Him touching her made her nervous. But it also offered some kind of stability she didn’t quite understand, but liked. 

With his help, she followed Violet into the helicopter, never letting go of his hand. 

It was a bit of a rough process.

Pyk frowned, unsure what to say.

All he could think of, were the memories.

”Before all of…” he gestures to the stars, “I was… a simple soldier. Barely able to feed myself.”

A twinge of regret entered his voice.

”And do you know what intimidated me the most?”

”It was the dragons. For you see… they were unique. I’ve seen other dragons, but none like these.”

”There was one dragon in particular that scared me. Scared everyone, actually. The Scorched Monarch. This was the first firebreathing dragon I had ever seen, and its fire scalded its face, melting the skin and blinding it. But the fire… it was dangerous. So… very… dangerous…”

”I saw one of my friends - not Dint - melted alive in a pillar of liquid flame. Ever since then, I… I couldn’t stand to see fire.”

“And then we developed rockets. They would carry people to the stars, to other lands. And, at the time, they were primarily fueled by flame. I couldn’t watch them, and I refused to get on them. And then a colleague needed me. It was on another planet, and there was an outbreak of what you saw back there. So… I entered the rocket.”

”It did not magically make things better. I was still nervous. I was still on edge. And I was still seeing my friend’s face. But as I went on, it… lost its edge. The flame stopped reminding me of the one I lost, and started to remind me of all the peoples I met, all I was able to help, by use of the rockets.”

He smiled slightly. “I… I do not know what I am saying, exactly.”

she looks up at the sky and shivers, the memories of the long fall fresh as ever.
