He brightened. “Really?”

Fall yelped and jumped backward when three new people appeared from nowhere. Lady Bug frowned at him, then waved a hand. The wood grew around his feet, trapping him, and when he yelled, no sound came out. He clutched his spear, looking terrified. 

She waved her hand again, and’s Beosta groaned. “Ow, my head… Shoe? What happened?”

She smiled and nodded.

"You always drive way too fast, though," she chuckled.

Beosta glared at Fall, who gave her an uncertain but stern guard face. She took Tam's hands and used her to stand up. The same feeling was present in her, though to a less powerful degree than Lady Bug's.

“Because they know about the Authors and think they’re more important than they are.” 
I don’t even know if Meat has a soul. Or if having it would be good for you, given he’s a living fever dream.

"It's five feet. What would be the point of a ten-foot billiard pole . . . ?" she asked with a smirk.

She  made a mental note to get a long range weapon after the spar, then slashed at the construct, assuming it was nearby.

"They know about... what?"

Nemesis decided to give up and then realized he'd left Keys behind and was stuck.

The construct was teleporting around them fairly unpredictably, then suddenly stopped and threw a wave of yellow at them, which disintegrated obstacles as it came. 
“I could have sworn Cricket told you about this…” 

Meat’s grin got wider, shining in the darkness. “Oh, seems I’m not lost after all…”
