Ennalee blinked, pausing. Pulling out a small black notebook she began to scribble furiously. "My apologies," she said, continuing to write. "I have never encountered someone with your particular... abilities before. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how to use my own." Snapping the notebook shut, Ennalee gave 9/10 a smile, nodding to him respectfully. Something tugged at her mind faintly, but she shoved it aside, instead deciding to learn as much as she could to add to the resistance against the Witherlord.

She gets glimmers like these ideas that she's in the Thread, but tends to disregard them, instead trusting logic.

That’s a really cool way of doing that. Is she a Narrator or Enuller by chance? (Since true luxsprites no longer exist and withergeists USUALLY aren’t as coherent as Ennalee is.

9/10 shrugged. “Don’t worry about it.” He closed his eyes, seeming to listen to inaudible music of some time. “Don’t mind me, just trying to discern your alignment. Mine’s ordered light, as of recently.”

Thanks! I think I'm going to make her a Narrator, though I'm still not completely sure what that is.

Ennalee tilted her head slightly. "Discerning my alignment? And that is...?" She once again pulled out the black notebook, embarrassed at her lack of knowledge. She frantically flipped through her entries, searching for something that would give her answers, but when she found nothing, she glanced up at 9/10 sheepishly, waiting for his reply.

Sorry, I tried looking through the blog, but I'm still not quite sure how everything goes. Thankfully the conversation goes well with Enna's personality and her 'I need to know everything' ness.

“Hard to tell. I’ve been told that usually people have some sort of idea what their alignment is, at least subconsciously. In all likelihood, you’re either neutral or chaotic light, like most thread-dwellers. Do you have any abilities you know of?”

Narrators basically can do anything, within the boundaries of what is plot appropriate. They think of it and it happens. Their substance is prismite. This is countered by Enullers, who suppress Narration and many other powers, and their substance is Nullite. Chaotic Light vs Ordered Darkness. Withergeists are chaotic dark, they are mostly mindless and destroy or kill with a touch. Mordite. Witherlord. Luxsprites used to exist by reinforcing narrative boundaries and countering withergeists, but they dont seem to exist anymore.

John blinked. “I… well, you must express your desire to join the faith, of course. Then you must undergo the rite of reception to the catechumens. This is a period of-“

”No, not like that.” The figure interrupted harshly. He took a step towards John. “I want to know where it is. How do I travel there?”

John took an involuntary step back, deeply unnerved. You got all sorts of odd people in the church, of course, and a man made of dark flames was hardly the oddest being he’d shared the Truth with, but something about this man felt… evil.

The man’s eyes bored into John, who took another step backwards, back brushing against the wall of his office.

”Pity.” The Witherlord murmured. “I almost believe you. But my need for information is dire. I will not rely merely on my own intuition.”

Something cold wrapped around John’s legs, the priest looking down in horror to see dark tendrils creeping up his body. He struggled to run, but his legs were as if cast in stone.

”Let me ask one more time.” The Witherlord said calmly. “Where is Heaven? How can one get there? You will tell me, or there will be… consequences.”

Aelinor’s steps were naturally quiet, but she didn’t have a mind to be stealthy until she spotted the figure. She immediately crouched down and stepped closer to the foliage on the edge of the path, watching the figure closely through the bushes. This was an unfamiliar world, but according to Unintelligible, it belonged to… an Author, with… good intentions… this time? Agh, she couldn’t remember. She decided to just watch the figure for a moment. No use getting into any fights she can’t win.

The shifty fellow continued sneakily sneaking through the woods. On his back he carried a very large book. He seemed to be moving away from the place Sequence was buried.

A woman looked at the universe for the first time in a long time. She didn’t recognize much. She was an Author, she knew that. Maybe. The universe was different now. Perhaps an Author wasn’t what it once was. Perhaps it was something that once was made into something that now is, much like herself. A teenaged girl with hopes and dreams made into a woman who’d accomplished some and seen others slip through her fingers.

A warm feeling both soft and biting overwhelmed her, and she wondered if ghanderflaffles, Butt Venture, and Asneps still roamed free. Had they been forgotten? She hadn’t forgotten them, but hadn’t written of them for a long time. In realms of thought given life on digital paper, that was essentially the same thing. Maybe others had continued to write of them. Hopefully they had. Silly as they were, they’d brought a girl joy when joy was scarce. That was worth remembering.

She could see that some trouble with Heaven was afoot. This universe had surprisingly distinct cycles of humor and sincerity, and seemed to currently be in one of the latter. Butt Venture certainly wouldn’t have made it into Heaven. She was pretty sure Asneps was a menace too, but couldn’t quite recall. She was evil, wasn’t she? She was…

Oh. She didn’t remember.

That crack in her rose-tinted glasses left a jagged edge sharp enough to draw blood.

She decided to think of something simpler. Were pineapples still a common motif in this world? Those had been particularly funny. She wasn’t sure why, but she didn’t think anyone else had known why, either.

Pineapples, the woman thought to herself with a slight smile. For now, that was enough. Then she looked away.

Don’t mind me, just being nostalgic over here :P

Ghanderflaffles have been mostly forgotten, sadly. And Butt Venture hasn’t been around in forever. Although one of my characters is his nephew, so he’s not entirely lost.

Enullers don’t hard counter Narrators, although they are better at fighting them than most. Just as Luxsprites weren’t a hard counter to withergeists, as evidenced by the Witherlord killing them all in Dies Luxfrang.

Bob stood up and rubbed his head. "What had been that horrible pain?" he thought as he turned to examine his surroundings. He noticed the wind was floating a few feet in the air.

