It's not fatal because you lose spirit. If the injury from the spike is healed, then the spiritual damage is still there- and yet, you could still live.

What makes you think you could steal from other places besides the heart? Is there a scene in Mistborn that I've forgotten?

You could still live with the spiritual damage but it's usually fatal, just like your physical body getting stabbed is usually fatal but not always. If you did survive Brandon has said you would be worse than a drab.

So, since I was doing other things.  Hemalurgy-when you spike, you place the spike in a place that determines which charge the spike gets.

If the heart was the only place to spike things out then there would be no way to choose which power you got. Atium steals everything so how would you determine specifically what was spiked out?

You can spike from different places in the heart.

If you survived it would be because your physical damage was healed, right?

Physical damage is one thing you'd have to survive but the spiritual damage is what really makes it. I believe Brandon has said at some point that no one in world knows how to spike someone without killing them at the moment.

Questioner

Hemalurgy, does the person having the metal shoved through them have to die?

Brandon Sanderson

It has to rip off a piece of their soul. That normally results in death.

And yes there are multiple bind points in the heart as well but also in other parts of the body.

Am I missing something? As far as I can see, there is no evidence that you can spike from anywhere but the heart.

The man shrugged. "That's not too big of a problem."

He put away the bloody spike.

Then he summoned a shardblade. He slammed it into the mans leg.

Bind points exist throughout the entire body, not sure why you think only the heart is usable. It is the most commonly spiked location for donors but is by no means the only one. You can see the table for more details.

shade? Bane grimaced. Not what he had been hoping for. He looked around. Three shades.

He watched as three scientists herded them downstairs with silver.

Bane shook his head. "Nothing helpful."

The scientists seemed cheerful this time. He heard "progress" and "epic-one power-investiture ratio".

But it didn't work. So Bane sat back down and drank a bit of orange. Nothing intoxicating on job.

Is Brandon’s word not good enough for you?

It would be, if I could find where he says that.

Nobody ever steals anything from anywhere but the heart in the books, if I remember correctly. And the chart shows where you place spikes once they are charged, not where you place them to charge them.

A small gap opened. Bane stepped forward, grinning.

It revealed a strange black, deeper then black. It almost...

seemed...

to...

draw...

He snapped himself out of the half trance. He could see a motion of sorts behind, but the gap was too small. It didn't work.

Dammit. So close.

He watched the scientists swarm around it, taking measurements, pictures, making calculations.

This was progress.

It would be ready soon. The Vortex would be his life's work.

Crow stood up, growling. She ignored the pale man, and turned towards the Space Marine.

A messenger ran up to the building, looking for anybody he could hand his message to. In the end he pressed the letter into the hand of the first official looking person he could find.

Spoiler

We've decided against supporting your cause.

(Below is the sign of the Ghostbloods)

Then he ran away again, as fast as he could.

Lita raised a hand at Kumiko. "It's no trouble," she said. "I'm Lita Attar, I'm a Twinborn." She sighed, looking back over her shoulder at the large PlasmaCore building.

So many secrets, a part of her whispered - that troublesome voice, the one that was her constant companion. There they sat, hunkered down like an old banker in his counting house greedily shining his coins. But she was a babe in the woods compared to these people. The ones who played this game could sling fire, burn holes through walls, change their soul even. For Lita had begun to suspect what kind of talents Laurelai was hiding under that cool porcelain veneer. Lita was woefully unprepared, newly recruited and only just having learned Alleytravel well enough to avoid killing herself and others. What kind of hope did she have to weasel secrets out of a vault like PlasmaCore, let alone the world?

No hope at all, Lita thought, irritated. At least, not in her current state. Twinborn were rare, but she may as well have just been a Tineye. Brass feruchemy was practical, sure, but what could she possibly do with it to keep herself safe? Short of being caught in some kind of fire, the best she could hope for was to die at a pleasant temperature. She stared at the little nails in her forearms. What had Mac called them? "Training wheels?"

"I'll need more than that if I'm to be of any use," she muttered to herself.  "Let's go," she said, louder now so both Okame and Kumiko could hear her. "I've got tea in my rooms if anyone wants some."

She stepped into the shade of the nearest alley and made sure the Horneater was following closely. Her hand brushed her pocket where the Stranger's coin sat heavy and cold. She remembered that eye like a night with no stars, and a too-wide smile full of jagged edges. She drew the coin out and the image of the world shimmered in the palm of her hand. Lita flipped it, caught it and looked again. The spiked skull grinned at her knowingly. Anything is attainable, but there is always a price

Lita pocketed the coin and sighed. It seemed it was time to start paying.

Sorry, completely forgot about this. Tea back in the alleys sounds good.

The three space marines, including Crow, disappeared in a flare of light.

---------------

Teleportation was far more reliable in this realm, without the influence of daemons and a hostile Warp. But travelling through the Sea of Souls was no easy task, especially if one had never done it before.

Azrael was counting on that.

Reality reestablished its dominance, the teleportarium of the Invincible Reason coming into focus. Dozens of Deathwing terminators stood around the teleportation pads, weapons readied, but they couldn't fire without damaging the priceless archotech that powered the teleporters. And Errant couldn't call upon his powers without doing the same. Crow would only be disoriented for a few more moments, and an extended fight could cause irreparable damage.

So Azrael did what he did best. He took the Sword of the Lion, grabbed it by the blade, and swung it into Crow's unarmored head, crossguard first.

Unbeknownst to them, Crow had practised. She had done this before, and she took advantage of it. She ducked, punching outwards towards Azrael.

Then... she tripped.

Dammit.

She hit the ground, and everything went dark.

That means different places within the heart, right? But I suppose it doesn't really matter for now.

The blade gashed Nekorb's leg. He let out a moan, too exhausted to even scream.

"Please," he begged. "Stop. I'll do whatever you want. Please..."

Most commonly spiked places are in the heart. I take that to mean most places to spike allomancy and make kandra or koloss are there, but anywhere can be  a bind point if there is running blood present.

A young boy stood, watching the giant battleship overhead. His features creased into a deep frown as he stared at it, eyes seeming intent on boring through the ships hull and revealing all of its secrets. A moment later the boy settled into a grim smile and he turned his attention back down to the ground. He watched the surrounding people who also stared at the giant ship, some running in fear, others standing petrified in place. A number of older civilians began whispering that the crusade had returned to raze the city once more. Everywhere he looked he saw anxious people.

Time to begin.

He turned towards a nearby Alley, his face seemed to blur as he did so, becoming a mask of indistinct gray, featureless.
