They were indeed cooked, if still a little runny. They were also chopped a little smaller than usual.

It was probably a good thing Tam had slept through all that.

Bat left through the front door and strolled out through the quiet, shady woods. Birds chirped, squirrels scurried away, and… 

Nothing attacked him. Just a boy and his bird, walking in the woods. 

Man, technically. But he didn’t feel like a man. He felt less like one than he ever had.

He found a quiet area and sat down on a tree root. 

Then he let the thoughts tumble through his head. Yay Cricket beat Malan! Good good. Cricket would be happy now, right? And so Tam and Bat and Cricket would all be happy together… unless they didn’t want him around. He had to get back to something, anyway. 

Scud, he'd forgotten about Gaioh! Guilt swarmed him like bees, and he almost lifted his hand to swat them away. He didn’t know him very well, but Bat hoped he was okay. He better be okay. He couldn’t just abandon him like that. 

He stood up to go tell Tam and ask her to—

Aw, rax, Tam, he remembered. He collapsed again, dropping his head into his hands. He couldn’t confront Tam now, not after… what he thought he’d thought. He had to think about this rationally and think it through and think it away for good before it ruined anything. 

He took a deep breath. What else did he need to think about? Pulling out a pen and pad of paper, he started to jot things down.

He paused, tapping the pencil.

They did seem to be linked somehow, though… he added an arrow.

His pen hovered over the paper. Something told him not to write the next words. 

So he didn’t. He left the most important word unwritten. 

“Not at all. Feel free to inform me when you need more Nullite.”

Tam had an adorable bed head. Nothing too extreme.

She sighed. “I guess if we all get poisoned, Tam can fix us.” She eyed the dubious eggs for another minute or two, then took them off the heat and dumped some of them on a plate. The heat was obviously up way too high, and the bottom of the eggs were dotted with little bits of char.
