"I was too."  Maybe a little older, and mostly training missions or observation, but still.  "But it doesn't sit right.  This is dangerous."

"If anything's amiss, I'll pull them out right away. If I can't... I guess we just have to hope that they'll actually do what we say."

"Yeah.  I'm not against tackling either of them if need be.  We'll just have to hope this goes right."

I assume the headache would pass as quickly as it came if Remembrance left Craven's head?

It is going to leave Craven's head, right? :P

It will, yes, but currently it is feeling sympathetic. This character is supposed to be different, and because of that I have thus far written it as being mostly emotionally and instinctually driven, with only a little bit of conscious decision. Because of the sympathy, and the curiosity, it wants to help Craven, but probably doesn't realize that breaking its Connection would help the most.

It is again unsure of what will happen, but Remembrance does not like this new pain filling its head. It touches Craven's light, and is flooded with memories. It cannot sort through any of the memories, so it decides to keep its hold on the light. It pushes its own anxiety away, which is slowly replaced by...

Craven felt his headache subside slightly, but it's still there.

It will leave eventually?

Yes, Remembrance will lose interest if Craven doesn't respond to any of its attempts at projecting its emotions to him, and eventually leave.

Ok. Cool character!

Craven stood up experimentally, and found he did indeed feel better. He realized that they probably had already left, and in fear ran outside. The motion made his head hurt a bit more. To his relief, they were still there. He approached Martin and addressed him. "I'm ready now." he said. "My head feels a bit better."

Meanwhile, I'm also going to put some time between right now and earlier. I'll make a Fadran post that timeskips a few days to where we are now.

Stuff's going to happen within three days of their arrival on Sel.

"What? Already?"

I thought that they'd been here for at least a week...

They arrived at night, and the attack on the fox happened at noon the next day. Right now it's afternoon on that day for all of my characters. Maybe evening, a lot has happened. :P

Remembrance's curiosity increases at the swath of new sensations as Craven moves outside. However, this curiosity is streaked with anxiety. It does not know what to do in the face of human senses. It begins to backtrack, but finds itself faced with Craven's memories. It does not know how to read them properly, and its anxiety grows stronger, so Remembrance begins to push through Craven's memories. (This action gives Remembrance an impression of Craven's race. People! New people! Humans? Humans are very new to Remembrance!)

It is too much for Remembrance. It slithers its way out of Craven's memories, and pulls away from his cognitive light. There is a sharp tearing, and suddenly the Connection between it and Craven snaps, leaving Remembrance back in that strange place of beads and dark-rock-glass.

"A good luck charm?"

"Oh, that's not why we're bringing Craven?"  He ruffles the kid's hair.

Exactly two things stuck with me from my USMC cousin: if you aren't 15 minutes prior to fifteen minutes prior, you're late, and it's spelled Corps and pronounced Core.

"Woah!" he said. "It's gone! My headache! I don't feel it anymore!"
