Taehia mentally snorted at the thought of sneaking around, used a common spy.

"She...does not like that idea very much."

Lita shrugged. “Well it would’ve been stupid of me not to ask.”

Who’s ruling who here? She thought, looking around for a food table. Okame’s talk of cooking had reminded her just how hungry she was.

Lena stepped up to the building, grinning widely. Finally something happened.

"Hey. I'm looking for work."

She told someone at the entrance and then saw a woman in a strange dress. Strange, but beautiful. Then she recognized Lita.

"I love that dress! You look fantastic, Lita."

She told her instead of a real greeting.

Lita looked around at her name, standing quickly. She smiled as she tried to recall the woman's face. There was a familiarity to it...

Lena, she realized, from the tavern. Rusts, that felt like weeks ago. Had it really just been two days? Lita's smile became more genuine, and she twirled her pen, sending a quick message describing the meeting.

"Lena," she said, slipping the pen back into her pocket. "Thank you. It was an unexpected find, but lucky. What brings you here?"

As she reached out to shake Lena's hand, she felt a little thrill go through her. Would she notice the tiny metal spikes in her forearms? Even if she didn't, it was pretty obvious she was sitting with the other DA representatives. Was this woman now her enemy? Was everyone here an enemy? One way to find out.

Lena shook Lita's hand as well, smiling as well. She noticed who Luta was sitting with, but she didn't care. She liked her.

"It sounded interesting. I don't know if I want to work for them or not, but now that the guy who blackmailed me is dead -"

She shrugged.

"I've got nothing to do at the moment. And I don't like to be alone, so, here I am."

Fetching two pancakes out of her pocket, she offered one to Lita, after a quick glance at the paper it was wrapped in.

"How are you?"

The Haunt swirled, a dust cloud shivering and a chill traveling through the air. “Everything’s going to plan,” he whispered.

“They will see.”

Alask looked at the large building in front of him, calling for people with unusual Investiture. Shez growled inside of him. Maybe a Shade counted as unusual.

Regardless, as most parties were, he needed to stay in control, to not be influenced by people breaking the rules.

So he stepped through the door and smiled as he tried looking at the people there, though his smile was fake, and in reality there was a lot going on he couldn’t handle.

Lita took the pancake and slipped it into her small purse. Lena seemed nice, but these days she was pretty wary of eating anything she hadn't prepared herself.

"Glad you got rid of your blackmail problem," she said. "I can relate." The memory of Forian lying dead on the floor floated briefly in her mind's eye.

"I'm well, all things considered," Lita continued, half an ear focused on the conversations around her. "Found myself a guild, got some new jewelry..." She looked at the little spikes in her forearms, smiling wryly. "Life seems to be looking up. Or at least, looking interesting. I do wonder what all the fuss is about here, though. As much as I love drinking Scadrian wine on someone else's tab, I'm eager to know the reason we're all here."

Lena continued to smile.

"That pancake is safe."

She remarked somehow happy that Lita didn't eat it right now. Only stupid people ate what she gave them without checking it first.

"It's good to hear, that you're fine, that you found a place where you belong."

Her face darkened and she shook her head again. She needed to offer him a future, a place to belong. But right now she had nothing. She was alone, and she hated being alone. Well except for some freaks, but she barely knew them.

"I know what you mean. It will be interesting to hear what they plan."

Alask stepped quietly through the crowd of people. Worry buzzed on his mind.

Laonin. The Man who Fixes.

He was gone.

Te entire Forge seemed to be dissapearing. He hadn’t heard anything from Ishek, Laonin himself, and the others. The last and only Forge member he’d even seen was Amon, who had gone away after their meeting with the Adoda girl.

And with almost no one running the Forge, it was beginning to collapse.

Sighing Alask turned, to see if there was anyone here he even recognised, and not just a crowd of strangers.

Nekorb pushed through the crowd of people. "Alask!" he cried, waving.

Alask turned and saw Nekorb and he couldn’t stop a smile from forming. “Nekorb!” He announced, jogging towards him and trying to dodge a particularly busy waiter.

“Man! How have you been?”

