Hello Everyone,

Let's see... I always have a hard time figuring out what to write in these kinds of threads... Just like I spent at least half an hour trying to decide what my username should be before I actually registered to be a member here! Anyway, I decided upon the name WindSpren and, well, here I am!

I first started reading Brandon's books after my research mentor at the University of Florida (Go Gators!!) gave me the Mistborn Trilogy for my birthday. He happened to have two sets of the books, and figured I would enjoy them since I love to read! He also suggested the Wheel of Time series to me, but at the time I was about to start my senior year of college and didn't want to get into a huge series. Alas, I loved the Mistborn series, and after which I read Elantris and Warbreaker. Unfortunately, I read them all so fast that I was only a few months into my senior year so I proceeded to start the WoT series anyway. Point being, I loved all of Brandon's books! I just (actually just a few minutes ago!) finished Way of Kings for the second time. The first time, I read the hard cover, and I just finished listening to it on audiobook. It is amazing how despite reading/listening to the book twice already, I still feel like I could read it several times more and continue to pick up on new things that I didn't notice before. I can't wait until he is able to continue work on the Stormlight Archive!! I have also preordered the Alloy of Law, and am looking forward to that coming out too! Of course I feel obligated that I am also not-so-patiently waiting for A Memory of Light to come out as well... :)

I am excited about posting some of my questions and theories on this forum, however it might take me a little while to go through what you guys have already posted. I don't want to sound like a broken record asking about things that have already been gone through in detail!

What else.. hmm.. I have my Bachelor's degree in Microbiology and am working at the Kennedy Space Center in a research lab. I am/will be taking night classes for the next chunk of time in preparation for applying to grad school for Biomedical Engineering. I enjoy photography, dancing, singing, watching movies and silly scifi shows, but most of all, I love reading!

Thanks! And I hope to join into some interesting conversations soon! B)

Yes I do! In fact, one of the labs I worked in earlier this year sent up experiments with the last two space shuttle launches called "squids in space" it was awesome! :D And thank you very much!

That is just TOO COOL!!!:blink:<_<

Wow, yeah, that's really freaking awesome. I think you officially have one of the coolest jobs out of anybody here. Also, welcome to a fellow Floridian! I'm doing my undergrad at FAU right now, down in Boca Raton.

Cephalopod? Wow, you're right. Spellcheck nabbed that right away. And of course they need to be pursued! Cephalopods in space are no laughing matter. Can you imagine what the ink alone would do to life on the surface? Talk about your widespread blackouts.

Space squids, eh? That sounds like something science certainly NEEDS to pursue.

cephalopods are awesome, space is awesome, therefore cephalopods in space must be extra awesome. (yes Firefox, that is a word)

You guys are awesome! :D Widespread blackouts = no good... learning about the symbiotic relationship between squid and the bacteria they carry that have bioluminescence capabilities and how microgravity affects that relationship, then using all of this as a model for how microgravity might affect human-bacteria symbiotic relationships = good... erm, or is that getting to technical? ;)

Cephalopod.

It seems google chrome doesn't like it either :P

The recommendations:

Cephalic.

Hydrocephalus.

Encephalitis.

Encephalitic.

it wasn't too technical for me, it was interesting, I'd never have thought that microgravity might affect that sort of thing.

also, Firefox doesn't recognize microgravity as a word either. It wants to hyphenate it.

I really, really hope you did. Also: Cephalopod. My only recommendation is Encephalopathy.

    en·ceph·a·lop·a·thy
       /ɛnˌsɛfəˈlɒpəθi/
    (noun) Psychiatry .
    any brain disease.

Um. Okay then. Apparently our cephalopods now have brain disease.

Cephalopods in space?

That makes me think of the Great Old Ones.

Kill them now. Kill them quickly.

And welcome to the forums!

Windspren, I can imagine right now, you in your lab, doing something like this:

I love this!!! We like to find funny comics by them to post in our cubicles :-)

Wait. So you have spacealopods AND cubicles covered in XKCD comics? I knew the space center must be an awesome place to work, but dang! You wouldn't also happen to have cubicles filled with ThinkGeek merchandise, would you?

I LOVE think geek! That, and w00t shirts! I showed one of my coworkers the think geek website a couple of months ago and she said she was so impressed, she wanted to buy all of her christmas presents for people from that website! :D
