[OB] Which death took you most by surprise?
deadlyDomino replied to dantlee's topic in Stormlight Archive
Eshonai's death definitely shocked me the most, because I had the (probably misremembered) idea in my head that there was a WoB on book 4 or 5 having Eshonai as the flashback character. Can't find it now though -
I actually find this theory very compelling; even if it only gives someone a temporary feruchemical benefit, WoB says that invested powers are caused by holes being torn in the spiritweb, and the more investiture you draw, the wider the rip gets and the better you are wih said power (as happens with allomantic savants). Maybe Hemalurgic acupuncture could expend a significant amount of Feruchemical investiture via needle (e.g. a month's worth of sight) in order to tear the hole for the investee and let them access that aspect of ruin/preservation/harmony themselves? Not to sure on the process described, though that doesn't particularly matter. I get the gut feeling that storing the idenity away from your needle and making it identity neutral first might be crucial to the process. (using mobile atm, i'll try and quote WoB later)

So if i understand correctly, the Julia set is chaotic in contrast to the Fatou set, which is ordered. ...is there any chance that one of the other landmasses/planets/Shadesmar locations in the Cosmere corresponds to a Fatou set, thus indicating it to be either diametrically opposed or linked to Roshar? And just when i thought I'd STOPPED going mad over this problem.

Stick.

Pretty sure Kaladin HAS to get over his light eyes prejudice pretty damnation soon, seeing as his third ideal requires him to protect them, plus the fact he is a lighteyes now. Also Adolin has replaced Moash as his best buddy Kaladin's free to play the field.

A Fabrial that has the same effect as burning brass/zinc? Such a thing has been referenced in the Ars Arcanum iirc.

I'm pretty sure Cusicesh is more than just a quirky normal spren; it's huge, it's one of three unique spren we know of (excluding the unmade, which we really have not enough info on) and Brandon gives it a whole interlude. Cusicesh could well just be an example of super spren, instead of the third and final one, but it's definitely not a normal spren.

I think grey/colour drainage meaning lack of investiture is absolutely correct, but it's a moot point because we got about two pages of Szeth after he died, wih no mention of appearance. Although i am now REALLY curious about a lifeless inhaling stormlight/being bequeathed extra breath/ drawing investiture from Feruchemical nicrosil they stored during their lifetime.

I stand thoroughly corrected.

SPOILERS! Could Kal do what Taln(?) did at the end of WOR

I thought the Lastclap was only possible because of the weight of the blade made it less momentous, not the speed. But that's not really important. -
Syl: "But I've helped men kill before."
deadlyDomino replied to aheerema's topic in Stormlight Archive
The fact that she "helped" could be indicative of actually being shardbladey. Or not. Either way, every shardblade is a dead spren, and pattern says thousands died, yet tWoK claims there are nowhere near that many blades ( that we know of). Maybe another way for spren to die? Good spot though, I'd love to see where this goes. -
To the best of my knowledge, Renarin had the blood weakness before age 6- hence the no training thing. It just seems a little unlikely that he bonded glys that young, although the bond probably did cure his thing once he got it.
-
Nightblood demonstratably doesn't force anyone to its purpose unless they're weak-willed; Szeth, having committed atrocities that he finds detestable simply to keep his oath of servitude, is not weak-willed. Nin knew this, and it was why he chose Szeth to be a Skybreaker- because he knows he can handle Nightblood.
-
Renarin DID have a "blood weakness" (probably epilepsy) since childhood. It's why he didn't start training at age 6 like Adolin did, and why Dalinar wanted him to pursue scholarship in the Ardentia.

SPOILERS! Could Kal do what Taln(?) did at the end of WOR
deadlyDomino replied to Tranquil's topic in Stormlight Archive
Where does it say Taln was a worldhopper? I'd always suspected world hopping heralds, but I can't recall any concrete evidence in the books, or I missed the WoB -
We haven't yet seen an order with more than one Radiant on present day Roshar, so maybe Szeth will be the only Skybreaker. That said, Nightblood instead of a spren is highly suspect, plus all the theories that Nalan isn't actually Nalan, or the theories that all the heralds are varying degrees of insane. Either way, if there was a real Nahel Skybreaker around, I'm sure there would have been some indication of it. To the best ofmy understanding, you don't just get told to be a Skybreaker and then become one.

Thinking about the Unmade, would it be difficult to bond them simply because they're so dangerous and murdery, and probably willing to kill you on a whim? Or would it be because, rather than being honourable to get an Honourspren, you'd have to be an evil psycho to get Re-Shepir. I wish we had WoB for this, or book 3.
-
If anyone can provide quotes for this, I'd be most grateful; IIRC, WoB states that Clod from Warbreaker was Arsteel (or Yesteel, idk), retained his swordsmanship, was in a relationship with Jewels, and a lifeless character was going to get a viewpoint novel. Plus, throughout Warbreaker, Vivenna keeps noticing hints of humanity in Clod. Combine all that with stormlight, and I think Szeth's could be a fully functional lifeless. Plus lifeless bodies are grey, which is similar to a sharebladed limb. Hm.

We know the unmade are god-spren, like nightwatcher and stormfather, but the fact there's at least 5 of them just from odium, plus the certain existence of other giant (possibly godly) spren, indicates that it doesn't have to be an Odium bondsmith. Either Honour or cultivation have more than one god spren. Maybe.
-
Bugger, hadn't seen that. And here I thought I was being clever. There's definitely multiple Unmade though, right? So why only bond one of them?
-
The one generating the Thrill is Moelag (sic), who is probably one of the Unmade. They're a whole different kettle of theories and fish. Personally, I'm not convinced that the third bondsmith spren will be Odium's - it wouldn't make any sense for Odium to give any power to his enemies, plus he's not actually on Roshar like Honour and Cultivation are, he's on Braize. My own crackpot theory is that there's a fourth shard involved. Possibly the survival share masking it's power behind two other shards? Also cusicesh just seems cool and I want to see more of it.
-
That would make me feel a lot better about szeth's resurrection - if he's Lifeless it feels a lot less cheap and adds a whole new dimension to his story. Although whether a lifeless can surgebind is an open question

Bridge Four. Blocker of arrows, transporter of armies, and gurney for the wounded. Plus it's damnation stylish, for a bridge.
