Myurnix Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 So, I've been part of the community for a while, but I've never really understood it very well. I'm just now getting into WOBs and really want to learn more about the "background." Any primers or tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated! 4
Karger he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Welcome! The coppermind is as good a place as any. Also a surprising amount can be learned by just reading discussions between sharders. A couple weeks ago one of the mods published a general introduction(you can find it under the news tab). Another thing to note is that much of the background we have is speculative or at least not taken from directly observed events or statements. Edited July 16, 2020 by Karger
DramaQueen she/he/neopronouns Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Welcome!!! I mostly hang around the games and rp forums, so I don't have much advice on where to start for background, but I definitely suggest getting involved in the games and rps!! Favorite book/series?
Myurnix Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 Karger - I live for speculation. Very frequent reader/posted in the reddit subs. DramaQueen - I stopped doing RPs a long while ago, but definitely enjoy watching things like that. SLA is my favorite series of all time, no exception. I will say that Wayne is easily my favorite Cosmere character and Wax&Wayne are guilty pleasure re-reads. 1

Mist she/her Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Welcome! If you haven't already read it, I'd recommend reading this article, an introduction to the Cosmere, which Karger mentioned. Never mind the link. Edited July 17, 2020 by Mist
Myurnix Posted July 16, 2020 Author Posted July 16, 2020 Mist - The link appears to be broken, but I think I'm already reading it. "Intro to Cosmere" by Jofwu? 1
Darkfinder she/her Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Welcome Reading WoBs and the coppermind is a way to learn some background information.
Hen she/her Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Hello! If you haven’t read Arcanum unbounded yet, it answers some questions, and has a description of each system in the cosmere made by Kriss. If you have read it... well then you already knew all that. Anyway, welcome to the shard! Edited July 16, 2020 by Hentient
AonEne he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Welcome to the Shard! Always happy to answer any questions you might have.
Adran Oathbreaker he/him Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Welcome, welcome! Well, you're a Sharder now. 3 hours ago, Darkfinder said: Welcome Reading WoBs and the coppermind is a way to learn some background information. Yep. You can learn a lot of stuff here. Honorless he/him Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 @Myurnix, I think the simplest way would be asking questions regarding what you didn't get. There's an entire forum dedicated to it! (Cosmere Q&A). You can also just look stuff up on the Coppermind or read random articles on it, really (it actually does have a go to random page button)
+Krox he/him Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) From experience a whole lot of learning can be done lurking around the forum and the Coppermind, and welcome! 4 hours ago, Honorless said: @Myurnix, I think the simplest way would be asking questions regarding what you didn't get.
