I always wonder what a 1% status bar might indicate for a writer like Brandon.

It could be anywhere from "the book will be 1200 pages and I've now fleshed out the 12 page prologue, so, 1%", or it could be a non-empty file with just

Stormlight Archive 4: "TITLE???"

by Brandon Sanderson, (c) 2019

in the upper left, like so many of my own papers/stories would remain for days or weeks on end back in school. ("Hey, it's more than 0, so I guess it's 1% done!")

Could be, yeah. Is it based on word count or just overall completion? We may never know!

Up to 2% completed, now try to postulate what that means =)

Well if the book is less than 50 chapters, it means that he’s finished a chapter.

I'm a fan of the page count theory, especially as Brandon gave a reading (linked earlier in this tread) and he ended off by saying that the rest of the chapter is a real mess.

So assuming about 1200 pages for book 4, I think we're up to 24 pages done!

Brandon talks about word count a lot (a lottt) in this context, enough that I generally assume his percents are out of the total projected word count for the finished product. Dunno if I'm necessarily right, but it makes an amount of sense.

My theory is that it is the amount of his projected outline that he has turned into actual draft.

The bar is at 3% now!!!

This wait is slowly killing me.

Brandon just gave an update on Reddit! Check it out. He mentioned that 1% is roughly 4000 words

After some consideration, I’ve changed my mind to

Arc 1: Kaladin, Adolin, Shallan, Szeth

Arc 2: Venli, Rlain, Eshonai as flashback

Arc 3: Jasnah, and someone else. (I just want Jasnah to do an Aimia expedition)

Renarin seems like the obvious choice.

5%!!!

He mentioned 1% is 4000 words, and he’s behind right now. I imagine he’s making a push to get back on track

Aaaaand we hit double digits. What is that man doing right now? Hexing the keyboard?

I'm happy he's making such progress. I have no idea how he's managing it, but I'm happy he is.

*Brandon discreetly tucks wand away*

He's either pushing himself really hard or he's having a LOT of fun with what he's writing right now. I hope it's the latter.

That is, of course, if he doesn’t acccidntally get distracted and write a whole new Ashyn trilogy to warm up and decides to publish it :P

Honestly, I think it would be worth it
