Maybe Queen should get to know people more? Actually, she definitely should, but I don't know if I have time for that.

"Good advice."  Martin grabs a branch, dangling there for a moment, then swinging his feet up to actually climb.

Craven started climbing faster, trying to beat Martin. It got easier as he got higher because the branches became more dense.

Martin bats a branch out of his face and keeps climbing.  He's slower than Craven.  He has to be more careful with where he puts his weight.  "How high up do you think you can go?"  He calls.

"Pretty high!" Craven said, ripping a twig off of the branch he was standing on. "Watch!" He kept going, feeling a gust of wind as he got higher. He'd climbed trees before, during his long walks, but never this high before.

Craven didn't take his own advice and looked down. Wow. That's high. But cowards weren't scared of heights, so he kept going. He was almost to the top now.

Martin bounces carefully on his current branch.  He could probably go a bit higher, but not much further.  "I think this is about as far up as I can get," he says after climbing a little higher.  "These aren't going to support me."  He looks up at Craven.  "Be careful, you're pretty high up."

“I will” he called back, but really just thought about how much of a coward he’d be to turn around so close to the top. He could see where the branches ended and the sky began.

Martin ducks under a branch to get beneath Craven just in case something happens.

Flip a coin.  Heads he's okay, tails he's not.  That's how I would do it.

Heads :P Makes this RP somewhat easier, have to say...

Finally, Craven emerged at the top, and he could see the whole camp. A smile broke out on his face, and he held fast to the branch. A slight gust of wind moved it side to side, and he tried not to remember how high up he was. Thankfully, the splendor of the view dominated his mind.

Then he remembered Martin. “Hey, why are we up here?” Craven asked.

"Why not?"  Martin shoves some of the leaves out of his face to try and get a better view.  "Figured you might want to do something that isn't directly related to fighting."

Craven took one more look at the camp, then retreated back down to be at Martin’s level. “I never fight. It’d be fun, but I always have to watch, and it’s never real fighting anyway.”

"The sparring? I guess it can be fun, but it's hard work."  There's something he's supposed to do here, don't crush his dreams, but also don't put a child in a warzone, how is he supposed to find that line, "I could teach you how to punch."

Craven’s eyes lit up. “Really? Camelia or whoever that lady is gave me the Breath things but never taught me about them, I watched the fighting but couldn’t do it, and you’re letting me do something interesting! Thanks!” He nimbly decended and starting hopping around, air punching. “But I already know how to punch.”

Martin climbs down, jumping the last few feet.  "Do you know how to hold your hands?"

Now, let's see how this goes, because I have no idea how to punch.

“In the air?” Craven holds them up in front of him, making fists at eye level about four inches from his face. “Like this!”

I won’t be able to tell if you get it wrong, either :P

"Yeah, but you've got to sorta," Martin holds out his own hands to show him.  "You've gotta do it right, or you can hurt your fingers.  See?"

“Like... this?” Craven mirrors Martin’s hands, this time moving his thumbs out of his fist.

"Yeah.  If you keep your thumbs inside your fingers, you can mess up the joints.  Okay.  Now, for the most part, you want to keep one fist closer to you to guard, like so."  Martin brings his left fist up at a slight angle, just below his eyes.

Craven mirrors it again, trying to make his feet in the same stance as well.

"Put a little more weight on your front leg," Martin says.  "Block with your non-dominant hand, so that's the leg you want to be leaning on."  He shifts back and forth unconsciously.  "And then you can jab with your dominant hand."  He demonstrates.  "Not too fast, especially now."

Craven did as Martin told, but struck out his fist as fast as he could anyway.

"Your form is good, but you're snapping your elbow.  You don't want to do that."  Martin drops his stance so he can guide his own right arm through a strike.  "You want to make contact without getting your arm all the way straight."

“Like this?” Craven took a step forward and made firm contact in Martin’s side, arm not fully extended. Not too firm contact, of course.
