Tom spread his hands helplessly. "I don't know. I would think that Narrators would have an unlimited amount, but... Star wasn't able to do it, and neither was your twin." He sighed. "Just another of Silence's many tricks, I guess..."

Ruin grunted. damnation… What now? “Wait, how did Silence do it? Travel between universes, I mean.”

Star smiled. "I suppose that goes for both of us, doesn't it? Though... burns..." She chuckled awkwardly. "Well anyway, I'd love to snuggle with you if... you'd... like to." She swallowed, blushing. "Or not. I'm sorry. I really just..." She looked at him helplessly.

Pheonix smiled, wrapping his arm around her. "I'd love to," he said simply.

Here's some of the things I wrote, but won't be able to post. Read it only if you want to, the whole point is that it is long.

"Oh..." Star blushed some more. "Well, I… I’m so tired, Pheo, I’d fall asleep before any snuggling actually happened. And it’s not that I don’t want to be held for a while, I…” She paused and paused awkwardly. “I really want to be held. By you.” Star trailed off, closing her eyes. "Oh, fine..."

Star looked up at BoS, dark circles under her tired eyes. "No. What do you need it for, dear?"

Star chuckled lightheartedly. "Well, I've got nothing on me right now, sorry. Good luck finding some though."

Ember eyed the cuddling couple with intense curiosity, notably avoiding Shadow with her eyes. She was still angry with that one. She had hoped to be able to talk with her master, but now it looked like she wouldn't get that chance. She picked at her charcoal nails, uncertain as to her position. Heather had wanted her to say hi… shouldn’t she at least do that?

The Destroyer walked silently across the deck, then paused. She didn't want to interrupt anything. But... Star... Her shoulders slumped as she tried to decide what to do.

BoS sighed and looked around for more Narrators. Looks like we will have to go back to TLT. Ruin thought.

Energy swelled within BoS. Using this she wrote her self into the universe. Nothing had visible had changed, which was nice. BoS went down to the wine cellar, where Heather lay crying. Pathetic fool, Ruin thought as it summoned some wine laced with drugs. They didn’t need to be to powerful, as she was just a character. A character who had ascended and was self-aware. Ruin would give Heather some credit. It knocked on the door, even though it was already open. “Yes?” She croaked. “Hello…” Heather’s eyes went wide when she saw BoS Ruin go into the room. “I wanted to apologize…” It made its voice sound awkward, as Shadow wouldn’t be experienced in these things. “Okay…?”  The Splinter shuffled it’s feet nervously. “Want some wine?” Heather sighed. “You are really bad at this aren’t you?” She took the wine, popping off the cap. Ruin handed her 2 wine glasses and she poured. It sat down, sitting with her legs out in a carefree way. Heather handed it the glass. “Toast?” Heather held out her glass. That’s when she noticed the Puppet’s eyes. Heather dropped her glass, shattering against the wooden planks. Ruin just sighed. “Heather, this was supposed to be a covert mission. Then you had to go and screw it up.” Heather just sat there in shock. “You really should have seen this coming, it was quite obvious.” The Imposter charged, pinning Heather to the ground. First it tied a gag onto her mouth so she couldn’t scream. Heather finally started to react, trying to wiggle free. But Ruin had beat her. Summoning rope, it did some fancy knots tying her hands together. Next came the legs, which at this point Heather had stopped struggling. She knew she had lost. “You are pathetic, but not stupid.” Ruin muttered as it dragged her to her feet. She was crying. “So emotional.” Heather was thrown against the wall, hard enough that she was knocked out. Ruin sighed. “You were doomed from the start.”

BoS used more Narrative Energy to travel to Mistborn Era 1. An Inquisitor picked up the doomed soul, carrying her over his shoulder. Ruin did not need to give commands, as they were all just puppets for God itself. Three other Inquisitors were present, and one handed BoS a small earring, a bag of coins, and flakes of steel suspended in a small vial. She put it on, then swallowed the flakes. She burned the metal, and watched how blue lines sprout out before her. She threw down a coin, and launched herself into the air and ash. The others followed suit, heading towards Coventical Seran.

