Slowly - as befitted doors of their stature - the gates swung open, allowing Herate to pass through and into the courtyard beyond.

In the center of said courtyard stood the Wyrn. On one side of him, the regular soldiers stood in a row stretching from him to the gate. Opposing them stood the Myrkaal, looking unusually subdued.

"Welcome home, daughter," he said.

"Well - no. I suppose it is yours to say what you wish in trade, although I think I know what it is."

"Perhaps," said the Wyrn, "we should take this discussion inside. My servants have prepared us a meal, if you are hungry."

"I'd prefer not to. I don't - I can't trust you."

"I think you and I have different definitions of harm. Tell you what. If you let Daolan go back to the camp, I'll come inside."

"I cannot do that, I'm afraid," said Wyrn. "I can, however, allow him to meet with us while we discuss... the future."

Herate considered this for a moment. "Can I bring someone else?"
