In the mountains far away, Sequence's cabin was quiet. Spoiler "There." Aelinor said, securing the new dressing around Sequence's midsection. Sequence sighed, wincing slightly as she relaxed in her rocking chair and let her tunic back down. Aelinor stood up and turned to leave, but Sequence leaned forward and took her hand. Aelinor paused, looking back. "Thank you," Sequence said softly. "Thank you for everything. I know that..." Sequence winced again, holding her hands in her lap. "I know that I'm not a very good..." She wanted to say mother. But she was not Aelinor's mother, not if Aelinor hated that fact so much. "... I'm just sorry. For being sickly all your life. And making you feel like a nurse, and a servant, and- ... a replacement." Sequence winced again. "Because you aren't. I know you don't believe me, and... That's okay. But I hope one day you'll forgive me." Aelinor's expression didn't change, but there was a flicker of... Something in her eyes. She pulled over a stool and sat beside Sequence with a soft sigh. "... After Ivisyre is gone, I'll help you build that garden." Sequence's eyes widened, and she blinked at Aelinor for a moment. Aelinor just nodded. A smile began to tug at Sequence's lips, when suddenly, There was a knock at the door. Sequence and Aelinor both looked up, sharing a glance between each other. "Come in!" Sequence said, somewhat tentatively. The door swung open silently, and in strode Ivisyre. Sequence immediately grew pale and Aelinor growled, standing up and drawing her sword from its sheath, which earned a scoff from Ivisyre. "Is that any way to greet guests?" They asked as they brushed off their long coat. Aelinor positioned herself in between Ivisyre and Sequence, who was shakily rising to her feet. "You're here to kill me. They warned me." Sequence said softly. "...Why? Why continue to care?" Ivisyre's smile vanished. "Is it really so hard to understand? Surely Aelinor here gets it, don't you?" They directed their gaze to Aelinor, who stood stone faced and white-knuckled, gripping her sword in both hands. "You understand that Sequence isn't the saint she pretends to be. You understand that she-" Ivisyre was cut off as Aelinor lunged for them. Their eyes widened a bit as they quickly parried with an inert Inversion. Aelinor was relentless, pushing forward and swinging again. Ivisyre rolled their eyes, and power flowed into Inversion. Sequence cried out, reaching for Aelinor as her blade met with Inversion, and there was a sudden crack. Aelinor was flung back a step, stumbling and falling and cradling her hands. They were shattered and mangled and bleeding as the dust that had formerly been her sword floated to the ground. Aelinor stared at it with a hollow expression of shock as Sequence quickly dropped to her knees beside Aelinor and pulling her close, looking down at Aelinor's hands. "Stop!" she cried, as loud as she could as Ivisyre took a step closer. Sequence gently laid Aelinor down on the wooden floor, stifling a sob as she shakily got to her feet to face Ivisyre. "You know that you won't win." Ivisyre said plainly. "That's why you gathered your friends to save you." Sequence gritted her teeth, summoning her Narrationblade in the form of a simple staff, with a bright lantern at the top held in place by curling vines and roots. Ivisyre didn't seem phased by its soft light. "What do you want?" Sequence asked shakily. "Is it truly just revenge? Or something else?" Ivisyre considered for a moment, their posture casual and relaxed compared to Sequence's shaky yet competent fighting stance. "Revenge, yes, but... I suppose I would also like power, as anybody does." Ivisyre's eyes met Sequence's. "I want to be a Narrator. I want your power." Sequence grew paler, her trembling getting worse. "It's yours, just don't hurt-" She shrieked in sudden agony, her Narrationblade melting into the floor as she dropped to her knees. A faint iridescent mist flowed from Sequence's eyes, and was sucked towards the small bronze orb that Ivisyre now held before them. Sequence looked up, stunned. "Wh-What- ... I- ... I didn't give you my terms! I- I didn't-" She exclaimed, wrapping her arms around herself as she was overcome with a very wrong feeling of emptiness. Ivisyre smiled, tucking the orb into their cloak. "'It's yours', you said. That's all that was needed." They knelt down before Sequence, grabbing her chin and forcing her to look up. "But..." Ivisyre said, grinning as Sequence pulled away weakly. "I will make it a little fair. Just a bit. You, Aelinor, and all your little friends down at your lake will leave my world, and I will spare you all." Their grin widened. "I'm also going to offer a challenge to your friends." Sequence looked up, eyes wide and mouth open to argue. "If they can defeat me in combat," they said, cutting her off. "I will return your power to you, and then I will die. But, I'd highly advise that you convince them to leave with their lives, and beg that they take you with them." Ivisyre suddenly grabbed Sequence's arm, hauling her to her feet before sending a brutal punch directly into her wounded side. Sequence's vision flashed white and she shrieked again, her knees going out beneath her. Ivisyre held tight to her arm, not letting her fall. "Let's go meet everybody, shall we?" Ryver, Cadewyn, Eepy, and Unintelligible all heard a soft thump and a stifled cry from the deck behind them. There, Ivisyre stood, with a softly crying Sequence curled at their feet. Sequence looked... Worse than usual. And there was a sort of... strange air about her. She no longer radiated power and ability, and one in her presence would describe her as very... mortal. Ivisyre casually sat down in an armchair on the deck, twirling the bronze orb in their hand. "Hello." They said conversationally. "I come with news, and an offer."
