she tensed. "So when do we go back?!" She shouts over the wind

Ah.
Rebus had his nanomachines consume the meteor, then dissipate into a cloud. Meanwhile, he began manipulating the air around him, forming a vacuum then making it larger and larger.

It was warm within whatever it was Whan did, but otherwise it seemed the same as the outside. The bird, for obvious reasons, could not see.

She shook her head, frowning. "Sorry. I've been distracted. My Author . . . he works in mysterious ways."

She moved a bit ahead, jumping onto a storage crate and flourishing her arms dramatically. "I've been lying. I'm not a Narrator. I never was. I'm my Author's . . . I'm his Avatar."

Somewhere far away, Atreides appeared to Rebus, dressed in a fur cloak. "I've reconsidered!"

“You are the one who shall act at the moment. That man there is listening to music using the public utility fog network. I have access to that - most people can’t access or hear other’s music unless that person wants them to - and I know that the next song is one he’s danced frequently in private or with friends. If the people around him happen to seem friendly, he might do a little dancing on his own. That person there is a dance instructor and has just decided to drink a little extra coffee this morning - if they’re nearby, they’re feeling energetic enough that that would join in. That guy there is bored and looking for something to do - his soccer game fell apart because a few people decided not to come. There are more people around, who’ll dance because it’s something to do, because everyone else is doing it, because they want to show off their moves, or because they want to try without magic what you are about to do.” Rebus smiled. “None of these people would dance unprompted. It’s the combination of people and factors that might do this; feedback loops that you now can tweak as you see fit. A Narrator could write a flash mob into being - you can now bring one about naturally, simply by tweaking the many factors that go into timing and amplifying the effect people have on each other’s willingness to do something.”

“Excellent.” Rebus grinned. “I knew from when I first heard of you that you showed promise as a leader.”

Whan shivered, the cloud of blackness they caused expanding. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds scary.”

Rebus would have joined in, but he was too worried about Symbol and what Fate would request of him.
Unable to find his compass, Bat pulled out the teleporter from Rebus. “I’ll come back, once I find her - don’t worry.” Then he disappeared, beginning his unknowingly futile search.

If Rebus had his way, you’d be fully working for him at this point - this will likely not occur. Have fun, by the way.
Rebus smiled. “That is a talent I can use… Tell you what - if you bring me any papers you find with somehow incomprehensible writing, I’ll pay you with one or more favors totaling to the approximate amount of effort you spent. You don’t have to bring me the original copy, as long as the writing is equivalent - if there is anything else you think I might be interested in, bring it and I shall work out payment with you.”

Taeidin frowns.

"Incomprehensible to whom?"

Rebus smiled. He had found one logical weakness - all he had to do now was implement it. As for the fireball, it hit the area of time-frozen air and immediately ceased to exist, having encountered temperatures logically at nearly absolute zero.

This should be a hint - I’m assuming you’re talking about the cloud of blackness or Whan, not the bird. The bird would be purple, but nobody would be able to tell.

Rebus nodded. “I’d considered that. That was my role, in the beginning.”
Rebus chose a planet he was terraforming into nanomachines - his turf, nearly free of potential collateral damage. “That is excellent, though I’m sure you’d understand a change in my offer given the possibility of further ‘consideration’. I will hear you out.”

“I’m searching for a ciphered text, but anything like ancient languages would likely also contain interesting information.” He grinned briefly. “You or your companions being unable to read it would be a good benchmark - if it does turn out to be useful to you I can give the translation back.”

Actually, the air wasn’t time frozen. It just didn’t move at your call.

Not really. Just make a character, and you can either appear, or I can slip you into one of my plotlines if you wish. I need minions.

How serious of an rp is this, for character creation?

Not very—it depends on the plotline, but not particularly. One of my characters is a clueless Southern man who just lucks his way out of stuff and has a small bit of magic

K 👍

Sure, I’ll be ur minion, why not

Here’s my character

Spoiler

Renn:

Renn is a slightly short, lanky man, perhaps 20 or so, with dark brown hair. He has brown eyes has some skill with a knife. He always has one on his person, though sometimes it’s hard to tell where. He’s rather reserved, and doesn’t like to speak. He may not be the most friendly person, but he is loyal. Hopefully that can get him some money and he’ll finally be able to persue his dream of ranching Stoats. Yes, he likes stoats. He thinks they taste good, and for some reason thinks that’s a common opinion. How’s he to know? He doesn’t talk to people!

So, let’s get in, shall we?

Excellent! I'm assuming you're just, like, somewhere.

A semi-tall, blond man appears next to Renn. "Hello, good sir! My name is Asharak. I am in the process of setting up a teleportation network through the Thread in the service of our Lord Rebus, and I believe you may be able to help me. Now, I understand this may be a little big to comprehend. Do you have any questions before we continue?"

Renn had never heard of this “Thread”, let alone working teleportation. He’d seen his fair share of magic in his days, although unfortunately he was born without.

Had this man hit his head recently? He looked for signs of drunkenness, but found none.

“I… what?”

His voice was faintly accented, though unlike any this man had likely heard before. His people were little known. Little loved. Perhaps it was better that way.

“…What is a Rebus?”

I was, actually, talking about the bird. But thanks for the hint anyway :3

"Hmm."

She walked over and waved her hand through it.
