Kumiko watched the Phoenix try to get above her, while a second phoenix hovered in the distance, this one pitch-black. She started to struggle to keep up the humming, her body hurting from the strain of keeping up the wind, the heat burning at her skin. As the Phoenix dropped down at her she switched to the second form she had prepared. Her previous form dissappeared, and nine white fox tails appeared instead. Her hair turned white as well, and her ears turned into those of a fox. Her clothing changed too, forming something resembling a shrine maiden's outfit, and the amulet on her necklace changed into a small, jewel-like ball. Kitsune, she thought.

Sparks of lightning started dancing between her tails, and she flew out of the way of the incoming Phoenix, grabbing Aln on the way out. Five large balls of purple flame appeared around her, sparks of lightning crackling between them. Landing on the roof of a nearby building she dropped of Aln, then took to the skies again, rushing towards the Phoenix. Throwing her arms forwards the balls of flame launched towards the Phoenix, turning and twisting in the air, following the Phoenix as it flew.

Suddenly, she slowed, coughing, pain flaring up from her ribs. She tasted blood in her mouth. The strain from the forms were slowly getting to her. Her face grew determined. She could feel the Alleystorm approaching, somewhat relieving the strain. Just a bit longer, she thought.

Thanks for the help!

Aln stumbled as she landed, then turned to look back at the battle above her. Storms, she thought. She saved me. If that costs her this battle... Aln began to write again.

Yeah, Kumiko is going to be somewhat pissed off by the fact that she did this, once everything is over. On the plus side, character development. :P

"What do you want from my husband?"

She asked mostly to cover herself reaching out for Max body. He was hers. She wrapped her surge around him and attempted to teleport him over to where she was standing.

Tels fell off the roof in surprise when a woman suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Rusting Radiants. Flying back up to the roof, he hovered for a moment before landing back on the roof. He opened and closed his mouth several times before deciding what to say.

“I’m using your husband for bait,” Tels said simply. “The Phoenix wants him dead, more than it wants the Alleycity destroyed. My thought was to lead it away using Max, and try to bring him someplace safe, I just don’t know where yet. I apologize for using Max, but I’m not sorry for trying to save the Alleycity. Either you’re with me, or against me with this plan, and I’d really rather not try and take Max forcefully from you... Will you help me?”

He hadn't expected the woman to show up--that was a surprise, but now that she was here, a new branch of possibilities had opened up.

"There are two Phoenix in the city, and we have the one thing they'll want after that building burns down," Eiran gestured to PlasmaCore in the distance. "We also have an enemy army nearby about to attack. Ajax and his creatures. All this works perfectly for him. Phoenix leave us weakened and give him the perfect opportunity to invade. There is no plausible way for us to survive that as well without massive amounts of casualties. Unless, that is, we have one take out the other.

"Sending anyone into danger is not something any TUBAist suggests lightly, but I've seen what happens when we don't and it's much worse. Go ahead, go to safety, just understand how many lives may be lost because of that choice." That was all that was keeping him from turning in on himself--the fact the alternative was worse.

Freedom followed the others out. It made sense that there was a way through the barrier. She noted where they'd exited.

Laurelai stared at Lita, it took her a while for the words to sink in, for the situation to sink in. The creature that had destroyed half the city two decades ago had returned, was destroying the city once more. And here they stood having a polite conversation. It just seemed too surreal to be real, for a moment she thought she was midway through a bad and particularly unlikely Forgery.

But she wasn't, this was reality. The creature that had orphaned her and many others was taking lives the way a farmer reaped a field of wheat. And she was doing nothing to stop it, could do nothing to stop it.

Still feeling a little strange she turned towards Lita and gave an awkward and uncertain smile.

"Well." She began, licking her dried and cracked lips. "Even if it's destroyed I don't plan on letting that stop us."

She tapped the ground with her foot, it wasn't entirely necessary but sometimes gestures like that felt like they helped. And the circle of stone that Lita had blackened returned to pristine condition once more.

Is that all you can do? Fix a place to drink once the city is destroyed? Shouldn't you be trying to help people? Heal them at least?

