Just now, Halcyon The Only said:

"I... can't really think of anything else," he admitted. "I'd love to know other things, though."

He felt heavy, for some reason.

She shrugged.

"If you don't have anything to ask, I don't have anything to say."

"Uh... is she ever going to get better?" He whispered.
"Is it even... possible?"

"That depends on what happens to her. She has no set future- that would be a horrible thing for me to do to her."

"Of course it is. It . . . it won't be easy, though."

She raised a figurative eyebrow. "Trying to kill yourself didn't exactly help."

"I know," he snapped, then turned and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Sorry. I... I know."

HEY, I USED HER, LIKE, TWO-HUNDRED PAGES AGO :P

Her expression softened. "It's alright. I get it. And I'm sorry."

"Your Author did a wonderful job of solving the free will problem. I've been trying to figure it out for a long time. She phrased it well. I think . . . Tam will be happy with that solution, when she's ready to hear it."

She put a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey, it's not going to be nearly as hard as you expect. It still won't be easy, but just start by helping her to feel safe. Things will become more clear from there."

She thought for a moment.

"If there's anything I've learned as an Author here, it's that nothing turn out how you expect it to. Just do your best. I'm . . . I'm sorry you both have to go through this."

"Okay," he mumbled, then stepped toward the door.

An image flashed of someone he cared about in a headlock, a knife to their throat.

She smiled wider. "I said come inside."

"Inside where!?" He was starting to panic now.

background trauma for you to make use of: He burned a city to the ground and killed innocents to save his sister from an evil king, whom he burnned to a crisp before throwing off a tower. He accidentally burned his sister in that rescue, and won't forgive himself. Sister's name is Carys.

"Inside." She opened a door. "Come on."

"... Fine." He followed her through the door, hand on the hilt of his sword."

As soon as he stepped through the door, the floor began to smoke.

The woman didn't notice. She led him to the kitchen, where a lidded platter was. "Sit down."

3 minutes ago, Through The Living Glass said:

"Thank you. For caring for her when I couldn't. I've . . . I've been worried."

He nodded. "You're welcome."

He turned away, hugging himself. "I don't know if  I can," he whispered. "What if I mess it up, and she... never gets better, or....."

"Ah."

She smiled wanly.

"You won't. It would take a lot of effort to mess this up permanently, and she trusts you, even when you make mistakes."

"I don't see why," he muttered, and leaned back against the wall. "Besides existing and almost killing myself, I don't do much."
