Ryna’s posture softened slightly, though she stayed on edge. She studied the shimmering figure carefully, her golden eye steady.

“I see,” she said slowly. “Curiosity is dangerous… but sometimes necessary.”

She leaned back just a little, keeping a safe distance. “I’m Ryna. A Chronicler. I record and observe. That’s all you need to know for now.”

Her gaze flicked toward the window, then back to the girl. “And you…?”

Ryna shifted on the bed, settling more comfortably as she studied Aspen with growing curiosity. “I'm a Chronicler. I record the knowledge, memories, and events of the world. I have read about nymphs” she said, her voice calm but thoughtful. “But, I don’t often meet nymphs or other magical beings. It’s not something I usually encounter.”

She gestured gently toward the little cascade of flowers drifting from Aspen’s hand. “How does it work, being a nymph? Do you just… exist like this? Or is it tied to the forest somehow? I want to understand—it’s not often I get the chance to learn about something like you.”

"well im tied to a tree. But with the help of evaiya." She holds up a necklace with a golden leaf. "This is now what im tied to." She holds it close. "If this gets broken fully. Like incinerated. Then I die. But its coated in gold and special material making it fire and water proof. You can chuck it in lava and it would be fine." She sets it back down hanging off her neck. "I also cant stray to far from it otherwise my powers and lifeforce fail."

Tbf only half of them were because of him.

The street collapses, replaced by a city wall. Guards stand on top, watching over the open field in front of the wall. Suddenly, a blur barely visible by the wall shifts. In the shadow of the wall, out of sight of the guards, the same boy appears, several years older. A blur flickers around his head, and the guards atop the wall slump down. Then the image flickers, and they seem to be standing there like they were. The figure walks to a door in the wall, and a guard inside opens it. He, too, instantly collapses, but this time he just vanishes. The boy reaches down, apparently grabs nothing, and hauls it inside the door.

Ryna listened intently, her eyes following the glint of the golden leaf as Aspen spoke. She stayed quiet for a moment after, as though weighing the weight of the words.

“That’s… both beautiful and terrifying,” she said finally. “To have your life bound up in something so small. Strong, maybe, but still fragile compared to you.”

She leaned forward slightly, tone softer. “And Evaiya protects it? Protects you?”

Her gaze flicked to the necklace again, but this time with respect rather than scrutiny. “That’s a heavy kind of trust. Why?”