Her eyes darted towards the mouth of the Alley, towards the faint sounds of screaming she could hear in the distance. But she made no move towards them. Maybe in some other life she could have been brave enough to try and help, but not in this one. And she was not interested in changing herself into that other life just so that she could feel good about herself in the moments before she was incinerated.
@ZincAboutIt
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two legged one who pretended to claim the skies darted out from beneath her as she dove, something about them seemed different as they darted out of the way, but they were not an Enemy, not yet. Her eyes shifted towards the Enemy of Stone, it was the only thing that mattered right now, that was the principle of her hunt. The principle of life. When something was an enemy that meant it died, and nothing else mattered until that happened.

Her weight-enhanced body slammed into the building, and she felt the concrete shatter beneath her, the metal reinforcements melted and warped as her mass slowly compressed it all down.

A spray of dust and flame sprang up around the building as she crashed through one floor after the next before finally spreading her wings once again and restoring her body to its usual lightened form. The building lay crumbled beneath her, a mass of indistinguishable parts. But even that was not enough to satisfy her, she would burn it until only ash remained. No, she would burn it further until not even ash was left, she would remove its very existence from this world.

But it was not the only Enemy she faced today, there was still another, elsewhere in the city. She'd never had two Enemies at once before, she didn't know what to do. Did she finish this one for good or chase the other as well? The other Enemy had already returned once before when she'd thought it dead, could she allow this one to do the same? But what if she stayed to finish this Enemy and the other escaped once again? Enemies could not be allowed to escape.

The joy of having another Enemy to contend with still was matched only by her frustration and confusion at how to handle them. Her flames flared bright once again as she spun around in midair, wings flaring out to catch pieces of the building and knock them aside. Even this brief contact was enough to cause the stone to begin glowing at the edges as they were thrust out and over the city. And then the chucks of concrete and metal began to descend again in a fiery shower.

You may finish this one. She sent towards her Rival in the air. I hunt the other Enemy.

She loathed sharing her Enemy with another, but there were two enemies now, that meant she needed two hunters.

She gathered herself to pursue when she saw a collection of purple balls of fire appear. She would have attributed them to her Rival, but these were on the wrong side, and behind them, arms thrust forward, was the one who had Pretended to the skies. Rushing towards her once more.

First the Skies and now the Flame. Does this Pretender know no shame?

She screeched towards them once more, altering her course slightly. Her pride would not allow her to let this Pretender continue to live, Enemy or no. So she dove forwards, ignoring the flames that screeched towards her and matching them with her own.

Kumiko watched the flames spew forth from the Phoenix, swallowing her foxfire. She flew upwards, darting past the Phoenix. She felt her bones aching, and started having trouble focussing. Too much, she thought. She darted around the Phoenix, trying to buy time, shooting small balls of foxfire to try and distract it while she tried to focus. She selected a different form, creating the necessary histories and folklore. She combined them, creating a new form, one that used less power, one that was more adapt at dealing with this opponent.

Suddenly she dropped out of the sky, her old form vanishing. As she fell a new form appeared, dark red scales formed patterns on her skin, and her clothing changed into a tight outfit made of red leather. Salamander, she thought.

She looked down at the ground that was rapidly coming closer and focussed. A small flame flickered in front of her, and then she suddenly blazed with fire herself. At the same time the heat from the Phoenix stopped bothering her. Fire shot downwards from her hands, launching her back up into the air, back towards the Phoenix.

“The reason the Phoenix storming hates me is because I Rioted it,” Max said, leaning on Sethramir for balance. He looked to Tels and narrowed his eyes. “You’re in my goodwill for going against that psycho lady and her blank-faced boyfriend. Thank you.”

He looked to others on the rooftop. “The AlleyStorm is coming, however,” he said. “And with my Rioting I can probably keep the Phoenix,”

He looked into the sky.

Two Phoenixes distracted. Maybe get them to leave.”

Althea shook her head, her voice cold.

"Why are both you assuming, that I, that we want to see this city burn?"

She placed a hand on Max arm, made sure that he was here, that he was safe for the moment.

"My soldiers are dying to evacuate the civilians, would I give an order like that, if I didn't care? If I wanted to leave, both of us would be gone already."

