Hoid the Former Drifter he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 if an allomancer ends up on Roshar, can he still use allomancy?
Darkfinder she/her Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Yes they could and nothing much will change from what we understand Hoid even uses emotional allomany on Roshar. Edited July 16, 2020 by Darkfinder
Shard of Reading he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 I don't think where the metals are from matter.
Karger he/him Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Yes. We see Hoid using it during his conversation with Lin Davar during Shallan's Hoid flashback. This is one of the advantages of allomancy. Your location does not mater and the metal is not particularly expensive(compared to breath or stormlight on another world). 2
RShara she/her Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Most magic in the Cosmere is lcoated in the Spiritual Realm, where location and distance aren't important. So most magics can be accessed anywhere, so long as the user has the appropriate fuel. In this case, metal, which is present on all Cosmere planets. The metal isn't invested--it's just a key for the investiture to come through, so metal from anywhere would work, just like color from anywhere would work for Awakening.
+Harrycrapper Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 It's mostly Sel that has trouble doing their magic systems off planet, though it's still possible for them too. 1

If you read carefully as he leaves you can also tell he is burning pewter.

Chinkoln he/him Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 An allomancer would still be able to burn metals, as long as they thought they could. Due to the nature of Intention, if they believed they had no more powers, then they wouldn’t have powers. But if they knew they had powers then they would be able to burn metals. All three metallic arts would be usable anywhere in the Cosmere as long as the user wants to. This extends to Hemalurgy. If someone is stabbed with a spike of the correct metal, in the correct location, it would become invested if that was the intention. If it was happenstance that they were killed in that fashion, then it would still be an ordinary spike. Likewise, if someone has an unkeyed Feruchemical metalmind (A metalmind that can be used by anyone), they wouldn’t be able to access the power unless they knew it was there. Spoiler A perfect example of this is the Bands of Mourning. They touched it but didn’t immediately recognize it for what it was, but once they did, they could access all the power within.

I don't really think so. He is thousands of years old he could do that without pewter. Why would he bother burning it?
Chinkoln he/him Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 He may have grown dependant on pewter. Vin is naturally graceful, quick, and has amazing stability, but without pewter, she feels slow and useless.
