It was the bird speaking.

“Yeah, like… like… like it’s alive.” He picked it up.

She took a nice, long shower.

-

He jumped.

. . . Hello?

-

Spoiler

. . . That's ominous.

Just now, kajsa said:

“My pleasure. Pull this if you need anything.” She gestured to a bell pull by the door.

She left.

He was still confused.

He set the pajamas down and laid on the floor.

. . .

Then he got up and laid in the bed-

He was a tree. He didn't sleep in beds! Or where whatever that lady had given him!

He sighed and tried to sleep.

“I stole her soul! I’ll release her once I get one of the other two!”

could you describe the arena again real quick?

Symbol tested the red one a little more, landed some good hits, and ran to engage a green one.

-

“How did you become this?”

-

“Oh— yes! Of course! Of course I do… yup. End goals, whee.”

“That seems of questionable legality. You’re under arrest? That’s what they say in the penny dreadfuls, at least.” Jack was clearly out of his depth, but managed to pull off a serious face.

Let’s see… round, bordered by white void, grey surfaces, black edges, white utility fog holding stuff up… lots of parkour stuff, like ramps, platforms, warped walls, a sectioned-off floor area that might be a trampoline, ropes from the ceiling, pits in the floor, hurdles, things to slide under… If Symbol tried certain gestures or verbal commands, she’d be able to make temporary structures as well.

The green construct turned, then leapt forward, launched by a telescoping pillar of utility fog. It soared through the air, putting its momentum behind its blade in a downward strike. Meanwhile, Rebus blocked a spear of utility fog with one of his own, then performed a similar trick to Symbol’s opponent, kicking off of a well-placed wall to end up behind a construct.

“Become this? I’m normal, basically - probably the closest to you. Rebus gave me some special forces training and the best enhancements he could without replacing anything, then basically told us we could do whatever as long as we’d fight against any truly Thread-ending threat. Does Cricket use portal cuts in your reality?”

“Somehow I’m not convinced… it won’t be quite this second, but I have a few immortals I wouldn’t mind no longer needing to worry about. Is souls all you harvest?”
Alright, see you tomorrow.

Do not attempt conversation. Uh… resistance is futile.

The voice sounded rather young.

“Maybe,” Lady Bug said, walking to examine the circlet. “Perhaps it’s just part of her power somehow…”

Thanks for the description! See you tomorrow 😁

Nemesis tilted his head, then looked up at the sky. “A rest?”

-

Symbol summoned Beginnings and parried, twisting behind and to the left. She pulled her sword from the parry and stabbed at the construct.

Do the constructs’ blades have cross guards or anything?
-

“And fire. I harvest fire too!”

She came out a while later, feeling very refreshed. And kinda hungry.

She went to check if there was any spaghetti left . . .

There wasn’t.

The ice cream was gone too.

Aden looked up from the tub of ice cream, looking guilty.

-

No, wait, shush! You’re not supposed to do that!

“If you’re really as smart as I am, you should speak up more.” She rolled another small glass sphere and frowned at the resulting metal one. “Why do you think it was encased like this?”

The next morning, the boys’ respective maids came to collect them for breakfast. They knocked on the doors of their bedrooms.

She smiled. “Are you ready?”

Luckily, he didn't have to do anything, because the maid led him straight to a chair.