"You did it" Bob said, suddenly excited. "Do you feel more like yourself?" he asked.

This little creature could not prevent the inevitable death, but it could act sooner. Instead of a tear, it could offer a small slide into the next place.

Ennalee looked at him, debating silently. Finally, she went with her gut instinct and decided to trust him. "There is one that I know of," she whispered, narrowing her eyes and clenching her hands into fists. She took on a faint golden color, almost like a glow.

The air next to her warped faintly, and a few shapes and colors started to form. After a few moments, the look of a figure began to appear. It looked like... Ennalee herself.

It began to solidify before Ennalee let out a shout, and it dissolved, disappearing.

"Sorry," she apologized, blushing fiercely. "I don't quite know how to control it. I don't really know what it is, for that matter." Jotting down a few notes in her notebook, she glanced at 9/10, then asked, "Do you know what it is? And how I can control it?"

Yeah, definitely making her a Narrator.

Also, substances are what they use to fuel the powers, yes? or are they something else?

9/10mmHB#2 blinks. This comes as a legitimate surprise. “Would you say… you’re more logos or pathos driven… ?” He murmurs. “You can control it, if your Author allows. Natural experience hones all talents. We call it plot armor.”

"Logos, obviously, though what is this you speak of an Author?" Ennalee scoffed. "There is no such thing." Something tugged again in the back of her mind, a whisper that she couldn't quite quiet.

You know the truth. It whispered. Quickly, she rebutted it, going to war with her own mind. Yes, I know the truth. The truth is in the Logic, and only that. Relying on anything else is foolish, as we have proven in the past.

Taking into consideration her altruism and analytic personality, she is likely Ordered Light aligned, even if she is a Narrator, 9/10 thought. Meaning any further experiments with creating luxite could benefit from her presence. She may even prove herself to be a candidate to finally take up Protagonist. “Oh, the gods of this world  are as petty as they are brilliant,” he said. “Such wonderful adversaries. No matter. If you wish to find your own way, I offer you good luck, and my blade if necessary.” And then he was gone, in a flash of light, leaving more questions than answers.

Ennalee froze, suddenly left on her own. "9/10?" She whispered softly, panicking internally. This was not according to the plan. Not that she had planned for him to show up in the first place...

No. She was better than this. She had been left before. It meant nothing.

Pulling her cloak tighter around herself, she determined she would need to find the resistance against the Witherlord. Where that was, however, she wasn't too sure.

Picking a random direction, she set off, hoping that there was a city in that direction that could tell her where to find them, if they did congregate.

And on the way to the resistance, she would learn to control this power, even if she still didn't know what it was or believe in the silly Authors that 9/10 had spoken of, saying that they would give her control over the power.

Father John shuddered in horror at the sight of the death ahead of him. Then, convulsively, he shook his head.

"It is not mine to choose the time of my death." He said quietly, but firmly. "Taking my life is wrong, no matter if it is done to prevent my suffering. I-"

Father John's voice was cut off suddenly as the darkness that had been slowly encasing him abruptly consumed him, slaying him in an instant.

"Take care." The Witherlord had a distant expression as he admonished the sphere. "I gave you leave to follow me, not to interfere with my plans."

The distant expression ended as the Witherlord cut a rift in reality, stepping back into the Void. "This information seeking has become irrelevant. My spies have finally reported back."

'Ordered Light' is not a character alignment. pointed out a voice in 9/10's head. Although those aligned with it are generally fans of reality existing, they are not necessarily good, altruistic, or analytical.

9/10 is looking at their potential for something. Character alignment includes neutral rows, and fundamental substances dont. It’s a shallow way of looking at it, but the first impression gives good potential for ordered light, though that’s not really possible at this time. Again, this is reinforcing these themes that 9/10 thinks he knows more than he actually does.

The Outlier walked down an empty street. It had been some time since he arrived, and his adversary hadn't arrived yet. Perhaps...
A portal appeared in front of him. From it, a man wearing a silver suit strolled from it.
The Outlier cursed. "Vlanis."
Vlanis smiled coldly. "Good evening, friend. Forgive me, but this is necessary."
The man pulled out a gun.
The Outlier glared. "Our Author will..."
Vlanis scoffed. "Our Author is too busy fighting over a Sandwich to care about you." He pulled the trigger.
The second the bullet hit the Outlier, he disappeared in a silent flash.

Vlanis looked around. Nothing.
He smiled. "Good. Now that's that, doing the impossible will be much easier."

I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

That’s interesting to think about, actually. The voice mused. Why is it that withergeists are the only paradigm with baked-in morality? I suppose their motives could be pure, but their actions are always forced towards the evil and corruptive. Narrators are allowed to be good or evil, as are Ennullers. From what fragments we have, it seems likely that Luxsprites also were allowed to hold different moralities. But withergeists cannot. It makes one think, does it not? Perhaps in an unreality formed by Ennullers, Narrators would be the evil ones. A Doylist explanation would be that someone needs to be villainous, and dark forces of evil fill that role. But the Watsonian explanation is an intriguing conundrum.

A neon sign buzzed nearby as it flickered, proudly proclaiming the name of a convenient nearby cafe: A Latte coffee.

There didn’t seem to be many people inside, but an ‘oen’ sign (the p had gone out long ago) was set beside the glass door.

That’s what I did, it was awkward at the start and the characters were very different than how they are now but it will work itself out

new characters are usually flexible

I’m a baptist as well, although Priest John was intended to be Catholic. Sadly i dont get to have the Witherlrod run through all the denominations searching for one that knows how to locate Heaven (the place) within the thread.
