She pushed his arms away and kept working.

"Why can't you just leave me alone? I didn't asked to be saved. Now I'm visible. I don't like being visible" he groaned out, trying not to wince from the pain

"Well, even if you didn't want to be saved, there are people you could save, which is why we need you," she said, surprised that he was lucid enough to say all that.

"I'm not a savior. I'm a killer. Why else would I be in there? Career criminal over here." he said, knowing full well he was framed, but accepted his fate long ago

"They'll be fine- just hurry."

“Okay. Let’s go now, Tam.”

The girl regained consciousness, a jolt of panic running through her from the lights in the sky. She didn’t understand what this cloth was, either.

What was happening?

She nodded.

Being small . . . she really wanted to be small right now . . .

She gripped Bat's hand tightly.

-

"Whoa, whoa, hey, it's okay," Irie soothed.

"Remember me? From earlier? It's okay, you're safe now . . . we're going somewhere safe . . ."

“To be fair, we didn’t know anything about your backstory,” Aden informed him.

"Well, now you do. You still gonna keep me around? or throw me out to the wolves like everyone else in my life?" he asked, trying to sound as tough as possible

Unfortunately for him, to Irie it sounded more sad than tough.

"Keep you around, probably. Rehabilitation is likely."

Irie nodded at that.

"But you don't have to feel pressured to," she told Starlight.

"We won't force you."

"Maybe it was for you. Not here. they tried rehab on me. That trauma sent 4 doctors 6 feet down." he said with regret, knowing it was in self defense but he was still punished

She stared at her, then curled up on the seat and rubbed her arms.

Starlight looked away from Irie and down at himself. Eyeing the scars that covered his arms feeling the ones on his face, his legs, everywhere. The piece of him he will never lose. "Look, can I leave, or are you taking me back to your camp without option?" he asked, annoyed

Bat wrapped his arms around her.

The tiny crab pinched her slightly, not wanting to suffocate.

“Camp,” Aden informed him. “Look.”

He indicated a low concrete building rising out of the shrubbery— maybe half a story high.

She raised an eyebrow.

"Well, we are in a moving vehicle, and you still need serious medical attention . . . so by all means, just hop on out."

She leaned into him and buried her face in his shoulder.

Sorry . . . she whispered, ashamed.

Her hand opened a little to let the crab out.

-

"Ah, wonderful!"

The crab did NOT want to leave. It was KEEPING its Tam, even if it DIED in the process.

. . . Don't know . . . this is fine.

Well, Tam hoped it wouldn't die. It was scudding adorable.

She rolled her eyes.

"Doubt it. I just feel like I moved from one test facility to another, and if that's the case then do your worst. Those doctors already took everything from me."
