Moni rolled her sleeping bag over to Faunus. “Hey. Can’t sleep either?” She adjusted her pillow to be more comfortable. “What’s keeping you up?”

Faunus glanced over at Moni, raising an eyebrow as she watched the other woman roll over in her sleeping bag towards her. It was a very dignified display. “No, not really. Honestly, I don’t know what’s keeping me up.”

Cricket slammed a shield of Enuller energy between him and the blast, and teleported behind Malevolence, unsheathing his knifes and attacking him. When he had used his powers, the pain flared and he almost fainted, but kept it under control. This was not the right time for his powers to act up.

3 minutes ago, Through The Living Glass said:

She supposed she should be grateful to be alive.

"Thanks for- for coming to find me."

NOT AGAIN! NOTAGAINNOTAGAINNOTAGAIN!

The visor crumpled suddenly, no longer usable.

Tam stared at him, eyes wide and breathing heavily.

So he's like, an android?

Just now, Ookla the Irreplaceable said:

"Of course. I'll always be there to protect you. I made an oath, and I'll keep to it."

TAM! DON'T GET INVOLVED!  Cricket shouted. Let me handle this!

Pinned as he was, Malevolence could do little to dodge Cricket’s attack. “Hang on!” He shouted desperately. “Just wait one moment, we don’t have to kill each other! I have information about the one hunting you!”

Fear and anxiety shot through her, and she regarded Bat nervously.

"You . . . made an oath? I don't remember that . . ."

She didn't seem to hear him.

"I made it to myself, but it stands true. I will protect you."

It was too late to stop the knife, it dug into his back. "I don't trust you." Cricket whispered. "Drop your weapons, and then we can talk."

“Maybe you’re worried about the quest? I know I am.” Moni’s stared at the wall of the cave. “I just… don’t know if I’m going to be able to do it. Help Perseus, that is.”

Perseus awoke, he slept lightly. "What's that?" he said, rolling over sleepily. "I... heard my name..."

Malevolence dropped his pistol, and the metal arms detached and fell to the ground as well. “There, happy? I don’t have anything else on me besides a knife in my boot, and that is hardly any threat to you.” He laughed ruefully. “As you can see, I underestimated your abilities. That knife is, um, rather cold. What is it made of again?”

“Later,” he said. “When we have time… and when it’s not so fresh.” He was referring to the plant, not the knife.

She smiled gently at Moni, “It’s quite possible, who knows, maybe I am worried. But I don’t really know what’s going on, to be honest. I’m just here to help.” With a gentle sigh, Faunus rested back against the wall, no longer fully sitting up, but not completely lying down either.

Rax, he wished he could do something useful.

“Indeed.” Malevolence replied. “I was tasked with murdering Tam and Cricket by my new evil mentor. I suppose I could have been more inquisitive about your powers, but I need more practice adapting to the unexpected anyways, and I thought my precautions would be more than enough.

“Well I’m sorry for being cold towards you.” Moni whispered. “I don’t like Narrators, leftover trauma from Nameless I guess.”

Bat didn’t miss that he wasn’t named.

Actually, that was fair.

“I won’t let you kill them,” he informed Malevolence.

“It’s okay.” Faunus whispered back, “being cold towards me, I mean, not leftover trauma from Nameless. But I think I can understand, I myself having been too fond of half the Narrators I’ve met. They seem… almost frivolous, at times.”

Cricket smiled at her from behind Malevolence. Get some rest. You deserve it. We can deal with this. he said, gesturing towards Malevolence.

Never mind. Just... don't stress yourself out. After everything that's happened today, you should get a little sleep. So should he, he reflected. He was exhausted to the point where he could barely stand, and he still felt like he was being burned alive.
