Fred smiled. "I will do nothing to you while you are in there. It will scan you so we don't have to spend a day on your check up. Now, get in or I will kill you."

He doesn't know about spiritweb scanning, right?

Guys, this may be needing a new thread at this point, I'd like to keep this one related to the original experiment until it's completed.

So a new thread relating to me and Fred's conversation?  Also, I'm never gonna be able to tell ark and you apart now.  I think that's ark...

Valdwen sighed, but complied and climbed into the chamber.

The machine scanned his entire spiritweb. "Hmm. Sorry to hear about the inquisitors, and your parents. You know you are a unique case, correct? No other allomancer-feruchemist crossbreed exists. Well, can I please take some genetic samples?"

In character Fred is easily distracted, so unless Mac tells him not to he will stay this way.

"Thanks," KoTiel said. They opened up their notebook and showed it to Laurelai. "The thing I'm currently working on is a way for me to create a new body for myself. As for why I want to do this, lets just say I've got a couple of issues with my spiritweb, thanks to Mraize, and I need a way to get rid of it, but given what he did I can never be sure if I've gotten all of it. So my idea was to create a new body and transfer my memories, which will give me a new spiritweb. Transferring the memories will be easy, I've got a couple of tricks for that as a Kandra, but the issue is avoiding conflicts between my memories and the new body, which is where I'll need your help."
They paused for a bit, turning a couple of pages. "The results of this conflict becomes clear in an older attempt to do this by Mac. In his case it failed both because of memory degradation as well as the fact that the new body already had their own memories and identity, which caused him to manifest as a separate personality, and eventually ended with Macs personality dying."
"Now this is where you come in," They said, pointing at a design on the next page. "Kandra do not naturally have sapience. Specifically, we do have it, but a blockade between our cognitive self and the rest of us prevents from actually being sapient. To fix this, we need our blessings, a pair of specially made spikes. The important part here is that these blessings still give us abilities, and it is even possible for blessings to grant allomantic or feruchemical abilities, although this normally doesn't happen. What I want to do is to use essence spikes as blessings, with the essence spikes turning the new Kandra into a blank slate, without any form of personality or identity that might interfere with the integration of the memories. I believe that your skill with essence spikes and forgery is more than enough to do this.
The second thing I'm looking into depends on your biology knowledge though." KoTiel went to the next page, which was filled with diagrams of enzymes and cells. "One of the main drawbacks to our shapeshifting abilities is that we can't create things like bone, hair, and nails. The reason for this is actually biological in nature, so not something that a simple spike, or more experience with shapeshifting will fix. However, I thing I've worked out a basic modification that can be applied to the body that will allow it to digest these substances, and then regrow them in different forms, as well as repair them. Minor things like hair and nails should even be able to grow in the same way as for humans.
Now, the way I want to apply this is through what I call Blessings of Bone. A bit of a melodramatic name perhaps, but it does say what they do. The idea is that'll modify the spiritweb in a way that gives my body the necessary cells and enzymes. Of course, the issue is finding a way to apply this modification. I actually hoped you might have an idea for how to do this, though my initial idea was to rewrite the exact way in which the body was created, though I'm not sure how viable this is."
KoTiel looked back up from their notebook. "Sorry if this is a bit much all at once, but do you think you're able to help me?"

"Thank you, it's partially a result of my allomantic and feruchemical strength that I escaped the inquisitors," Valdwen said.  He then turned towards the one talking.  "So you basically want to make yourself into a complete dakhor monk, bone ridges and all?  I've never seen a kandra with that type of body.  Might be interesting."

I'm assuming they left the vicinity for this discussion, so going to skip over the interruption.

Laurelai nodded along as KoTiel spoke, a slight frown forming as she thought through the problem.

I guess common sense isn't something that really exists here. She thought idly. Creating an entirely new body, a new spiritweb, transferring memories?

Much of it was outside the realm of her own expertise, but the copperminds she'd been given filled in the gaps in her knowledge, and her Zinc helped her reconcile that knowledge with her own experiences.

"I'll admit some of the biology here is a little beyond me." She noted. "I studied for some time back at the Waystop but it was nothing this complex. I'm no expert."

A sudden thought jolted her upright.

"But give me a sec and I can become one."

A small tweak to where she'd spent her time, pursuing biology and natural science instead of Investiture, her interest in animals had been a strong motivator.

She felt her mind click as the changes set in, a wealth of new knowledge and experience shifted into her mind, replacing other knowledge.

She looked towards the notebook, concepts that had made no sense previously were trivial now.

She barely recognized that she'd turned invisible. It would wear off in a while probably.

After perusing the notes for a moment she nodded.

"Well I can see what needs to be done, as for how... just wait a moment."

Another click, a small wave of vertigo as her mind rearranged itself again back to normal.

"The initial biology dates back to the start of the Final Empire, I wouldn't be able to change something like that with a Stamp. But are you familiar with the effects that the Alleystorm has with Hemalurgic creations?" Laurelai asked.

She didn't wait for an answer, her speech picked up speed in her excitement.

