While doing yet another Oathbringer re-read, I got curious about something. When the group gets transported to Shadesmar and Shallan is looking around trying to find a way to get them away from the rising soul of the Unmade there, she sees hundreds of little orange or green people shaped spren a few inches tall. She sees them in the ocean of beads moving among the beads. Any guess what type of spren these could be?

I am by no means theorizing they are important or anything, just curious.

I've seen it theorized that they might be Painspren, which makes sense to me; they show up in the PR as tiny hands, they're usually orange but corrupted ones are green, and they were responding very readily in Kholinar, suggesting there were a lot of them nearby.

The only real problem is that in Jasnah's 'deleted' WoR scene Ivory says that Painspren are dangerous in Shadesmar. But just because they're small doesn't mean they're safe to attract and that scene is only sort of canon anyway.

"Deleted Scene"?

Thanks folks. Couple of things here that could make sense. Guess there’s really no way to know for sure.

someone mentioned connection spren... I guess I don’t really understand that?

Brandon wrote what happened to Jasnah after Shallan thought she was killed. Jasnah was in the cognitive realm, and Ivory warned of the coming pain spren. She said they were harmless, but Ivory said here they "harm-more". Considering anger spren is blood pooling and we find out that is only their saliva, while with anticipation spren is waggling tongues, one can only imagine what is sourced from sinewy hands.

I feel like the painspren on the cognitive side might be bigger than the tiny hands we see. Here is a quote from the scene

"A sudden screech broke Shadesmar’s silence. Jasnah jumped, spinning. It sounded a trumping beast, only overlaid by the sounds of glass breaking. The terrible noise drove a shiver up her spine. It sounded like it had come from someplace nearby."

This scene from Jasnah's point of view right after she 'dies' that shows her escaping into Shadesmar. I call it a 'Deleted Scene' in quotation marks because it wasn't ever actually supposed to be part of the book.

They're crawling in and among the little beads that signify things, so could be that they're embodiments of the Connection between things. Similar the way spanreeds work, with one green spren representing one half and one orange spren being the other half of that Connection and hanging around the other bead.

They are also mentioned earlier as guarding a box.

Oathbringer page 953

He looked down at the box, which was locked to the table and guarded by small orange spren that looked like people.

Well that rules out singer souls.
