theTruthshaper Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Near the end of Oathbringer, a bunch of gloryspren appears around Dalinar. The same area is then seen in the cognitive realm in Kaladin's POV. However, there are no gloryspren in the cognitive realm. Is this an error, or is something different happening here? 1
Quantus he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 They "dropped" to go to the Physical Realm. Spren leave the Cognitive Realm to manifest in the physical realm when they do, they are not like mortals that exist in all three with the flames visible. 1
theTruthshaper Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 Hardly, spren manifest only partly in the Physical Realm. The complete spren is still in the Cognitive Realm. I think this is shown in one of Rocks chapters.
Honorless he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 When he created the Perpendicularity they manifested in the Physical Realm from the Cognitive Realm. Spren are Cognitive Entities that embody Physical-Spiritual concepts they don't have a presence in the Physical except when they are attracted by the respective phenomenon they embody or by bonds of various natures
theTruthshaper Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 After he created a perpendicularity, all bets are off. But, Renarin and Jasnah see swarms of spren floating towards Dalinar. These spren atleast should have been visible in Shadesmar.

I think it's possible for spren to be completely in physical or completely in cognitive realm as well. The spren in Shadesmar say that windspren are quite rare because they are almost always in the physical realm. 2

It's also how Syl was able to "run away" to the physical realm and hide, long before she ever manifested 100% in the physical realm as a Shardblade.
theTruthshaper Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 Syl is clearly a special case since she is not a subspren. Also, the windspren almost manifest completely in the Physical Realm, unlike the gloryspren of which we could only see the heads.
Honorless he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Often times with the lesser spren a specific part of their body manifests in the Physical Realm, like tongue (anticipationspren) or drool (Angerspren) but sometimes spren do materialize fully in the Physical Realm like the Windspren tend to. Hmmm Can anyone paste abstracts from that scene? Did the Gloryspren materialize how they normally do rather than fully? I mean, did they only appear as floating golden orbs or did their whole bodies appear
Solant he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I had a great metaphor about turtles poking their heads out of the water but I'm far too lazy to type it out with my Kindle 1

Thousands of golden spheres, more spren than he’d ever seen in one place. They swirled around him in a column of golden light. Beyond it, Odium stumbled back. So small, Dalinar thought. Has he always looked that small? 1
theTruthshaper Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 This clearly says that they were not manifesting fully, ergo they must also be in the Cognitive Realm.
Honorless he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Okay, yup something weird is going on here Or maybe a typo?
