Rebus nodded, similarly awed. "It is nigh-impossible. In the vision I mention, the two of us tried to make Balancium. The resulting explosion tore a hole to the Void." 

"Is it? My goal is to do interesting things and be remembered. I need to actually select an interesting, memorable thing to focus on, or I won't succeed."

Balitan looked at Rebus blankly. "Balancium? You mean an alloy of the fundamental substances? It's possible to make that?"

Malevolence tilted his head to the side. "I see. Picking the correct goal will be difficult. I would not recommend evil. Only great evil is remembered, and once you are defeated you will quickly be forgotten." He grinned. "Besides, once I have conquered, I will be the only evil one whose memory remains. Perhaps you should set a goal of opposing me. achieving even a modicum of success before your inevitable demise would certainly be a feat worth remembering."

"Is it really difficult to make characters? Do you... have a system, or something? Are only the best Narrators allowed to create characters? If so, I apologize for bringing up a sore point."

Rebus blinked. "It was at some point, but I think Lore may have invalidated the process. The aforementioned reality-rending explosion means that trying it in the real world is probably a bad idea. But if that isn't Balancium, what is it?" 

"That is helpful, though not particularly humble, advice." Rebus steepled his fingers, leaning back in his chair. "As you say, upon being defeated a villain is forgotten..."

"Better question, what didn't they do. They literally carved away parts of my body. Some of my bones are plated, muscles torn out and replaced, enhancements for some senses, they just dummy tested us"

"I don't know what they tried to do. I just know I was a science experiment, and that's part of the reason why I'm stronger than I should be. They didn't enhance it a lot, just enough so I could lift their things without issue"

"As near as I can tell, it is Prismite." Balitan tapped a few buttons on his controller, moving the Dream Crystal over next to the sphere.  "They have completely identical structure, aside from this sphere being orders of magnitude more dense than the crystal." The ever-shifting light of the crystal reflected dully off of the lifeless sphere. "But as you can see, it is... inactivated."

Rebus blinked again. "Oh. Interesting... That actually plays in to one of the axes I was trying to find - the Nullite used for those tattoos is typically inactive as well." He carefully cuts off the flow of power into him, in case inactivation is contagious. "Imagine if we could turn it on and off at will." 

Rebus chuckled. "Us both, defeated? I find that unlikely... and yes, defeated villains simply fade from relevance. I'd like to avoid such a fate."
