Ahead of them, several figures made of rippling darkness came out of the undergrowth. Shades. They threw ropes over Perseus, and hedged the rest in with spears.

Moni stared at the spears in horror, freezing in place. Palsu drew his sword, looking all around them wildly. "Perseus!" He shouted. "What did you do to him you monsters?"