"If we could find something that may conceivably have been affected, we could create a spike which could then be Forged to have an appropriate history, changing a piece of a Soul is easier than the whole soul. After that, if we could obtain a Mistwraith then I think there's a way that I could do what you ask, based off of the research we're doing here. But I'd like to test a few more things ideally, I'm not completely sure how stable these are going to be."

KoTiel blinked when Laurelai suddenly disappeared. "What," they thought, when they heared her talk again. "Invisibility? Ah, right, her bane." They focused back on the conversation, tapping zinc to help analyze what she was saying. "Yes, that could work," they told her when she finished talking, smiling at her. "In that case, you'll also have more time for these tests for the bone spikes, since I'd have to get the identity spikes first anyway, given that the body needs to mutate in the storm, and since Mistwraith aren't hemalurgic creatures the storm wouldn't work on them." They started nodding. "How long do you think you'll need for the identity spikes?" They asked her. "Getting access to a proper mistwraith body would probably take me at least a week anyway, so you'd have that amount of time anyway."
They thought for a bit. "Depending on the facilities here I might actually create the mistwraith myself, instead of capturing one. It should allow for better control of how good the body is in shapeshifting. I might even be able to add the ability to actually grow hair and mend bones into it, although actually growing new bones would probably be a bit too difficult to add." They turned to Mac. "Hey Mac, do you know anything about facilities for genetic manipulation and cloning? Perhaps with allomantic cadmium equipped incubation chambers?"

Valdwen inconspicuously walked over to the cabinet and began nonchalantly rifling through it.  He at last pulled out five or six copper spikes, and casually put them into a flask of blood to preserve them.  He then slung it over his shoulder and waved to the others as he walked out.  He hoped the others wouldn't notice, but they probably did.  Well then, he hoped that they wouldn't miss five mental fortitude spikes.  Once he was clear of the alley, he compounded steel and took off at a run.  By combining allomancy and feruchemy, he was able to speed up his jumps and so the result was exceptionally fast travel.

Did you just try to rob the DA?

Yes, and if nobody minds, it appears that I succeeded.  It wasn't technically robbing, sense the spikes don't actually leave ownership of the DA.  The character that intends to use them is part of the DA.

Yes but if someone who isn't a member of the DA tries to take them without this fact being communicated then that someone is about to be in a lot of pain.
Assuming Mac didn't just warp his head off.

Well, its not actually leaving property of the DA, and nobodies gonna miss five copper  spikes.  I was just getting impatient.  I'll rewrite it if you actually want me to not take them.

Improper grammatical error. (Is a triple negative a positive?)

So, given that continuing the actual experiment will probably take a while, does anybody have an idea for wrapping this up, or suspending it?

Again, that doesn't matter if no one knows that. No we wouldn't miss 5 spikes but we also wouldn't let people just take them either.

I'm fine with you trying to take them but your character would 100% die before making it out with them. If you don't want that then yeah rewrite sounds good.

Fade to black?

I can try and post something later.

Alright. After that I'll probably create the thread for my own experiment, is that alright? If you want to you can godmod KoTiel a bit to create a good conclusion to the conversation, and allow for the fade out. Otherwise it'll probably take at least two more days to actually wrap this up.

How about this?

Valdwen addressed Fred, "I hope you don't mind me taking a few spikes.  Just some copper ones full of mental fortitude.  Now, I would make my own, but I really don't know anyone with great mental fortitude, as we're all a little insane down here in the alleyverse."

I really didn't feel like editing my old post because it's a little buried.

As Mac seemed to be busy, Jeffrey moved towards KoTiel before responding.

"Of course, those should be in the Division of BioEngineering. Just past Alley 34512 and to the left of Alley ╔══╦╦═╬═" He said, motioning out of the room.

As he left to escort KoTiel, he took a suspicious glance at Vakdwen before muttering into his collar.

A moment later, someone else from decontamination showed up, seeming to be entirely identical to Jeffrey, only with a large amount of blood dripping from his shoulder.

"Spikes are for approved personnel only I'm afraid" He remonstrated, moving to replace the spikes in their compartment.

===================================

Laurelai continued muttering to herself as she read through notes, both physical and those that she drew from the memories that had been given to her. She didn't notice as Kotiel left to acquire the body they would need.

Alright, I'm going to need some time and space for this. Maybe a few more subjects. This work is too exciting to pretend to be polite anymore. If I'm going to master the ability to change who I am then I need to be able to do that without Forgery as well.

She straightened her back, looking over the room with cold eyes.

"We need some space here, can anyone not assisting with the experiments please leave. And we'll need some additional subjects too, if we only test on this one we won't be able to generalize the results as well."

She turned towards the, surprisingly still compliant subject. Mentally she ran through a list of possible permutations for the stamps she would need.

"Please stay still. This may be a little jarring. Testing permutation A-1."

It may take some time, but she would find what she needed to know. That was what science was about after all.

Valdwen looked towards the woman who seemed to be in charge.  "Ahh, of course.  I will soon leave.  However, you might suggest to me a place where I could gather some mental fortitude.  For expiramental purposes, of course."
