she smiles "id like that" she stands up holding his hand.

He nods. “Let’s go,” he repeats.

Suddenly, to their right, a figure steps out of the wall. A figure of flame. “Hello. I’m sorry to bother you too much… but I know where the Slumber is. You’ll have to be quick - there are others arriving at that time. You just need to take my hand.”

Their vision flashes, showing a river of flame before emerging in a dark castle.

The figure reappeared. “The inhabitants here won’t hurt you - except the Slumber. Let me help you with that.”

They both started to glow.

She grins, and pushes forward. Rebus’ armor is disabled, and she steps forwards.

And falters.

A light appears, and the Scribe walks out. “I am sorry. Aeon has broken my rules. Consider this battle forfeit.”

He kneels, and Aeon dissapears.

“I win.” Rebus smiled in triumph, the smallest bit of sorrow in his eyes. “As promised, I shall prevent Parasite from abuse. Shall you fade from existence, or am I to kill you? I shall miss you, I think. We were friends, once.”

erryin steps forward. "Your not doing either of those! and as for a fact i dont remember how you make deals." They clenches their fists. "Listen! I will NOT let you hurt them!!"

Spoiler

“It is too late, unfortunately,” Rebus said. “The Scribe has forfeit, choosing honor over life. I commend him for that.”
He refocused, his smile flickering melancholy for a moment. “I make deals with others, and I am not limited merely to the physical. I could shield Atlas from the emotional pain, claiming it for my own use.”

Yeah, she’s still messing with you, but with far more melancholy. Oh, none of them are defeated yet… one is serving you until just before the doors, one is having fun with a challenge.

The phantoms screamed and Axzi struggled out a few words.

Strike now. Defeat them all…

He then seemed to lose focus, muttering. The only words Rebus could make out were Brother… WHY?

I wonder what the Horror of Mischief regrets… And what tricks the two still have up their sleeves.
Rebus seemed to explode, spikes of utility fog erupting from the air and skewering the phantoms. Rebus held the tiny crystal of Mordite in reserve, waiting to see if the phantoms would die.

Eventually, Lezterp left working on the machine again, and turned it on while it was gone. It looked like it would be a while before he got back.

Very subtle. Rebus thought, directing the nanomachines to fully examine the machine. He supposed he had not taken any hint less overt.

It seemed to be a machine that would... slowly corrupt the world around it.

And Theoretically, a Rebus would not want to make an Author angry.

Rebus blinked, having expected something quite different. He filed the design away, and had almost all the nanomachines there self destruct. Almost all.
As for Authors, Rebus wanted them a little angry, but not too much. He was Antagonist, after all.

Should this still be spoilered, do you think?
Rebus smiled. “Do you wish for me to talk to her? As for your deal, what do you wish to offer?”

Ooh good question. I’m gonna say it regrets not being good enough to annoy you yet.

After nearly two thirds of their number had been defeated, they began to flee, hoping to survive by virtue of speed. The sorrow was fast fading away.

Let none escape

Rebus saw the sprite try to untie his shoes, and she seemed to get increasingly perplexed by her inability to mess with him.

(Honestly I doubt Rebus has shoelaces lol)

Lezterp returned and expected the machine and the surroundings. He looked pleased by the result.

I want to see what it tries, honestly - somehow it is growing on me.
Rebus’s utility fog locked together into a sort of bubble, then expanded, causing a tremendous inrush of wind through the one opening. Any phantoms that escaped were picked off by more spears of utility fog, or laser beams they fired when even the range they had was exceeded.
Rebus’s futuristic boots briefly loosened, but locked back together after a mere moment.

It was a bet - if Rebus lost the duel, he would have to give up Antagonist.
I shall note your pleading influenced me, Erryin.

Nope. I thought it was a portal to BftS.

"while that is technically correct. None of my character have stood agsinst you. And for a reason I have no connections to them. My author knowing who you are would not have them hurt you regardless. So hence my condition is applicable. Also pardon my wording. My author is trying to be all formal but has no clue how."

Rebus chuckled. “The formality is both well put together and unnecessary. I can make the price be harmful neither primarily or secondarily - to have it be neither harm nor something that would directly cause harm.”

“There are four things I require - a piece of paper, written in gibberish and in Bacon’s possession; knowledge of its meaning, past what I already know; a weapon, of which Antagonist may be; and the assistance of an Author. I want you to find me one of these things, and confirm it will be of use.”
