"Just to talk."

She was perplexed. "You... You're lonely?"

She could relate to that.

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"Not particularity, no. Just bored."

"Do you... do you live here?"

The voice was quiet for a moment.

". . . Technically?"

"Can you see me?"

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

". . . Also technically."

"What... You're not human, are you?"

She was quiet. "...I should go."

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"Oh, you sure? I'm not going to hurt you or anything, if that's what you're worried about."

The rat shifted and muttered something in her ear. "I suppose I could keep talking. Are you... here right now?"

"Yes."

She looked around. "How come we can't see you?"

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"I'm right next to you. Just hidden."

"Why are you hiding?"

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

". . . Good question. I have no idea. It just feels better than being out in the open, I guess."

She nodded. "Especially in a place like this. Everything's so empty here."

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"Exactly. Why are you here, anyway?"

She hesitated."...I'm looking for something. Someone."

Just now, Through The Living Glass said:

"Oh? Who?"

"Well, not so much a person as a memory. Franz Cake. He was a police officer before... well, the plague. I need one of his belongings. It's... it's complicated. I can't really say much else unless I know who you are."

"Second floor of the police station. He has an office," she explained. "It's hidden. Before he died, he wanted to make sure no one got their hands on it. But it's not hidden well, or so I'm told. It should be somewhere in his office. Usually I just have Enrik sniff this kind of stuff out, but he's not... well, he's not great at conversation. It gets lonely."