Narrowing her eyes she looked first at Tels, then at Eiren.

"What I am not alright with, is someone abducting those I've sworn to protect. You can ask for help, explain a plan, so that we can work together. Because I think we agree, that we need for the phoenix to go. And that soon. Before the whole city burns like Oasis did."

Turning to Tels she simply looked at him for a moment.

"But if you try to uselessly get him killed again, then I can promise you, that the Ghostbloods will hunt you down. It's not your decision to use him as bait, and it will never be yours. It is his. So to answer your question, I am against you."

She continued to look at him, but spoke to Max, loud for once.

"What do you need to make them leave? Maybe I can help. Maybe these two can help, if they are willing to cooperate instead of abduct."

Tels turned to Althea and simply raised a sleeve to show a Ghostblood tattoo on his own bicep.

“With all due respect, I saved Max because the fate of the Alleycity is at stake. Not for any other reason. I’m happy to save a life, but first and foremost, I’m concerned for this city.”

Turning to everybody, he continued. “I’m willing to cooperate, especially now that I’m not the only one calling the shots. Max, you said you can distract the Phoenix, but what about control it? There was a reason I contacted you for this job- you have a skill set unlike anyone else’s, the perfect set to deal with the Phoenix. Frankly, if we could kill both the Phoenixs, the world would probably be a much safer place... Anyways, if we want to set our plan into action, I have enough ribbons of sand to fly us to Ajax, or perhaps if there is enough stormlight, Althea, you could teleport us there.”

"I am a member of the Triarchy leading your guild."

She informed him, her voice cool, no emotions leaking into it, or showing on her face. He could draw the conclusion that threatening her was dumb on his own. She'd kick him out with much more than a few words. Still it meant she would have to look after him as well - not that he needed to know it.

"So basically you want to lure the Phoenix to Ajax and have them destroy his army?"

She summed his words up, to make sure there was no missunderstanding.

"Do you know where this Lord Ajax is?"

“First and foremost, we can’t kill the Phoenix,” Max said in response to Tels.

“Stronger warriors than both of us combined have tried and they’ve all failed. Next, when the AlleyStorm hits I’ll be able to at most control one of them. And that’s ‘control’ put in very loose terms. These are DA monstrosities, fit with the most current stability spikes to go exactly against my type of Rioting. I’ll be able to heavily influence one, which I’ll count as controlling for the purposes of your plan, and distract the other. I can use the one I influence to attack Ajax.”

“But,” he said. “This will only last as long as the AlleyStorm. Once it passes, the power boost will too, and I’ll be out of nicrosil to keep up the Rioting. Then we’re really rusted.”

He looked to Althea to answer her question, though she looked straight ahead. “I’ll need protection while I Riot,” he said. “That much emotional Allomancy, my mind’ll be practically too occupied to multi-task my body on top of that.” And some healing would be nice, he almost said, but he didn’t, because they had other, more severe problems to fret. about and he didn’t want Althea to worry about him.

The small purple flames continued to fly in from around her, but she paid them no mind. Even if they hit her they would do no lasting damage. This Pretender would learn its mistake of challenging her if it thought this would be enough.

She twisted again, sending a spiral of flame out from her body as they flew. Several buildings ignited from the passage of the flames, but the Pretender dropped out of the way, changing once more. She watched the figure carefully but did not slow, if the Pretender could not even keep pace with her at this speed then it wouldn't be worth the trouble of burning.

First sky, then fire. What form will you challenge me with next? She wondered. A hint of excitement bubbling up through the rage.

New flames burst out below as the figure rocketed back into the air, its form had certainly changed, but it still reeked of the Flame. Perhaps it thought it was more powerful this way? But that would still not be enough to challenge her. She locked eyes with theirs and dimmed the flow of her own flames down. Enough that her body would be visible without difficulty.

Try your best. I accept the challenge.

She would endure anything that this Pretender could produce, and then it would submit or it would be destroyed with all the rest.

