What kind of Savant? What side effects?

She’s a Twinborn but the main metal she tends to abuse is Tin. Currently she isn’t a Savant, she’s just burning lots of tin at a high rate, so she hasn’t really been permanently altered. If I move her in this direction it will be a slow process, I want to show the whole progression. At moment her negative effects are mental. I’ve decided that her own specific character would make her increasingly cold, clinical and detached from the world around her with extended tin use. This is a personal choice though. We shall see what I do with Lita in time.

What Exactly is voidmaking?

It’s a power that voidus and a few other high ranking DA members have that enables them to negate investiture and do a few other things.

Generally speaking it’s not very powerful unless you are able to power it directly with the power of voidus.

Other things would be?

I would suggest PMing voidus for more information, it’s his creation and in the past he has wanted to keep information close to his chest about it so that it can be revealed in RP.

I would also caution against creating a character with the ability to use voidmaking because unless they are sanctioned by voidus he will try to kill them, which tends to be extremely difficult to avoid.

@MacThorstenson/@Voidus I figure one of y'all has an answer for this. How many points off would severe amnesia rate? Like amnesia being they only remember their name and base functions.

It's going to be somewhat character dependent, probably not a huge amount though given that mechanically speaking it's not going to be hugely detrimental. Maybe a -15.

It depends on how it’s used.

Severe amnesia is often used as a crutch to get around having a deep character with a well thought out background.

Anyone who attempts to use it in that way I will heavily encourage to add more depth to their character.

I'm tempted to disallow based on this alone :P

But looks fine, not often we get completely unInvested characters. Approved :)

Yeah. It isn't the typical.

But Eve and Gonev also are uninvested...

It's a giant post, takes a while for the edit to go through and update. Should be good now though. :)

@Ax's device What are you doing?

At least you can delete them now. :P

Hello all! I've decided that I want to push Lita into tin savantism in this next Era, and I'm wondering how she would be re-scored, how much would be power increase and how much would be weakness, etc. I'd like to get this pre-approved so I can just write her in a natural, real-time progression through this process. Any input would be helpful, also in how this would probably up the significance of any kind of resonance her twinborn powers might give her (A-Tin, F-Brass [heat]).

Pinging mods but really, any input is welcome here! I'm excited to RP the whole process. ^_^

Hello,

so I've got a few questions regarding Althea. I've spend some time calculating her again and again, and I'd like to have some feedback at this point.

Her oaths are:

  1. Life before...
  2. I will stand up for those I am responsible for. (atm that's every GB, the city, Oasis, everybody around Oasis, everybody with connections to the GBs // what I mean with that oath is, that she will try to protect them, find a way for them to lead a good life, adress problems when they need to be adressed, and yes it goes as far as sacrificing herself, should it be neccessary)
  3. I will offer a path to those trapped in darkness. (mostly rp)
  4. I will accept my emotions, but not let them control me. (mostly rp, was logical due to her development)

I tentatively would substract some 25-30 points for all of them? The first one is 5 according to the index, so I would set 3 and 4 as 5 as well, makes 15, so 10-15 for number 2. Is that completely off?

Is it possible to substract some points for not having a fighting skill? Because she theoretically has blade and plate, but no idea what to do with that.

Thank you.

A question for the moderators: I was wondering what it would take for my character, Aln, to swear the third ideal. She's currently a second ideal Truthwatcher, with the obligatory first ideal, and her second ideal as "I will seek knowledge wherever it can be found". I don't have a planned moment where I want her to swear the next ideal but I want to be ready for the possibility in case it makes narrative sense. My current idea for what her third oath will be is "I will hold truth above lies, and understanding above ignorance". This oath would restrict her ability to lie, so that would probably balance some of the power advancement, but what else would I need? It's a pretty big jump from second to third, even if Aln would very rarely use her Shardblade.

My current character sheet is here:

Spoiler

Name: Alanis Sheneth (Goes by Aln)

Physical Characteristics/appearance: Aln is short, reaching only 5’1”, and has a slight build. She’s 26 years old. She has short, slightly curly brown hair, and brown eyes. She wears a long brown coat (down to her knees) with lots of pockets, as well as a simple white button-up and tan trousers.

Investiture: Knight Radiant, a Truthwatcher of the 2nd Oath. She has also visited the Nightwatcher (see weakness).

Skills: She’s very intelligent/borderline genius, a very skilled scholar, and an excellent historian. She’s passable in sketching, but hopeless at every type of music (See weakness). Aln has no training in combat, preferring to observe rather than participate.

