Maybe you just weren't doing it right."

An empty chuckle escaped her lips. "I've tried just about everything. No matter where I go, people are the same," she said, her hand slowly making a fist. "They only 'need' you when they want something that only you can get. They'll stop at nothing to get that. I try to heal, but it ends up with me being more scarred than before."

Ellis looked down. "You've given up... haven't you?"

She gave that empty chuckle again. "I'm at that point," she admitted. "Many times in the day, I ask myself why haven't I ended myself, why I didn't pull the trigger on myself long ago..."

Q looked up at the rain, her sopping hair dripping onto her soaked clothes. "Maybe it's because I'm too exhausted with life to not end it, maybe it's because I'm stubborn, but it's because I hold onto the foolish hope that the days will be better. That all my scars will finally go away... But you can see where that's gotten me."

"I think it's because you can heal. You can't change the past, but you can keep going with the present. Even just the choice to keep going is enough to help you take another step."

He looked down, blushing. "And... well, I think it's because... maybe we were meant to meet one day."

Q looked at him, her eyes pitch black. She cocked her head at him. "You really do have something for her," she commented softly, her voice a bit distorted.

She shook her head, her normal color returning to her eyes. "You still believe that we're destined to meet? That fate led us together?" A small smile appeared on her face. "You're holding onto that more than I am to the hope that things will get better."

"All I know is that I met you and life instantly dialed up to eleven."

"Me too."

She seemed to smile at that false hope that she gave him. Of course, she wasn't sure if her life had gotten better when he showed up, perhaps a bit more complicated. As if it wasn't already so before.

Q shook her head slightly, looking back at him. "That enough practice in the rain for you?" she asked.

"You sure? You could use the practice, no offense."

"With what? Just sword-ing in general?"

"That," she said, rolling her eyes, "and also just practicing in different types of weather than what you're used to. A fight can come from anywhere and can come at anytime, no matter if it be raining or snowing."

"That's the problem. I have no clue what I'm used to or not."

Ellis drew his sword.

"Hmm, yes." She reached out to the side, her blade falling into her hand without a sound. "Is there anything in specific you would like to practice?"