All Heather felt was pain. What the…? Then it all came back. BoS apologizing. Ruin. Getting tied and gagged. Thrown against the wall. Blackness. That explains the headache. Heather thought. She tried to sit up, but that’s when she noticed she was chained to a chair. Directly above her had similar restraints, almost as if a person were to be laid on top. Heather also heard shuffling and whimpering, sounded like more hostages. “Ah yes, I see we are awake now.” Ruin said. It was still using BoS’s body and voice. It removed the gag, tossing it to the side. “Why?” Was all she could get out. Ruin just smiled. “You will see.” And Inquisitor appeared in her view, carrying a hostage. They strapped him into the chair thing, right above her. He seemed to be in his early thirties, and he was crying. Then he started to scream. She heard the pounding of metal against metal. That’s when she felt the spike hit her eye. She began to scream too, and Shadow just smiled.

All Heather felt was pain. Again. But a million times worse. She tried to see, but all she saw was blue outlines. If Heather squinted hard enough, she could tell what color things were. Everything seemed to be red. Her hands, the floor, her clothes. Is that blood? “Took you long enough.” BoS-No, Ruin stood in the doorway. It came over to where Heather was laying, not minding the blood. She sat up, with some effort. Ruin smiled. That evil, twisted smile. Heather started to tremble. Please please please… She thought as she slowly put her hands to her face. Iron and Steel spikes had replaced her eyes. Heather wanted to cry. She wanted to feel the tears slide down her face and watch as her vision went blurry with tears. And since she couldn’t, it only made her want to cry more. “Why?” She croaked, her voice hoarse from screaming. “You wanted to be useful. Powerful. And I gave that too you. A thank you would be sufficient.” Heather couldn’t take it anymore. The newly made Inquisitor stood up, facing her counterpart. “You got over that quickly, didn’t you? To bad Skylar didn’t.” Heather punched Ruin square in the jaw. It just laughed, and didn’t stop. Consumed with rage, the Inquisitor grabbed an obsidian axe off the counter. Ruin stood up, still smiling. Without thinking, the axe flew through the air. Mere milliseconds before the axe hit Ruin in the chest, It ripped itself out of BoS’s body, leaving the scared little girl behind. Then the axe hit her chest, adding more blood to the floor. All Heather saw, with much effort, were It’s eyes change from dark, to gray, then to a beautiful ocean color. The last time she had seen those eyes was on a bench in the woods along an abandoned road. They had closed not long after, just like the eyes before her. The empty body landed with a splat, axe buried in it’s the chest. “NO!” Heather screamed. She started to cry, just without the tears.

Heather hadn’t moved in days. She sat on the floor, staring at the corpse. It was just Ruin emotionally manipulating you. It just wants you to feel like this. But she didn’t care. The only time she had moved was when Ruin took over her body and made her change. Heather wore dark clothes. Black trousers with dark leather tied at the bottom, with a matching belt and shirt. She also wore a cloak that only went down to her mid-back, which she found odd. What was even more weird was a metal layer separating her skin from her clothes on her back. It wasn’t super thick, barely even noticeable. Kind of like the spikes that protruded from her chest. Other than the layer of protection, there was no other types of metal except for a bag of coins and small vials of suspended metal. It was what the other Inquisitors wore, but they showed more chest and their robes were also more of an ashen gray than black.

A few hours later, reality swirled around the poor Inquisitor, transporting her back to the wine cellar. Not a minute had past since her time in Mistborn Era 1. The only signs of struggle was the shattered glass and spilled wine. Heather was still in the same position as she was in the Conventical Seran. She just sat there, sitting in the wine that looked like blood, feeling numb.

Ember was about to take another step forward, when something slammed into her head. It wasn't something physical, but something mental - a blip in time. But in that blip, things had happened. Important things. She tripped, falling headfirst into the ground below. What had that been?

Star heard the crash and turned toward Ember. Author's Pen, would she ever get to sleep? She wiggled out of Pheo's arms and stood, attempting to help Ember to her feet before realizing that she was just a projection; a chilling reminder of their situation. "Are you all right?" she asked.

Ember looked up at her master. "I am fine," she replied, standing. Her eyes widened as she realized her purpose for coming “I would like to request an audience with her Ladyship, the Hero,” Ember said, kneeling on one knee. She cringed at the sound of her own voice. That wasn’t ‘hi.’ Oh, well…

Star cocked her head, eyeing the Destroyer. “You mean… me?”

Ember looked up, her eyes burning like a lava lamp; slow, glowing with heat. “Yes,” she cooed.

Star felt heat rise in her cheeks. “Ember, you’re my sister. And I’m not royalty.  Come on now, get up.” She reached a hand of help out toward Ember, but the charred girl quickly scooted away, falling to her knees in a full head-to-the-ground bow.