Kumiko looked at the Phoenix hanging in the air, and frowned. Why wasn't it attacking? It must be thinking, she decided. That was an issue. An enemy who was blindly attacking was easier to deal with than one who had readied themselves. She looked up, and launched herself into the sky, diving straight at the neck of the Phoenix, abandoning all thought of self-preservation. It didn't matter how much damage the Phoenix did to her, as long as it didn't kill her immediately. A single hit, that would be all she needed.

She watched the Pretender soar up towards her, they were making use of flames rather than air to fly, bursts flying from beneath them to push them upwards and towards her in a suicidal dash.

Inefficient. But brave.

She turned to face them fully, she would give them her attention fully this moment in respect. But she caught a glimpse of what had overtaken the horizon, what was almost upon the city itself now. The storm had finally caught up to her.

Out of time now.

Her eyes turned back towards the Pretender, closing for a moment to acknowledge them.

You lived well.

Her talons flashed out as she uncurled them, ready to receive the oncoming foe. She made use of all of her speed to pull them up in time and slash down at the tiny figure that rocketed towards her.

Kumiko saw the claws flash towards her. She tried to move around them, lighten the blow, but it didn't matter. One claw cut straight through her stomach, and another took of her right leg. She screamed in pain as the impact threw her away towards a distant building. Desperately she tried to focus, activate her power. Just before she hit the building shining red and gold feathers started growing from her arms and hair. She hit the side of the building with a sickening crunch, her spine breaking, her skull cracking. What was left of her organs got flattened. Slowly she tumbled down towards the ground. But as she fell a faint light started shining from her body. A faint flame flickered around her, and slowly her wounds started healing. The light shone brighter and brighter, a powerful golden color, and a massive flame burst alight around her. Kumiko screamed. Defiance, pain, victory. A wave of flame spread out from her as she landed on the ground, destroying the street around her. The fragments paused in the air, then launched towards the Phoenix. Slowly, Kumiko stood up, her wounds healed.

Eiran nodded. He hadn't spoken after addressing her the first time--better to let the inter-guild politics be. And he wasn't quite sure how to explain that he hadn't actually done any of the abducting and that he and Tels had literally met for the first time moments before she'd shown up. He'd just known it was going to happen and built off of that.

He pulled out a map and pointed. "Ajax is there."

A part of him rebelled at telling them that. They'd go. And if they were hurt or killed, he'd be to blame.

Eiran, he told himself. you did the math.

But he only saw the bad. Maybe there were more positive outcomes from the same things that caused the worse ones. Maybe he was totally wrong.

He didn't want to be responsible for someone's fate. Except there wasn't an alternative. Eiran had made a choice when he'd climbed to the top of the building.

No.

He'd made the choice when he'd joined TUBA. Sure, it hadn't come to play until now, but that was when he'd decided. He had his ability for a reason and it wasn't just to save him from making calculation errors.

I apologize for my lack of activity as of late. Since I have been inactive, this is no longer relevant, but it must be posted. Although I doubt anyone will be able to respond in help. Also, Ark, could you get Ambrosia active for this? Oh and btw Ax if Tena is not busy at the moment (as I said, I don't know what is happening), could you get her to come too? The place they need to go is Silas' house.

Silas writhed. Multiple sections of his encasement had been removed, small hexagons cut from the tungsten. However, instead of relieving some of his pain, there was a problem with these holes. Each one had been filled with a hybrid fabrial, one that created heat and pain. If Silas were free from the Eggshell, you could see the hexagonal brands upon his skin, each one burnt to a blackened crisp. By now, he had lost consciousness. Even if he were to be freed, he would never be the same person. Never could be the same person.

A new hole was cut. This time, something cold, sharp, and only mildly painful was inserted. The spike pierced his flesh, and with the gained power, a gemheart began to form. No spren yet resided within, but once he was released, he would be set free to bond and gain a form within the Alleystorm. If he were lucid, he would have already decided upon smokeform. A small snippet whispered in his head. Smokeform for hiding and slipping between men. A form of power, like human Surges. Bring it 'round again. Though crafted of gods, It was by Unmade hand. Leaves its force to be but one of foe or friend. It was a stanza from one of the songs Nascenes spoke of. If he were able to obtain this form, he could hide from Allak.