Equipment: She carries no weapons, although she does keep a small knife in a pocket for sharpening her pencils. She carries several small worn volumes from Roshar, each discussing Investiture, Shards, philosophy, or the nature of the universe, in a satchel at her side. In her pockets she has large numbers of pencils and reed pens, as well as a Spanreed pen in a case (linked to one back on Roshar, owned by her brother) and a few other spanreeds that link her to her guild. Several notebooks, filled with small, dense writing, occupy the rest of her satchel, and loose paper, coins, invested spheres, and other small objects fill her remaining pockets.

Weakness: Aln is completely deaf. However, she can still interact with others well, as her visit to the Nightwatcher granted her the boon that she can see speech. She has no way of noticing other sounds, but words appear as small black letters floating around the speaker, dissipating after a few minutes. These words have no substance, but are entirely illusionary, similar to lightweaving.  In addition to the boon, Aln was granted a curse; the better she knows someone, the harder it is to use Investiture around them. This includes her method of seeing speech, so the words fade over time, eventually becoming invisible. She tends to get lost in thought easily, pondering scholarly concepts, and can often be rather oblivious to her surroundings.

Family: Her brother, two years older than herself, is the only family member she’s in contact with. Her parents and younger sister survive, but she has not spoken to them since she was 15. However, she’s extremely close to her brother, Torenat.

Home Planet: Roshar

Backstory: Aln was born to a small darkeyed family of the second nahn in the Thanadal Princedom. She was born deaf, and as such was very socially isolated throughout her life. Her family was kind to her, but only her brother Trent made a real effort to connect, even learning how to read and write in secret so that they could communicate. She herself studied frequently at the ardentia, spending nearly all of her time reading, writing, and studying as a child. It was expected that she would become an ardent as soon as she was old enough. However, shortly before Aln’s 15th birthday, her parents discovered Trent writing with Aln, and were furious. Despite being darkeyed, Aln’s mother believed strongly in the lighteyed ideals of feminism and masculinism, and told Trent that he was no longer welcome in their home. He was also rejected by the nearby ardentia, and was so forced to leave the town and enlist in the military to fight on the shattered plains. Aln was left nearly entirely alone, unable to communicate with anyone around her. It was around this time that she discovered that she was a surgebinder.

She kept it hidden for nearly a month, but her parents eventually found out. Afraid of her powers, they contacted the Vorin church, but before Aln could be investigated she ran away, travelling for weeks, alone, to find her brother. Eventually she reached the Shattered Plains, and discovered that he had managed to acquire a job as a lookout, with terrible pay but relative safety. He told her of stories he had heard of the Nightwatcher, and they set off together to find her. She only hazily remembers the encounter, but her boon and curse are described above. She still could not see her brother’s words, but they still wrote, and finally she could understand people. The two travelled around Roshar for nearly a year afterwards, working odd jobs to earn the bare minimum to survive.

When they returned to the Shattered Plains, Trent was reassigned as a common foot soldier. He was wounded on only his second plateau run, and was left barely able to walk. He was deemed unfit for duty, but secured a job as a mediocre cook for his former troop. Not too long after, Aln discovered the Alleyverse, but was hesitant to leave her brother behind and enter what was literally an entire new world. Torenat urged her onward, using his savings to buy a spanreed, and she left, swearing her Second Oath in the process. She entered the Alleyverse with the mission to learn as much as she could about the true nature of the suddenly much larger universe.

She then spent nearly 10 years travelling the various worlds that surround the Alleyverse

Guild: She leads The Scholar's Guild

Psyche/personality: She’s very intelligent and scholarly, loving to ponder deep and complex problems. She’s very hesitant to make personal connections with people, but she converses freely with those that she doesn't know very well. She gets very involved in scholarly debates, and has a stubborn streak that makes her unwilling to back down in the face of adversity. She's very compassionate, but also very practical, and she tends to put her research above anything else.

Hey Rushu, we are looking at this, and over the next few days will be reading through Alns posts, but are there any major moments that you want us to look at for seeing character developement?

I'm not sure. By nature of her personality, most of Aln's character development happens internally, and I didn't feel much need to write it out. Probably the best place to look, though, would be her ongoing interactions with John Redleaf and others in the current main plot. If you need any further information, I'm happy to send you some of my thoughts on her personality and relationships. Thank you!
