Leona took the sauce off the burner and set it down on the counter. It was steaming, spreading the delightful scent of garlic and tomatoes throughout the kitchen.

“Sauce is ready!” she called.

Flid got out a big plate and put all the meatballs on it, washed his hands in the sink, and went outside where the others where. "Hey! Food's almost ready! If you don't wanna starve, come and get some!"

Flid shrugged. "You guys can keep fighting, but the food'll get cold."

Ben looked over to Shana. She was bleeding, little stone blades sticking out of her body like she was a pin cushion. Something awful had been done to her shoulder. He felt another wave of guilt. All of her injuries were because of him, his weakness. He wished he had been the one to get hurt instead.

”Maybe we should stop or at least take a break?”

He desperately wanted to heal Shana, take her pain from her. It was all he was useful for, and he was determined to make up for all that Shana had suffered.

So Ark and Karger, you both want Skybreakers, then? I'll add you as soon as I've got profiles.

I don't plan to say anything until one of you says something again.

Oh! Sorry. I thought you were going to respond to my last post.

Now, the screamers in Oathbringer didn't respond to Shallan's Lightweaving (because it's 'quieter'), so I'm going to presume that your scanner won't either.

Draug! Voidbringers!

Draug's head shot up at Sae's exclamation. He turned and scanned the crowd, looking for the face of the Voidbringer he'd seen earlier.

There, in the gray.

Draug's eyes found the man Sae had mentioned. He swallowed. "They're here."

Sorry, I should've made that clearer.

I did my best not to look at the crowd, focusing just on Draug. "Can you show me where?"

Draug carefully avoided looking directly at the approaching Voidbringers. He made a slight gesture with his hand in the direction they were coming from.

Shana looked over at Rob and Sawyer and shrugged, wincing when she  mived her shoulder.

"I wouldn't mind to go on, but I guess that would be impolite."

She paused. She'd hoped they would come to the point where she had to use her surges, just like Rob did all the time. Learning fine control was one thing, and with Ben a different matter entirely, but she needed to get a grasp on them while someone tried to break her bones.

Doc grimaced, eyeing the Voidbringer. "What's our plan," he said in a low voice, "Do we make our stand here, or somewhere else?" He began to scan the line of waiting cars, busses, and vans outside, looking for a good vehivle.

Jamie finally found what she was looking for. She pulled a silver and black handgun out of her backback, along with two clips of ammunition. She jammed one clip into the gun and stuck the other one in her pocket.

"So, who are we killing?" she asked, scanning the crowds suspiciously.

Rob thought for a moment. “They went through all that effort to make something, I think we should eat.” He said. “We can call it a half-time break.”

He looked towards Shana, who had sharp blades of grass poking out of her. “Are you okay?”

"Half-time break sounds good."

Shana lowered her weapon and leaned it against the wall. Taking a deep breath she braced herself and then started to pull the grass blades out.

"I am. Don't worry."

"I never expected it to be that different. Usually I try to evade attacks, but then you would have hit Ben, so that didn't work."

She grimaced when she cut a finger on one of the blades and then let it fall to the ground.

"So that's two things I need to learn. How to effectively use my surges in a fight and how to fight in a team."

“I think you know how to use your surges,” Rob said, sitting down on a lawn chair. “But you don’t want to hurt people. With division alone, I’m sure you could vaporise me, and others. And I’m sure against a Voidbringer you’d do that. But with friends, I guess it’s harder to go full out.”

Shana froze, fell silent, then she slowly sat down next to him.

"Friends?"

She repeated and looked at his stoic face, then at Ben, smiling when she saw him.

"Doc always said, it was the Dustbringer's who fought for the others, who wrecked havoc among the lines of their enemies."

"I always have this picture in my mind, of this glorious warrior on a smoldering battlefield, the corpses of their enemies around them - and I'm afraid of it. Abrasion is easy, but Division? What if I mess it up, if I reach to far? What if I accidently hit Ben or you, or one of the others? It's not like I can repair it, I can't fix things, I can only destroy."

She reached out for a stool close by and then closed her hand, ripped it apart.

"It's so easy. It's harder to do it constantly, but something like a stool is so easy."

“That’s good, you don’t have difficulty actually using your surges, it’s just control,” Rob said. “Some people actually need training to use their surges with power, because they’re naturally weak.” He hummed for a minute.

“And you shouldn’t worry so much about us. Me, at least, others can speak for themselves, but we all have stormlight healing. So we could all heal from any mistakes you make. I don’t know, I’m not good at comforting people. I tend to just tell them to get over it and then leave.”

She laughed.

"But you're still here."

Tentatively she moved her shoulder, it was better, slowly, but it was getting better. He was right, they all could heal, especially with Ben around. The only time she had really attacked him, had been in the pool, when she panicked.

"So you would be alright, if I didn't hold back that much? I won't turn you to dust."

“Don’t hold back at all,” he said. “My second ideal was to stand where others fall. I guess that’ll really be putting it to the test, won’t it?”

He stood up. “Where did Flid say the food was.”

"Inside. Where we always eat I guess."

She got to her feet as well and walked over to Ben, offering him her hand.

"Let's go inside?"

She asked him, unsure if he was alright with them walking in there together or if he prefered to keep it in the background. She was alright with either, as long as he was comfortable with the situation.

Ben took her hand, healing her remaining injuries. She probably could have healed them in time with stormlight, but he did want her to feel any more pain. He was happy she wanted to hold his hand- it would prevent anyone else from mistaking James for his boyfriend.

”Sure.”
