Hello, water mage here. I just sucked the moisture out of that dude, killing him almost instantly. I can also use my power to completely negate wood mages by sucking the moisture out of their trees.

Fire mage: Sucked all the heat out of that dude/ his trees and made the temperature near the air mage 0 Kevlar so no molecules could move. I also superheated the metal mage's metal so it melted, and I am heat resistant.

Air mage: Oxygen to breathe? not on my watch

Wood mage: You ate something with seeds? oops, I exploded your stomach

I don't even need to do the metal mages...

Earth mage: you were standing on ground? what ground? You just got suffocated by a ball of mud going into your throat

Hey, that could actually work with my ley lines based magic in Kings and Rebels. Dry out the trees and then set a nice little fire to the forest to flush - erm smoke - out whoever's hiding there. :P It's the sort of stuff Alastair would do if he gets pissed at Illugi the Black and his tricks one more time. :)

So, yeah, I suggest following Sanderson's Somethingth Law and making the limitations more interesting than the powers. For example, forced specialisation (lending itself to a kind of 'super-hero' feel), limits on the number of mages, or limits on the amount they can use their magic. You could even go so far as redefining the elements they can effect - say, by states of matter. You can have liquid, gas, solid, plasma, flesh, and mind, for instance - liquid is roughly water, gas is roughly air, solid is roughly earth, plasma is roughly fire, and perhaps only flesh mages can directly affect the body, while mind mages can directly affect the mind.

If you wanted to; you could put metal under earth, replace it with light( i.e. Make it lighter/darker/different colors), and rename wood nature or flora. What do you think?

Also; "Hey, Sylph the Water Mage here, I've studied the human cardio vascular system and the the human respiratory system, I just increased my brothers blood pressure to an unprecedented level and drew enough of the water from his blood into his lungs to break the blood/lung barrier, effectively causing mass internal bleeding and making him drown on his own blood. Not to mention the brain damage.

Why did you make this possible?!?"

@ShadowLord_Lith Please stop Necroing threads. Necro stands for Necromancy and is a term for when someone posts in a thread no one has posted in for a long time. Necro's are generally considered unhelpful because it distracts from new threads. Thank you for listening.
