“Huh… I imagined the pineapples, I’m guessing.”

The bandit nodded his head vigorously, then stood and dashed out of the building as fast as he could.

Tam hugged Bat from behind, still invisible.

You did great! Honestly, I probably would've just arrested them.

-

"Um . . . yeah. Yeah. Probably."

Flint paused, then tilted his head. “You know, that’s very interesting, Cor. Can I call you Cor?”

Holt glared at him.

I think it will. Next?

"You're sure you're fine?"

He nodded and hugged her back. “Yes.”

“Yeah… besides the concussion that must be worse than I thought.”

Alright.

She released him and teleported them to the next bandit-

Although, the remaining four were all in one place, which was convenient. They were conversing quietly in the corner of another run-down building, though this was was darker than the last.

They hadn't noticed Bat yet.

You got this! Tam said encouragingly.

-

". . . Maybe a little."

She stood.

"Well . . . I should probably go check on Five- or something . . ."

“Okay. I’ll check the control room.”

The bandits heads' swiveled towards him instantly. They each pulled out weapons, ready to attack him.

"You again!" the biggest one -presumably the leader- cried. "How did you get in here!?"

I'm sure!

She nodded and left.

Were they in the control room? I don't remember 😂

He sheathed Illusion and held up his hands. “Wait! Wait. I’m just here to talk.”

One of the bandits shot at him with a pistol, barely missing before he quickly started to reload it.

WHOA! Okay . . . careful . . .

Irie walked back and looked for Five.

Holt stared at the thread.

So she could just . . . kill people, if she wanted to. Without hardly any effort at all.

Gosh, what had he gotten himself into?

The one Raven sent from the shed with Twelve

Bat jumped. You… you can Narrate me better. It’ll be fine.

He stepped closer, drawing his sword, which he clutched with both hands. “I don’t wanna hurt you guys.”

-

She was curled up in one of the seats, asleep.

“There is no station. There’s a tunnel under here that connects to the tracks.”

She growled. “No.”

“Eh, I don’t really care. Cor, I’m not actually alive.” The beam to his chest split into tinier threads, many of them. Each one connected to a bead in his necklaces or the studs in his ears. “Go ahead. Kill the people who power me. I’ll just find more.”

The fire pressed in.

I can . . . and I will, if I have to, but I'm not sure how much I should reasonably interfere . . .

"Makes it easier for us, then," said another one, aiming his own pistol.

Careful . . .

-

Irie smiled and sat nearby.

-

Holt hugged her tighter.

“I’m not alive. For which I’m grateful, now. I was a mere construct, somewhat similar to Utility, if you know of him.” He grinned. “I am all that remains of Corruption. And I am your nemesis.”

He paused. “Which I guess won’t be any fun if I don’t let you go this time. So…”

The flames dropped.

“Run, run, run,” he mocked, vanishing with a loud crack.

OH SNAP OKAY

Holt didn't stop to think about it. He just grabbed Corysande's hand and ran.

He picked up the panther cub on the way out.

-

. . . Oh, yeah! I remember that! If you're sure.

The bandit shot him again; hitting his arm, this time.

She smiled again and rested her head on the table in front of her.

The flames chased them the whole way, cackling with glee.

Bat stepped back with the force of the bullet, but indeed it had not pierced skin.

“I’m not here to fight. I just wanna talk, please.”
