He couldn’t even see the warehouse anymore. He was sure it was there, a little speck, but he didn’t bother to search for it. He didn’t want to find it, anyway. 

Tam felt weirdly peaceful.

Her chest still ached and she felt like she was going to cry, but . . . something about telling Bat that . . . it was like a huge weight had been lifted off her chest.

Maybe . . . maybe trusting other people wasn't such a bad thing, after all. Maybe she could learn how to talk with them and work through whatever she was dealing with.

A flicker of hope sparked to life somewhere inside her.

Thank you, she whispered.

I never felt like I could really trust anyone except Shoe for a long time . . . and then he was gone for so long and with . . . my situation and everything, I kinda learned that I couldn't trust anyone but myself, y'know? She cracked one eye open and looked out at the stars.

They were still beautiful, she couldn't deny that, but . . . they seemed less impressive, somehow.

"According to them, I'm dangerous." he laughed. "Not that they're wrong though. They think I'm endangering the Thread. At least that's what they say. They really just want to control me. Make me a weapon. Or kill me. He knows I'll stop at nothing to kill them all."
