SymphonianBookworm she/her Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 LOL so true though… whenever I’m walking alone at night I call my friend and talk about how I’m a tenth degree black belt. She then says, “there is no such thing”. I respond, “that’s what everyone thought until they met me.” It’s really quite fun. 2

Morningtide she/her Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Oh absolutely. Less pressure, at least usually

Maybe it's just in my case but I tried school sports and they were absurdly stressful so I quit. Not to say that school isn't stressful, but I don't do well with team sports. At least in school no one else is relying on me 1
Lord Gregorio he/him Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Taekwando is a sport. I think.

In my case, I happened to be the one who was most interested in school in general as well as a lot of the nerdy stuff and I had good grades and always answered questions etc. When you're in a small school, the label becomes "smart kid" day one and suddenly everyone thinks you're gonna cure cancer or something. 1

Yeah I'm actually really glad that I've never experienced that specific type of pressure because I'm sure it can be a lot worse than sports pressure. I fortunately got extremely lucky and am in most of the same classes as the smartest kid at my school, who happens to be the type that scores higher on the standardized tests than the teachers. I hope the pressure isn't too much! I want to say "don't worry about it too much!" but I know that that's not very helpful or possible in a lot of scenarios.

I mean, it was sort of a good thing and a bad thing. Good because it helped me respect my teachers more than most others and made me a better student maybe (seriously, though, if there was a sub I was the only one who had any respect). But also bad because I always was given the load of work during group projects and there were just a lot of expectations that I began to hold to myself that may not have been healthy. It's probably (definitely) at least partially related to the stress I feel in school nowadays. Which is a lot, and hasn't been good for my mental health. I think being an honest, authentic nerd lets you make really good friendships with people simply because you know the people who hang around you genuinely enjoy being around you (cough cough 17th Shard) However I’m in my junior year of college rn and I am FEELING the expectations for this year. Last semester was much harder than this semester but this one’s still hard…. I definitely didn’t stay up till midnight 2 days ago to finish ONE assignment…..

Subs have it so hard. It sounds like it's gotten a bit better? Which is good. School can definitely be stressful and hard, but I think it's worth it and I hope you do to! 2 minutes ago, Cash67 said: Oh I agree with the both of you. Being a nerd has helped me make most of my friendships, although I think sports can do that for you too. It didn't for me but I think it does for a lot of people? I am not super looking forward to college and an increase of that type of stress. On top of dealing with being an adult :/ Again it sounds like it's a bit better now so that's good.

(I will preface this by saying that I was homeschooled… take this next paragraph how you will) Oh I 100% think college is better than HS, you get to study the things you want, and if you find a good supportive friend group, it’s gonna be one of the most fun times you’ve had!!! For example, I have a good study group within my major that’s willing to just crack down on homework, and (idk if you’re religious or not) I found a good Christian group on campus that has helped me stay with my faith and given me some of the most fulfilling friendships I’ve ever had. All of that is just to say, I think you’ll be fine. 2

Well it isn't exactly just like "hey let's go to the same college." Since there's stuff to take into account in those decisions. But perhaps by circumstance...
Immortal Platypus Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Hard to coordinate, but sooooo worth it. (I'm not in college yet, but that is something I would love to do. (ie. college with another Sharder)) And I'm late, but I swim competitively and I play chess competitively, which is apparently a sport (but I don't think it counts). Ballroom/dance=sport, yes or no.

Well I'm seriously considering becoming an author. I'm probably leaving on a mission this year and I can learn how to write from youtube or other things without wasting hundred of dollars. I may have to be part time author and do something else for a time, but I'm honestly not sure. We'll see how I feel in the next two years.