Was the monster named Allakn-Isal his father? No. Yes. Silas wasn't sure. But who was Silas? Silas was a weak and a dead man. The name of the man trapped inside the realm of pain was... Talostr-Akuv. Yes. That was his name. He learned this from the voice, whispering in his ear, telling him the truth of who he was and what he was born to do. Talostr-Akuv, or simply Talost. Son of Allak. The Furious Hunter. Regardless of Phoenix or Vortex, Talost would rise from the marred corpse of his fallen self. A bitter man. A better man. He was the better man. Talost was the best. After all, the whispering voice told him so. And the voice never lied.

Don't look at the void, don't look at the void, just like baking bread, don't look at the void, don't think about your parents, just get to PlasmaCore and help and DON'T LOOK AT THE VOID. Deteca knew she wasn't doing very well. Learning how to Alleytravel hadn't been her first priority during her time infiltrating the Dark Alley, and she'd only ever done it a few times. She remembered that finding a metaphor and using that to concentrate made for easier movement, but she wasn't certain how well she was performing. She took slow, steady steps forward, passing through the city and quite possibly places that weren't in the Alleycity at all. Don't think about Mom and Dad, don't look at the rusting void.

It was almost a relief when she finally encountered someone, apparently a little girl dressed in rags - a child living on the streets. Not that Deteca actually thought she was one, deep in the alleys as they were; either she'd stumbled upon an abomination and was about to die in one of a variety of ways or she'd stumbled upon a denizen, and she wasn't sure which was worse. She stopped in the alley she was in, exhaling as she let go. Might as well ask directions, she thought ruefully.

"Hello," she said carefully. "I'm fairly inexperienced for an Alleytraveler; could I possibly ask how close I am to the PlasmaCore building? Where the Phoenixes are attacking?"

Whisper gave the woman a curious look over when she spotted her. She seemed anxious certainly, perhaps a little afraid? Enough caution to keep her distance. But she still asked Whisper a question, so she couldn't be that afraid yet.

Whisper looked down the Alley the woman was travelling in, trying to gauge the distance of the path that had been constructed.

Around 6 minutes or so? Could probably make it in 3 but she'd need to run for that.

In most of the Alleys, running was a bad idea. Sometimes it was the only option you had, but running was noisy. And noise attracted... things.

She held up 6 fingers towards the woman, but didn't bother smiling as she normally would when playing the helpful and innocent street urchin. They were in the Alleys, any reasonable person would be cautious of a small child wandering alone through here, trying to act innocent would only make it even more suspicious.

She took a few small steps forward, testing how the woman would react.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her talons raked straight through the simple flesh, there wasn't even time for a counterattack before the figure was hurled groundward. She was a little disappointed that there hadn't been more to it, that she hadn't been able to enjoy herself for longer. But the storm was upon them now, there was no more time to play around.

She gave a slight nod of her head towards the ground, it had put up something of a resistance at least. They had Lived together for a short while, so she gave her thanks before beginning to bank towards where the Enemy had last been spotted.

She almost missed the first flash of light, dismissing it as more buildings catching alight from her passage. But this was a brighter flame than any building burned with. And not the dark purplish flames that the Rival had given off either.

She slowed her pursuit long enough to search the ground below, just as the flames suddenly magnified further, impacting with the ground and sending up a hail of fire a debris. A golden white flame blanketed the streets and in the center a figure slowly rose back up. It appeared different again that when had thrown it to the ground, but it was unmistakably the same creature as the one she called the Pretender.

And now it seemed that it was pretending to be her.

The figure on the ground stood back up, golden flames licking the ground around it and blasting rock and stone upwards in a very familiar display, she had done the same thing to the Enemy of Stone less than a minute ago after all. The figure raised a great scream as it finally reached its feet, staring back at her.

It was a good scream, not the meaningless babble of noises that the creatures on the ground usually made, nor entirely a scream of pain. It was a scream of life, a scream meant to challenge those who heard it.

So she raised a screech in response, weathering the hail of stone that flew towards her, and bursting back alight into the same golden flames.

She liked this Enemy.