“No, do not touch me,” she said. “Please. And audience, Highness.”

“I… all right.” Star looked to Pheonix, shrugging. She deserves my time too, she told him mentally. You don’t mind, do you? We’ll only be a minute.

Star sighed. She wanted that sleep for herself. But there was never any rest for her, was there?

With a snap, she and Ember were sitting at a small table in a once grand hall. Fantastic’s abandoned castle from Queen of Shadows. A dark place in Star’s past, maybe, but it was quiet, and now that the time curse had been removed, it was rather pleasant. Sunlight streamed through the huge windows, birds fluttering around in the rafters. Astral’s old throne still sat on the dais, black and decaying, but overgrown with flowers. It was a place of beauty now. Of course, this place wasn’t the real thread, but a projection. Star loved creating places like this. In all reality, they were both inside Star’s head. It was a nice place to get away sometimes. Even if, on TLT, that hadn’t worked all that well for her.

Ember took the transportation in stride, sitting with perfect posture opposite Star. It was infinitely unnerving to be watched so intently by those eyes. Like looking through the eye holes of a skull. “What do you have to say?”

“I was wrong about you,” Ember replied in that stiff tone of her’s. “I thought that you must have done something to deserve your burns. That they were punishment for something you did. What I did not understand is that existence is cruel and unfair, particularly to the ones we should revere. Fate, however, is as impartial as they come. I misjudged you when I should have trusted that I was written to protect something truly precious. And you are… more than worthy of my protection. It is too much to call me your sister. You are my Keeper and Queen. Hurting the Shadow was terrible of me. I wanted so badly to destroy and… I…” Ember’s form began to shake and she made hiccup-like whimpering sounds. It took a moment for Star to register that she was doing her version of crying. The tears must have evaporated before they would even get to her cheeks. She made her odd crying sounds for perhaps two full minutes, gentle steam rising from her eyes. When she finally calmed down, she said, “ I cannot control my powers, or my human… emotions. I need someone to help me. Someone to guide me. Please forgive me my failings. Compared to your infinite light, I am an ember indeed. When I was first born, I thought that I deserved respect and recognition. I see now what an arrogant fool I was. I am nothing to you. But I hope that you will accept my servitude and protection.”

Star’s mouth had dropped halfway through Ember’s monologue. She had wanted to interrupt her at times, but it was almost chilling to hear so much out of her. She was always so… reserved. Star was hit with the realization that Ember was… far more complex and self-aware than she had ever thought. “Ember,” she said, concerned yet deeply touched. “I don’t… I can’t accept this. I… I’m not worthy of your protection. No singular person is. And you, you’re so much more than just someone’s slave.”

Ember shook her head. “No, no, no, no, no. You do not understand. I want this. I choose this. I do not understand enough to make the decisions that come with my powers. I am too afraid of hurting someone. I quite literally destroy anything that I touch. When the violet goddess left me, I did not have any direction anymore. But she wrote me to protect you. She is my Author and yours. I’m begging you, my Queen. Take me. In your hands I can reach my fullest potential.”

Star sighed. “All right…? I guess?”

A small smile seemed to cross Ember’s lips and she relaxed a bit. “Thank you,” she said earnestly.

Star smiled back. “Well, then, we should get back.” I really need to sleep… With another snap, they had returned.

Star smiled and leaned down, kissing Pheonix on the cheek. So much for cuddles. Ah, well. She’d make sure it happened later.

Star wandered around for a few minutes before finding an unlocked bedroom. It was nondescript, with generic furnishings, but the bed looked nice and that was all she cared about. She breathed a sigh of relief and kicked off her sandals, shutting the door behind her. At her utterance, she changed into something more suitable for sleeping and pulled back the covers, climbing in. Within seconds of her head hitting the pillow, she was asleep. Unhindered, she would rest for the next two days, trapped in uneasy dreams, her mind conflicted by her joy at Pheo’s very existence and her turmoil over the plight of her friends. Completely unaware that the world around her was far more unstable than she thought.

Ember stood on the deck, contemplative. She felt good. Really good. She was glad that Heather had encouraged her to 'say hi' to Star. The thought made her excited. She had done something right! Star was kind to her! Tingling with happiness, Ember rushed down the stairs to where she had last seen her friend, having completely forgotten the time-blip incident.

She was not completely taken aback by her friend's change because she did not understand what had happened. She did not understand the weight of what it all meant. "Heather," she said, "you feel different."
