"Of course, 'Peregrino,'" she said, giving him a genuine smile. Q snatched the tent, nodding her thanks. "Some other time, then."

She turned to Ellis, making her way to the exit, her smile faded. "If you've paid for your tent, let's go. I'm sure that your friends are waiting for you."

@Channelknight Fadran Even tho I'm reasonably sure that he won't be here till Tuesday. So, this notification will get lost in the most likely mess of notifications when he gets back. •3•

"Huh. That seems overly complicated. What else is in there?"

Gerald shook the arm, but nothing else seemed to come out.

"Strange," he said. "I'm sure he put more stuff than this into his arm... Oh, well. Maybe it'll shake out later. We wouldn't want to use up all the interestingness now, would we?"

"Maybe it'll only come out for him! Or it'll come out when we need it most. Or right after. It'd be like our luck."

"Maybe one of these things is what we need most right now," said Gerald, picking up the anaconda skeleton and looking at it speculatively.

"Well, I doubt it would be that. Maybe the clockwork beetles?"

Gerald picked one and wound it up. It jittered along the ground aimlessly.

"I doubt it," he said. "Their controller fell into a vat of tomato soup. Without it, they're just toys. But who knows? Fate works in mysterious ways."

"Oh. Not those, then. How about the cubes? What do they do?"

Gerald picked one up. His fingers tingled slightly, but nothing else happened.

"Well, they seem important," he mused. "But they also seem... inert."

"Inert? What's inert?"

"Nonreactive. I.e. it isn't doing anything."

"I'll remember that. Do we want it to do something?"

"Maybe not," replied Gerald. "They might just be metal cubes, nothing more."

"Would they blow up?"

"Who knows?" said Gerald, setting them down. "If they are what we truly need at the moment, they aren't showing it right now."

As they approach the campsite, Q hefted her tent on her shoulder, glancing towards the others. "You guys didn't have too much fun while I was gone?" she asked when they walked up to the others.
