I hope so. He eyed Cricket. He seems inert right now…

A teensy, eager, childish voice said KISS HER WHILE HE’S NOT HERE.

Or maybe that was just him.

He sighed.

"Look . . . I'm sorry, but I really need your help."

-

She rolled her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder.

“I don’t wanna be stuffed,” she whispered. “Or burned, or electrified, or drowned, or… or turned mortal…”

-

He hugged her and decided to stop thinking stupid thoughts for a while. He had to at least pretend to be intelligent now.

If you want, my dedicated helpful exposition Elliot the drummer can show up and tell Cricket to go back if that would be helpful 😅

Y'all can just tell Tam that the Dreamsmith still wants to talk to Cricket

She can relay the message.

Cricket can't go back on his own without dying or at least risking death. But it's fine, I'll just have Omen pick him up again, angrily.

Omen appeared in front of Cricket, taking the shape of a skeleton with lines of blood leaking from its empty eye sockets. "There you are. Take my hand and return at once, or I shall banish you from the Dreamsmith's presence for good." He turned to Tam and Bat. "Terribly sorry to interrupt. This fool here just... well, it is no matter. If the Dreamsmith had not insisted, I would have left him here ignorant."

She rolled her eyes again.

You don't have to pretend anything with me, Bat. It's okay.

Tam waved.

Anxiety filled his chest.

"I won't be very pretty, then . . ."

-

I'm serious.

She hugged him gently.

She sighed and buried her face in his neck. She supposed she couldn't really blame him.

“She can stay on the train. It’s well hidden,” Twelve suggested, getting impatient.

Raven nodded agreeingly.

"I feel the need to help. Do you want to go, or do you want to stay?"

“One year?” She frowned. “Won’t take that long.”