Galvris also followed through the gateway, knife in hand.  He prepared a weave of fire to defend Ciera, if need be.

Necromancer stepped through the open door, and cast a look into the room.  He turned to a random person, smiling, and that person jumped, spilling the drink in his hand.  Necromancer's face was perhaps the most frightening aspect of his body.  He was constantly shifting his age, his face going from grizzled veteran to a baby-faced youth in an instant.  His face was in constant flux, constantly changing, skin growing, thinning, reforming.  Hair greying, blackening, growing, shortening.  It was disconcerting to look at if one wasn't prepared.  As he walked through the room, he subtely aged everyone around him.  Everyone in his presence suddenly began to feel tired, old, creaky.  Once he passed out of range, they returned to their normal self.  He walked up to the receptionist, slowly aging her to about 74 years old.  He could only age one to within ten years of their death, where upon his power stopped abruptly.  The receptionist looked in astonishment at here wrinkled and liver-spotted hands.  Necromancer called her attention back to him when he said, "Excuse me, can you please tell me what's up with this job?"

The receptionist, who was about to lead Allak away, turned to him, exasperated. "Go into that room. There will be a speech."

Laurelai sat silently, her left hand twitched uncomfortably in her sleeve and quickly brushed against the items she'd kept in a Safepouch. They were convenient for avoiding searches, many people knew enough of Vorin culture not to insist that it be searched, but rusts these things felt confining. Still, at least Alethi had some nice fashions.

She'd picked out a nice blue dress, and the silver scrolling came out well, accenting the rest of the outfit nicely. But the tight waist and the low hem would make any attempt at running a futile effort. Thankfully she'd taken a leaf out of the Horneater's book and worn something else underneath, in an emergency it would only take a moment for her to drop the dress.

She watched the other attendees with interest, naming those she recognized and describing those she didn't. It seemed that there were a number of people interested in what this invitation was about, though the other guilds didn't seem to be sending much of a show of force.  Perhaps concerned that it was some kind of trap? She put that train of thought to the side for the moment, focusing on recording information for now. They could speculate later.

Sein Valn looked to dusk, and felt sorry for him. He knew all to well what being alone like that felt like. Feeling like everyone was against you.

He walked up to the man, clutching his knife in the case of an emergency. "Hello, you here for the job? What can you do?"

Sein Valn fingered in his pockets. Money. He had a lot. He was hoping to buy some friends.

"Fine. You want to see what I can do then?"

The door opens, and a line of green lights leads towards the table. A waiter stood there, waiting to lead her to her table.

Ciera walked up to the counter and knocked on it, her Well jingling.

"I'm here for the meeting. I'm from the Ghostbloods."

“That won’t help you with what’s coming,” a disembodied voice whispered. It was the Haunt.

Lita saw another set of representatives enter into the party hall and pulled her pen halfway out of her pocket, flaring her tin for a moment to get a better look at them. Ghostbloods, she was pretty sure. I shouldn't be talking right now, she thought. I need to get back up there and look around more before this speech begins. Her enhanced vision allowed her to pick out Okame and Laurelai sitting quietly, observing.

She turned back to Lena. "I hope things work out as neatly for you as they did for me," she said. "And we should grab a drink at that tavern again when things aren't so busy. But I should get back up to my seat before this speech starts. Thanks for the pancake!" @Sorana

Lita smiled apologetically, then turned and walked back up the tiered levels to her seat. She settled down between Okame and Laurelai, recording and sending descriptions of people and conversations she had heard or seen while speaking with Lena. That done, she settled back in her chair and sipped at her wine, closing her eyes and listening around herself. Those Ghostblood reps would likely start chatting soon, and though she could have picked out their voices down at a lower level, this was easier.

Rusts, she thought as the sounds of the party filled her ears. I wish I knew more of these people. She'd intended to spend some time researching the current political situation in the city before getting sent out on a mission. Going in blind like this was unfamiliar territory. Still, experience was the greatest teacher.

"Did you hear or see anything interesting while I was gone?" Lita quietly asked Okame, who was as still as a statue beside her. "Perhaps some food? Honestly, the menu was inside the invitation. You can't tease someone like that, it isn't right." @Invocation
