goody153 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 (edited) Like the title suggest what were the most surprising moments for you or events that made you go "wait what" from reading Cosmere series. (Sanderson excels on this one). Mine are below Warbreaker Spoiler When Siri literally tells the GodKing "get on with it" and then she(and the readers) remember what a bad idea she just did. Spoiler You would think that after Denth duping you. You won't get tricked anymore by enemies pretending to be friends but Bluefingers happened and i did not see it coming. Mistborn: The Final Empire Spoiler Kelsier casually strolling in and telling everybody he destroyed the Pits of Hatsin Spoiler Marsh going full NOBODY EXPECTS THE INQUISITION at the end fight. Mistborn: Well of Ascension Spoiler Zane showcasing knowledge over duralumin (it was weirdly a "wait what" ) more than Tensoon revealing he is the traitor. Spoiler Vin getting duped by Ruin at the end lol Mistborn: Heroes of Ages Spoiler Elend pulling out a book in the middle of his dance with Vin. Spoiler Vin's earrings (literally cursed at the moment of it's reveal) Spoiler On his Arms (nuff said) Wax and Wayne: Alloy of Law Spoiler "It was a dynamite, Wayne." moment Wax and Wayne: Shadows of Self Spoiler Marasi telling MeLaan that "Kelsier also ascended" and MeLaan going "i didn't know that" Spoiler Of course it's Lessie How did i not see that coming. Wax and Wayne : Bands of Mourning Spoiler The speartip is the bands. I really need to get used to Sanderson's chekov's gun implementations Mistborn: Secret History Spoiler Did Kelsier just punch god in the face ? Spoiler Kelsier going "You are a part of my crew and i have a plan !" to Preservation himself. Yes you heard it correct. PRESERVATION, A SHARD OF ADONALSIUM. RUIN'S EQUAL And technically his creator and god too. SA: Way of the Kings Spoiler Shallan has been eating poison for a long time lmao (Kabsal ) Spoiler That reveal when Syl brought the suicide-leaf because she thought it would make Kaladin happy and well avoid suicide. (that was both really heartwarming and cure as well as "WHAT" moment) Spoiler The kholins aren't the only who got duped by Sadeas. Me as well. Spoiler Elhokar getting smacked like a child by Dalinar lmao Spoiler Dalinar giving up the shardblade for the bridgemen. I just went "did you just ? What the ? asiudohasdjkhaskd" Spoiler Taln's reveal. SA: Words of Radiance Spoiler Mr. T badass reveal that he owns the stone to Szeth Spoiler Dalinar going "I'm going to reform the Knights Radiant". The entire room Dalinar wasn't the only one who stood up when that moment came. Spoiler The reveal that Adolin had to fight 4 shardbearers LMAO Spoiler And she smiled anyways. (i shivered in a bad way reading that part) It was more surprising in a disappointing way like "Really, Kaladin?". Kaladin who literally went through hell thinks that Shallan was impressive. SA: Oathbringer Spoiler Odium casually appearing in of the vision sequence of Dalinar. Like literally standing beside him watching the view Spoiler Azure saying a color-metaphor making made me realize that she's a Nalthais character(i was really proud of that moment as i was so sure she's a worldhopper) Spoiler Adolin and co realizing that they're in shadesmar. Spoiler Syl is basically one of the most important lighteyes in shadesmar. Spoiler Odium accepting the challenge of champions. And Dalinar is the champion loooooool Spoiler I. AM. UNITY. Spoiler The skybreakers siding Odium. Well Szeth casually saying that Skybreakers are Odium's and him walking around like he belonged in Urithru Spoiler Taln thanking Ash for prolonging his torture(i mean it was awesome but WHAT) I just realized upon writing this that i got duped by Sanderson more than any other authors. What your "you got duped" moments ? Edited August 2, 2018 by goody153 5
Steel Inquisitive he/him Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 ALL of Mistborn.... Sanderson had me at every turn 2
imriel452 Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 When I was proofreading WoR and we hear the best phrase ever: ”Would you like to destroy some evil” 5
Wander89 he/him Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 (edited) So. Many. Moments. Basically the most surreal moments were definitely: Mistborn: The Final Empire When Kelsier was killed, that moment was completely unexpected and absolutely heart-breaking. I loved Kelsier's journey and was aghast when he was simply killed. The Stormlight Archive: Words of Radiance "Honor is dead, but i'll see what I can do." When Kaladin strolled by and helped Adolin fight the four shardbearers, that truly summed up what I thought of him. There are so many aspects to Stormlight Archives alone that I could quote but I simply do not have the time right now haha Edited August 2, 2018 by Wander89 Word added 4
Fanghur Rahl he/him Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Era 1 Mistborn was basically the ultimate reversal of expectation as far as Vin and Ruin were concerned; the whole second book has you worrying that Vin would be tempted to keep the power of the Well and screw the world up even more, but then it turns it on its head by revealing that it’s actually releasing the power that screws the world up by releasing Ruin. 1

It’s then ever further revealed that this was actually planned all along and Ruin just had the ultimate prank pulled on him and his release was actually his downfall. The plot twists at the end of each book in the trilogy are so dang good.

And then the Ascended Sazed saying that Rashek, the Lord Ruler, ultimately had been a man with good intentions who had done the best he could, and had contributed mightily to the survival of mankind, with his work over hundreds of years of gathering and hiding atium from Ruin and preparing the storage caverns. A divine Sazed, who had been castrated and whose people had been enslaved and bred like cattle by one of their own for many of those hundreds of years, and who had been a key part of the crew who had overthrown him, judged him thus. And the same thing with the Ascended Vin, who recalled Rashek's last words, "You don't know what I do for mankind", while thinking, "And we didn't. Thank you." If Rashek was never the Hero of Ages, it seems he was at least the Hero of An Age, for all his cruelty and megalomania. 3
supersmith Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Spoiler The fact that humans were viodbringers. Looking back I don’t know how I missed it but I almost dropped the book with shock.

It hit me right in the face but didn't know until later on and felt stupid for not realising!

Looking back I don’t know how I missed it but I almost dropped the book with shock. Spoiler I always suspected it. Parshendi Always fit Roshar way better than humans. Mistborn: Tintwhyls death. I actually liked her because she was a good but hard to personally like character. Her death and Sazed's reaction to it messed me up for quite some time. When Vin defeated Zane on atium without atium. I'm still not really convinced that wasn't a massive copout/plothole. And of course the earring thats a hemalurgic spike that keeps the mists away. The attention to detail was brilliant. Stormlight: Jasnah beeing stabbed in the heart. I had to put the book down and do something else. It robbed me of every hipe she would come back. The Parshmen beeing enslaved voidbringers. Because of reasons in the spoiler above i never thought of the parshmen as evil.
