EmanEmal he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) So I've seen lots of threads about favorite characters and the like, but here I ask the question what is your favorite thing? Shardblades don't count because you know reasons >_> also it has to be a specific thing like Hoid's flute and not a general thing like rocks or something My favorite is Kaladin's belt knife of last resort, the one he is always pointing at people who are probably about to kill him, and that he makes that shardbarer yield with in the arena. Special mention to the part where he drops it at the end of the book, that was just so perfect and it marked how totally out of gas he was. It was amazing. That knife is so cool, just imagine if it was able to talk and it was chilling with the other knives and it would be all "and then the assassin in white just bolted into the sky, screaming, at the sight of my pure awesomeness." and then the other knives would be all kinds of impressed and crown him as their king and build him a throne made out of knife blades and sharp stuff and the belt knife would sit in it and rule over all knives as king of the pointy things. the end. So tell me, what do you think is the best thing in the storm light archives? but you should know that your wrong it's Kaladin's knife. Edited March 26, 2014 by EmanEmal 10
Popular Post Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) I'm sure it's on a lot of people's mind so I'll go ahead and nominate stick as the coolest inanimate object in stormlight. I mean, Shallan prides herself on her cleverness but stick soundly trumps her with his argument of "I am stick". Genius in its simplicity. Plus, he is about the only object with its own coppermind page so just saying... Edit: on a side note, I think that page really deserves an exemplary designation. It's about as well written and complete as they come. Edited March 26, 2014 by Awesomeness Summoned 36
The Rooster he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Going Cosmere here. Koloss Sword alternate name Straffbane. Nuff said. 8
Popular Post Bramble Thorn Posted March 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2014 When I saw the title I thought it was about the "I am a stick" stick from when Shallah was trying to start a fire. Because that stick was awesome, and I really hope she kept that stick. But what hit me even more in WoR is the following passage. The Wind’s Pleasure . A ship that had been cared for, loved. It had carried its passengers well foryears and years, owned by Tozbek and his father before him. An old ship, but not ancient, stillreliable. A proud ship. It manifested here as a sphere. It could actually think. The ship could think. Or . . . well, it reflected the thoughts of the people whoserved on it, knew it, thought about it.“I need you to change,” Shallan whispered to it, cradling the bead in her hands. It was too heavy forits size, as if the entire weight of the ship had been compressed to this singular bead.“No,” the reply came, though it was Pattern who spoke. “No, I cannot. I must serve. I am happy.”Shallan looked to him.“I will intercede,” Pattern repeated. “. . . Translate. You are not ready.”Shallan looked back to the bead in her hands. “I have Stormlight. Lots of it. I will give it to you.”“No!” the reply seemed angry. “I serve.”It really wanted to stay a ship. She could feel it, the pride it took, the reinforcement of years ofservice.“They are dying,” she whispered.“No!”“You can feel them dying. Their blood on your deck. One by one, the people you serve will be cutdown.”She could feel it herself, could see it in the ship. They were being executed. Nearby, one of thefloating candle flames vanished. Three of the eight captives dead, though she did not know whichones.“There is only one chance to save them,” Shallan said. “And that is to change.”“Change,” Pattern whispered for the ship.“If you change, they might escape the evil men who kill,” Shallan whispered. “It is uncertain, butthey will have a chance to swim. To do something. You can do them a last service, Wind’s Pleasure .Change for them.”Silence.“I . . .”Another light vanished.“I will change.” So I will leave a vote for the Wind Pleasure. May she be remembered fondly... 25
Popular Post deadlyDomino Posted March 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2014 Bridge Four. Blocker of arrows, transporter of armies, and gurney for the wounded. Plus it's damnation stylish, for a bridge. 25
Swimmingly he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Shallan's satchel springs to mind, though I don't know if it's my favourite. But it's waterproof, survived a pirate attack, being dragged off by a santhid, days of wandering, and a highstorm. It's basically Shallan's way of controlling her magic. 4
Fifth of Daybreak he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm going to have to go with Jasnah's false soulcaster. The whole true lie dynamic with Pattern intrigued me, and that's exactly what the soulcaster is. I think it might be what drew Shallan to her (other than to steal) because she subliminally recognized the truth and the lie in it, being a dormant lightweaver.
Elena she/her Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Why, Renarin's glasses obviously. They are single-handedly responsible for the insane amount of fan the guy gets, make him look smart and nerdy, and their sudden disappearance is obvious signal that something is changing about Renaring - since simple moodiness is something you tend to ignore, when you're used to Kaladin. 3
PudgyNinja Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 clod He may be dead, but he's definitely not inanimate. 1
Meerletalis Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Wind's Pleasure, though Stick came in a close second. 2
Moogle Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The Diagram. I find the pseudo-religious theme to the book hilarious - Book of the Second Desk Drawer is this a combination of serious and silly that tickled at me every time I saw the epigraphs for it. It's a book designed to save humanity - what's not to like? (Besides the obvious...) 16
18th Shard he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Shardplate (You only said Shardblades don't count) 1
Luke.spence Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Kaladin's boots were my favorite inanimate object right after Sticky (yes, I named stick). 3
duladen he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I had to do a google search to make sure I understood 'inanimate' correctly, and this still seems debatable, but... I would say Rysn's plant. Mainly because of her internal monologue and the glimpse at how uncomfortable most Rosharans would be on our world. 7
+rhaiynebow Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Lots n lots of stuff I agree with most items named here, but my top three in order are: 1. Stick - This whole conversation/situation was THE BEST 2. Winds Pleasure 3. Boots
GreyPilgrim he/him Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Does Nightblood count? Otherwise, I will go Hoid's flute. 2
Seloun Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Tvlakv's (now Shallan's, or abandoned) wagon. It carried both Kaladin and Shallan to the Shattered Plains and is currently somewhere in the wilderness, unaccounted for; I predict Szeth will somehow have to use the wagon for something (maybe protection from a storm) in Book 3. 8
Observer Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Szeth's white robes. They are a symbol of danger, power, and the unstoppable force. The Parshendi likely had no idea the kind of image they were instilling in the minds of the Alethi when the had him wear white. It's the symbol of deadliness incarnate. 4
IllNsickly he/him Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I actually think that rocks are a valid object for this. I think Tien was REALLY on to something. 5
EmanEmal he/him Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) I actually think that rocks are a valid object for this. I think Tien was REALLY on to something. you could choose a rock, Tien's rock or even a certain group of them like Tien's rock collection of rocks or Dalinar's metaphorical pile of rocks but you can't just say rocks because rocks are a kind of thing which is different from a thing but I was just picking rocks as an arbitrary kind of thing, as an example and such. I'm not like anti rock or anything though rock wouldn't count though... because he's a horn eater and stuff I would also like to mention the role that lift uses to power up after she gets caught as one of my favorites(Behind the knife of course) Because it was awesome Edited March 27, 2014 by EmanEmal 3
-Deleted- Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Does Nightblood count? Otherwise, I will go Hoid's flute. I second that. Especially since we'll be seeing a lot more of Nightblood than I ever expected lol. That honestly caught me way off guard at the end. But yeah, if Nightblood doesn't count, then definitely the flute. Or, to shake things up a bit: The Diagram. That is tied with the flute for first if we don't count Nightblood. Edited March 27, 2014 by SebastianWeitzeil=Lord Jim 1
IllNsickly he/him Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Fair enough EmanEmal.. I choose only the rocks that cause Szeth to feel profane whilst walking upon.. 1
Observer Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 The Way of Kings anybody? It's responsible for like, 45% of Dalinar's transformation into the man he is now. 10
