Nooooooooooooo

Spoiler

The movie is just better.

Spoiler

It makes the plot more interesting by having Jack be a liar about his entire identity

Spoiler

And it makes some of the lyrics better

Spoiler

While cutting out songs that nobody cared about

Barbershop lessons is lame

pulitzer is a better villain in the movie because he doesn’t get a song

santa fe lyrics change (just one example

musical:

Quote

I want space, and fresh air, let them...

Movie:

Quote

I want space, not just air. Let them...

More poetic and awesome.

Villain songs are the best *cougheverythingsgoldencough*

I can maybe agree with that one lyric change...

Doesn't make the whole movie better though.

What about the romance that was added in the musical? Are you dissing on Katherine (Plummer) Pulitzer?

Jack still has a romance, it’s just a different character. I think it was smart to separate the reporter and the love interest into 2 people, it makes the cast bigger and each of those characters less cluttered.

villain songs are sometimes the best, if you want your villain to be relatable. Yellow man is supposed to be relatable, he represents everyone’s inner greed and fear of death but exaggerated. Pulitzer is supposed to represent The Man. The Higher Class. He’s way up there, and the newsies are way down here. It makes him seem more intimidating if he isn’t relatable, hence no song.

That romance is the smallest part of the movie. Davey's sister hardly has any screen time. Making the reporter and main girl was a power move that showed how much not just the newsies but the entire generation were challenging social norms at the time.

... I have nothing for this point, but I just like songs in general, so...
