Herate walked out of her tent, hair immaculate but rubbing her eyes. She saw everyone standing outside Daolan's tent and smiled, at first assuming that they didn't want to disrupt Daolan's privacy. Then she realized that this was Fadran and that was definitely not true.   Then she got close enough to see inside the tent - Daolan was gone. "Hey, guys. Where's Daolan? Did he go out to train the soldiers?"

Deep within her, she knew that it was unlikely that he had gone to train soldiers without taking her, but she didn't want to believe the other option. She reached the training grounds and halted, puffing slightly from her sprint through the campground. He wasn't there.
